Here are some pictures taken at Highland Haven yesterday (Saturday). A beautiful day but a bit windy.

Gonna miss it....

Gorgeous pictures! Looks like we will have to put HH on our to-do list!

Doing wheels and tires today, but won't get the AS on the road for two weeks.

Regarding Chateau Morissette, the building is an amazing story and the Sunday brunch is fantastic! The chef is very creative!

Last time we went, however, the wine had drifted away from our tastes. I think they have significantly increased their production since we were there 4 or 5 years ago.

We will be in NC after Alumalina until Falluminum. Maybe a side trip to HH will fit into our busy schedule of wine on the back deck.

Al

Al and Missy,

It doesn't get much better than sitting on the patio next to your trailer at Highland Haven with a glass of wine looking at the view, particularly at sunset. We brought home our Airstream in August 2011 and spent our second night at Highland Haven. We loved it so much we extended that stay and have being going back frequently since then. The park is very convenient to the I81 corridor for those traveling north and south.

Ian,

The picture of the sites is deceptive. The angles are not 90 degrees. The road in front of the sites is wide with plenty of room to maneuver when backing in.

When you drive into the campground, see the host to get your assigned spot. Then drive to the end of the "runway", turn around in the circle, and head back down the runway to your site. The sites are angled to facilitate backing in when headed "outbound" on the runway.

There is a sign in front of the "host" site for the week.

Ian - You're a brand new owner - tell the host that. If you'd like someone more experienced to back you in, just ask. No point in stressing yourself out on your first rally. Worse yet, you don't want to be depressed if you're unlucky enough to get a scratch, etc.

As a woman I almost always get asked if I'd like help. I honestly say, "No thanks, I've backed in long enough to have delusions of adequacy."

So ASK.

Ian,

I've been towing for three years and I've been to HH a number of times. I still don't always back into the site perfectly in my own driveway or at campgrounds. No shame.

My second experience backing into a campsite was at HH. Day 2 of Airstream ownership. When we made reservations we told the host we were newbies. It took me several tries before I could back into the site and no one laughed, stared, or commented. I'm sure anyone there would have gladly backed the rig in for me had I asked. After we were in the site and completely unhooked, a number of people came over and warmly welcomed us, making us feel at ease. We've come back often and enjoyed every stay.

They say practice makes perfect. I'm still practicing and far from perfect!

I hope you have a great time at the rally and come back to Highland Haven often. It was beautiful there when I left today. Sunnygirl and I wanted to attend this rally but a death in the family requires our presence in NC.

Paula,

We're bringing an apple cake to the Pot Luck. It's from the Mennonite bakery in Floyd. We think they're to die for!
