How about the Trailer Park Troubadours! A little off the wall but I think it could work.
The Troubs have catchy music that you can dance to. If there's one thing the WBCCI members like to do it's dance - all ages. If it wasn't for the older generation dancing up a storm at the Nightstreamers party it would have been a mediocre attendance. There was an 80+ couple that danced all night - 2 hours straight. When Danielle and I spoke to them briefly we quickly realized they wanted to get back to dancing. Must have been something in the water in Perry.
I spoke to the incoming WBCCI president and told him that I would like to send comments/suggestions from a first-timers point of view. He was receptive to the idea so I'll plan to get something to him in the next few weeks.
Danielle and I were brainstorming last night (at the rally) with several other WBCCI members - one of the thoughts was to have the Trailer Park Troubadours play the rally. It's out there... way out there, I know. But it doesn't hurt to ask. I sent an email to the Troubadours booking agent - I'll let you know the response.

Lucius
Lucius,
The Troubs have played at the Airstream Homecoming, twice I believe. I think that they would be great, another group is ShaNaNa, the older members here might remember their television show. Fabulous 50's doowop.

I guess my recommendation of maybe some Hank Snow, Webb Pierce, Johnny Horton and Wanda Jackson wouldn't go over to well with this crowd. Dang. I remember hearing them sing on that there radidio when I was a youngster.
Oh well, back to reality I guess. Boy, with the songs and groups you guys are talking about I'm starting to feel like a youngster. Keep it up please and next thing you know I'll have hair again.....

During our brainstorming session (aka shootin' the breeze) last night somebody mentioned an RV rally that will be held in Perry, GA in March 2008. We discussed the pros/cons of WBCCI versus the manner that other organizations handle their rallys.
I know WBCCI is a volunteer organization. I know the club is (ahem) a little slow to adopt change. I'm a WBCCI supporter for a variety of reasons. However, and this is a big HOWEVER... look at the web site for The Rally to be held July 2007 in Redmond, Oregon (on the web site there is a link to The Rally to be held in March 2008 in Perry, GA). The web site for The Rally is everything I'd expect to see in the 21st century. What gives? How is The Rally possible (for $339) when we paid at least that amount for the 2007 WBCCI rally and the 2008 WBCCI rally will cost even more!

The Troubs were the featured Saturday night band at Airstream's 2005 Homecoming Rally, and man did they rock! Supremely danceable, they were infectous -- hard to stand still to. And they know their rivets! Heck, we could have a Rivet Revival! Holy Shavers!! ... And an Antsy Sing-A-Long .... just follow the bouncing Rivet. Way too cool to contemplate for Boozeman.
