We have been here since yesterday. The weather finally cleared this afternoon. There are about 70 Airstreams here, 20 of which are vintage. The people are great and we are having a good time. The RV park is really nice with great facilities.

Good Morning
Mid 40s at 7am. Yesterday afternoon was shirtsleeve weather and I put my awnings out to dry and put up our flags. The weekend is to be coler than normal, but no more rain.
Totally great potluck last evening, followed by a fun Airstream trivia game.
We have a number of vintage arrriving today. The vintage judging is this afternoon.
We have added something new: a "viewer's choice" award. We will hand out voting slips to visitors and they will vote for thrir favorite by site number. The judged awards will be handed out tonight while the "viewer's choice" award will be handed out Saturday night.
We had some well attended seminars yesterday, including mine. The disc brake seminar was cancelled, but will be replaced by a session with 2 International Officers and a past International Prez fresh from the mid-winter IBT. There should be some interesting discourse!
The rep from Airstream will also arrive today and conduct a question and answer session. At least one more new trailer to arrive this morning. We have one new International 28 on display and at This morning, a Base Camp is scheduled to arrive and be on display untoil Sunday.

What a day!
Sun shining. Sweater temperature. Flags flying in a light breeze. Just toured the new trailers on display including a Basecamp. I was really most impressed with the 28' International "Signature Series".
We just had Tim Garner from Airstream talk to us for an hour followed by a Q/A session. Look forward to a brand new Airstream website. Their classifieds and forum will probably go away real soon.
Vintage judging is all done. Next on the schedule is our catered BBQ dinner, followed by awarding the vintage prizes and entertainment.
One thing I didn't know till today was that a dealer must order 5 Basecamps to get any.

Vintage Rally Photos
Here is a sampling of photos from the Texas Vintage Rally taken earlier today. I have also included a shot of a really nice Squarestream.

I had such fun getting to know everyone at the rally! thanks to the McCabes for the pics so far. (We are the third on the right.) I wish I could have seen the square stream, but we were so busy, we didn't have a chance to go up into the newer trailers.
We'll post pics as soon as I recuperate and sleep enough to figure out how to work my camera again. ha.

Collin Melton called to tell us repeatedly just how much he’d enjoyed the weekend. He said that he didn’t know when he’d ever enjoyed himself more.
We also got a phone message from jimark, aka, Jimmy and Marque Mooney. In it, they stated how very much they’d enjoyed the rally and meeting everyone. It was exciting to meet moosetags, Renee' Etline and TomW.
I just want to tell everyone that I thought this rally was simply GREAT! I can’t think of much that would have improved it. Having folks come from Ohio, Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, Louisiana and elsewhere and find out they had an enjoyable experience can’t help but add to the reputation of the Texas Vintage Rally and should make next year’s rally even bigger and better. Texas Highland Lakes and the North Texas Units are to be commended.
My only suggestion for improvement would be that next year perhaps we could do a better job of policing the women’s restroom. I can’t have my name written on bathroom walls and ever hope to maintain my reputation.

My husband commented last night that "I don't know if Airstream people are just nicer than others, but these were the nicest, most fun people I've met in a long time." This was our first rally, so we weren't exactly sure what to expect. You've set a high standard now, I expect ALL rallies to be this great, or greater.
G - Sorry about the bathroom thing, but once word got out that you were there, none of the ladies could control themselves.
We took a bunch of pictures, but I don't want to slow down the page load for everyone. If you are interested in seeing some of what went on, click here to go to the photo album on my blog.

If the leaders are getting just a small percentage of the positive compliments I have received concerning the Texas State Vintage Rally experience, then it was an overwhelming success. I was simply an attendee and I've received eleven emails from folks expressing the fun they had, the amazement they shared, and encouraging me to let everyone know that they want more of this sort of experience. Evaluations were passed out with encouragement to let the leaders know what worked and what didn't so I hope they will have a handle on what made this rally so special, but I'll be passing along all the favorable comments I receive. Thanks everyone for your attendance and favorable comments.

We'll be bach...
Kim and I thoroughly enjoyed our first Vintage Airstream rally, and hope to make it to more. It was quite humbling to see, in person, the time & craftmanship others have put into their American Classics.
I uploaded a few pictures into the 'Rally' part of the photo section - Be sure and take a look. But I just got a call from GStephens' brother, and he wanted to make sure everyone saw this picture:
See you next time!

Thanks for the great photos. We were so busy "visiting" and having fun that we managed to not get a single photograph at the rally, but I have many, many great images of great folks burned into my brain.
TomW, did you fill out an evaluation of what you especially liked and any thing that you thought we might could have done better for next year? If not, would you make some comments here on the forum so that we might benifit from your experience and maybe make next year's rally even better, if that is possible. I just can't remember when I've had more fun at a rally. The food was great, the dancing was good, fun loving folks everywhere you turned, and so many outstanding trailers.
I really enjoyed meeting you and appreciate your coming all the way from Alabama in less than ideal traveling conditions much of the way. Thanks again.

Wow Tom! I looked at your photos and recognized a lot of familiar faces...wish it wasn't so far away, looks like y'all had a great time. With the folks I recognized in the crowd...I KNOW you did!
Thanks for sharing the pics ~

Yes, I filled out the form, and was happy to have an opportunity to express how pleased Kim & I were with the rally. We had no suggestions for improvement.
Now that I think about it though, you may want to consider warning first-timers about the polished Airstreams - In direct sunlight, one really needs to have sunglasses handy...

The boy did have a point
The weather was so nice on the extra day we stayed that I grilled steaks while Kim cooked french fries. Unfortunately, she did not have enough oil left between the small bottles of corn & vegetable oils we normally have onboard, and had to run by Wal-mart for more.
This morning, after returning from the grocery store with, among other things, more Airstream supplies, Kim casually mentioned that she had had to buy a big bottle of cooking oil while in Texas. My seven-year old jumped up from watching television and said, "Daddy! I know why!"
"Why son?", I asked.
"Because everything is bigger in Texas!"

Texas State Vintage Rally
We attended this rally last year and it was great!! I really liked how the vintage units were placed all together on the side road, which made viewing & touring them very easy. I don't remember the exact number of vintage trailers, but there were a lot of them there representing many years & models. I tried to attend as many of the seminars too - they were great - very informative. I belong to the Texas Highland Lakes Unit (a co-sponsor of this rally), and I can tell you they are a great group of friendly folks.
Judi & I are certainly planning on attending the 2008 Rally!!

62 and counting
We have 62 paid reservations and more coming in each day. We have about the same number of vintage rigs (25) as last year; the drop off in total numbers is due to several big units that were there last year but have conflicting rallies this year. These missing folks are generally not vintage trailers.
We do have the big meeting hall reserved as well as a good hall for the seminars. As last year, the vintage rigs will be parked together on a side road with no through traffic. There is a nice lake behind half the vintage rigs.
The seminar schedule is coming together and will be published here by 2/1.
By the way, I'm posting this from the Texas coast. The weather here and at Victoria has been from long-sleeve shirt to light jacket in the day and 40s at night. Should be similar weather at the rally.

Hate to tell you this, John, but it's been in 30s and misting rain here in Austin and more of the same coming the next 2 days. Brrrrrr...Guess we are having our usual week of winter.
Our phone is ringing off the hook with inquiries about the 2008 TX Vintage Rally. (Feb 6-10 in Montgomery, TX) So if anyone is still interested in coming for the whole rally or even 2 days, we're still taking reservations. Contact me by P M and I'll email you a schedule and registration form.
We don't even own a vintage but love 'em just the same.

I don't own an Airstream YET. I am really looking forward to seeing the classic trailers and the new ones. I understand the rally is open to the public on Saturday afternoon??

More and more!
We're up to 82 confirmed rigs and 3 probables. Add a few drive-in show-ups and this is going to be a record rally for us.
Some rain is expected Tuesday, then drying out by the end of the week. Saturday open house is the most critical day to have decent weather.
