We are thinking of passing through on our way to points out west. Does anybody know of a good quality campground outside the facilities we could drive from to attend a day's activities?
A big group of Wallys from the New England Unit are staying at Twin Oaks RV Park in Elko, GA - about 7 miles from the site of the International Rally. We've never been there but it looks nice on their website and the hosts have been super helpful and friendly in regards to our reservations and special needs.

I wanted to see if anyone was interested in joining up on the way to Perry. We're going to be coming from Indianapolis June 25th down I-65 through Nashville and Chattanooga over to I-75 through Atlanta and on into Perry, GA.
Planning on meeting the Vintage Club on June 26th at the pre-rally site.
We're planning on staying overnight at a nice campground in Chattanooga on June 25th.
Anyone hear about a place nearby to go swimming? i'm bringing a couple of teens with me who i know are gonna want to take a dip - and i may want to join them.
The Twin Oaks is a very nice campground! We stayed there just two weeks ago. The park has a very well kept pool and hot tub. The Sprint PCS wireless internet coverage was stronger at that park than anywhere I've ever been.
They also have their own free internet in the park...We highly recommend!

Great! Thanks for the information.
There will be 13 New England Unit rigs there during the 2007 International Rally. We selected to stay off site for various reasons, one of the biggest is having a pool to cool off in.

I am thinking about making the trip up from FL to Perry. It will be about 350 miles or so. I am new to this so not sure what to expect. To start with I have not had my Airstream very long, so not a member of anything. Although I do plan to join the Pensacola unit, everyone there was super nice when I attended the Vintage rally. I am still working on things like repacking wheel bearings, and prepping my Toyota for pulling. I have not registered because if I go, it will be a last minute thing. Question is can I join in for anything with my lack of preplanning. Being a single father with custody of 3 teen sons, sometimes planning is done at the last moment. I do understand higher fees, but I think I will go for only about maybe 2 or 3 days of the rally. Can I do any of this not being a member yet, and are they allowing last minute people like me. Plus will there be a place to set up. Worst case stay in a hotel. I have a wonderful little 1959 Fly Cloud to bring, but hate to make the trip only to be turned away or have no place to set up. From the main web site for WBCCI I get the sense its all or none, and you have to be registered months in advance. I understand voting and all is for members, but I would like to attend to learn and see what options I have for use on my '59 Flying Cloud, as well as our 1972 Tradewind. Both were bought to use after Hurricaine Ivan Damaged our home, but now are looked to for other fun uses. Any help on ideas for attending the rally up in Perry will be useful.
Thanks,
Shawn
P.S. This is posted in another thread, but was not sure I had the right place, sorry if I in the wrong place for the question.
I am at Perry now, I'll give you an update.
Haven't seen any mosquitos, it is too dry. There are groups of gnats that swarm by.
I have put 7 dust around anything that touches the ground and have not had any problems.
There are still some 3 point hook ups left. Sewage is not a problem. Gray water can be dumped on the ground. Black water is scheduled as you come in to be pumped out every 5 days.
There are still 30 amp sites available. Turn on your A/C early and stay cool.
Vintage sites are the best in the park. There are shade trees and grass. All have 3 point hook ups. The vintage sites are the best I have ever seen in 4 Int'l rallies.
It is a large area and trams will start running today to take you to all the park.
Come on down and have some fun.

Looks like everyone may be on the road. i'm leaving jersey at about 4pm today for perry. my suggestion is to book a campsite at the local campground mentioned a couple of post above your in the thread or use that as fallback if you can't secure a parking spot at the Rally proper.
you should hanging around the Vintage section. see you in PERRY!

If you come before Friday the 29th, it's a normal registration procedure. You'll have to join WBCCI on site if you're bringing your trailer.
If you come after the 29th they are currently trying to work out a pro-rated fee (everything ends the 4th/5th of July). There will be a tel# at the entrance for you to call. It will be a committee persons cell phone number. They will take your call and get you onsite. At that point you'll be able to get whatever minimal information you need to get you to all activities until you can actually get to registration.
The official word is -- with or without your trailer come! There are local hotels in the area if need be. You can always get day passes for as many days as you like. If you want to park with the Vintage AS club, you will also need to join the VAC when you arrive.
How accurate is this information? 100% I'm live in the registration area and the Registration Chairwoman just sat down with me to get you the exact info you need. Come on up!

While reading one of Rich Lhur's blog entries, I was reminded of a repellent for gnats and mosquetos...the later apparently isn't an issue at the International because of the draught, though. I grew up in Southeast Georgia and we didn't have too much of a gnat problem, at least not as bad as Central Georgia seems to have the reputation for these days. Any way, we used Avon's Skin So Soft to repel mosquitoes and gnats when they were a problem. Just make sure you don't get it in your eyes as it is oily and will burn, but it really works and is better for your skin than most insect repellents. Also remember, a little goes a long way so don't feel like you have to smell like a French..., well you know, don't take a bath in it unless you just want to conserve gray water tank capacity. Just dab a little around your eyes (sparingly) and ears and mouth. Gnats don't bite, but they sure do buzz around your ears and fly around your eyes and into your mouth and just make a nuisance of themselves in their quest for moisture.

Slowly working our way down from Delaware, and getting a few hours rest in Columbia, SC at a Flying J. Compared to I-95, Rt. 20 is a nice drive (so far). Nice people here. There's about a half dozen police cars parked at the restaurant. Met another Bambi owner, who was heading north for a family reunion,at a rest stop north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. So far we have give given two tours of the AS, and had an offer to sell it at a service station near Bishopville, SC. (RIGHT!) Should be in Perry sometime tomorrow morning. I brought plenty of insecticide if anyone needs any. Wonder what the bullpen looks like tonight?
We're making our way to Perry, as well! We made it to our destination--the Racoon Mtn Campground...near Lookout Mtn. Trying to decide if we have time to gawk at the touristy stuff, or just keep up the pace.
I can't wait to get there and see everybody! Safe travels everyone!
This will be the first time I have ever seen so much silver parked in one place. I will be visiting without my trailer, but I do look forward to meeting some of you. WBCCI 17109
