Woohoo! Thanks!

P.S. Nice photo! I always wondered how those stickers were made so that the sticker decal peeled free from the backing. Who would have thought that the decals were laid out first with the remainder of the backing placed on afterwards.

It's coming together!

All,

If you have not signed up for the NEU/WDCU caravan to International down the east coast of the USA, time is starting to run out. As you may or may not know, we will be staying in local and state parks that fill fast early in the season with people that live local to them. If you are thinking about going or are planning on going and have not yet make your plans, I'd do so soon. We'd hate to see some of you that want to join us not be able too. Also, you don't have to do the whole caravan. Meet us along the way if you want to. It appears we will have many vintage units, some new and some vintage tow cars to boot!! If you have any questions feel free to contact me or Nancy Platt. Hope to see ya there!!

Rally fees paid!

We'll be joining you all at the Flying Circus... International Rally fees all paid and we've made our reservations along the Caravan Route...It'll be me, Zoe, Stanton (6), Bryce (4) and Baby Baker (about 1 month and name TBD) coming along. Yeah, I'm crazy! We are really looking forward to it!

I received it and "you have mail"!

This caravan is designed as an "express" caravan in the sense that it is shorter than the average caravan which typically runs 10 days. But this caravan is not an "express" caravan from the perspective of driving time -- we will not be taking the highway and driving as fast as we can to reach our next destination.

We plan to drive mostly on secondary roads as many of the caravan participants are driving vintage tow vehicles! Taking secondary roads has the advantage of seeing more sights along the way.

We've made it to Perry

Hey there y'all,

The Wagon Wheel Caravan made it into Perry on Monday night without incident. Thanks to Paul Waddell of the DC Unit for the scenic route plan, taking care to make sure that we had everything we needed and making us feel welcome. Side stops along the way included several Confederate museums, SC State House, a moonshine distillery, the NC Zoo, Montpelier, home of James Madison and a winery.

As we speak we are at the Fair Harbor CG in Perry, right around the corner from the fairground. The VAC had a Meet & Greet a short time ago and we are waiting for the WBCCI officials to come and check our registration prior to the parade into the fair tomorrow.

Weather was moderate along the way but has become quite hot in Georgia. The aftermarket a/c setup that we rigged up for the Bambi is working well, hope it holds out for the entire stay.

Melanie and I are looking forward to meeting up with the other NEU folks at Twin Oaks on Wednesday or Thursday. Hope all is well with the other caravan coming down from New England. Take care.

Some pics

Here's a couple of pics from day one of the caravan. The Travelall was the lead car (when it could keep up), Harley with dog Jo-Jo, John as Mr. Kit-Kat and Susan(Colin Hydes wife). On the first day it was a "Find your own fun" day. The hope was for everyone to take their time and have fun. Find some fun stuff and enjoy the trip. For me, it was about the trip not the destination. Some took in places where "MoonShine" was made, other had lunch in Lynchburg, VA. I tried to stay on old Rt.29 as much as possible. We found old diners to moonshine on that day. At the end, we all got to the campground next to the lake in Reidsville, NC. Had a dinner and campfire until way late that night. Colin had some trouble with his HW heater that became a steam furance. After about 20 minutes of steam, he got some hot water. I think we went through 20 bundles of wood that night on the fire and even more drinks. Lucky for us the heat was still many miles away. That we would find the next day.

Day two

Day two was the day to make the run from Reidsville, NC to Columbia, SC. Many of us stayed together that day. That was after the old 1968 Travelall giving the new car a jump. Harley left the key on and killed the batt. I think most wanted to take in the Zoo in NC. On the way into the Zoo, we found our own chance to go on the Capetown trip by finding elephants, after a few pics, into the zoo we went. Pete Daniel (WDCU 1stVP) and his kids had a great time at the zoo. I think looking back, the Colin of GSM had the most fun being pushed around in the kiddie kart. We knew we were on the right track when we saw the "Big things to come" sign. After the zoo trip, back on the road we went to Columbia. Along the way, Colins truck broke a belt, lucky for him/us he had an extra. After a quick stop at AutoZone to replace the spare belt, back on the road we went. Calling ahead to Al Owens, we had him get us some food for a quick dinner that night in Columbia, SC(thanks Al for the dinner). Everyone was pretty out of it by then, so it was early to bed. Good thing we had 30amp, the rains had come through and made it so thick you could cut it with a knife. The next morning we were in for the last leg of the trip which would end up giving us some of the best BBQ you will ever taste! And trust me, the only way to find the best food is to ask a local. You'll find out about that on the next post.
