Rode a variety of motorcycles for twenty five years... put 60k miles on my '82 R100RT in three years... from '83 to '86, but I decided a few years ago that I don't heal as quickly as I once did... so I'm on bicycles now...

I have tried to resist, but I just can't help chiming in.
In my early life, I was a professional motorcyclist.
In the late 60's and early 70's, I was A City of Tallahassee, Florida, Police Motorcycle Officer. I was in my early 20's, had a giant, very fast motorcycle, and I could go as fast as I wanted to. It was the best job that I ever had in my life.
One of my favorite activities was hiding behind a billboard (the kind with lattice on the bottom) on US 27 out by the truck route. At that time, the speed limit went from 70 mph to 45 mph at the city limits. The pickings were easy, and I could snag my eleven moving violations by 10:00 AM. The rest of the day could be spent playing around and working a few wrecks. Life was good.
I learned to ride on a 1962 HD FLH. It was a hand shifter, foot clutch. We would remove the clutch spring, and ride suicide clutch. It was an art form taught to me by the senior officers who had been bike cops since the 1940's. They were quite a crew, and I will never forget them. Several of them had been motormen for over thirty years. It was an honor to ride with them.
In 1970, I got a brand new foot shifter. There was a learning curve, but I got the hang of it. The bike that I rode had Florida motorcycle city tag number 2. The capital city got the low tax exempt tag numbers.
That was a wonderful time of my life. I left in 1972 to become a Fed. In those days it was the only way to make any real money in law enforcement. I miss it to this day.

Here is one of my current motorsickles. It is so much fun it must be illegal. Adios, Johnhttp://www.airforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=88026&stc=1&d=12543657 07
Been riding since the early 60's. Now have a tricked out M109 that is the best yet. Came very close just last week trading in the Airstream for a toy hauler so the bike can go with us.
I've been riding since I was 14. My current ride is a 2001 Triumph Bonneville.

You may guess from my forum name that I'm a Goldwing Rider!
I have had many bikes on and off over the last 50 years! Starting with a
British Paratroopers collapsible motorscooter desgned to be dropped from planes in a cannister (WWII).
Progressed thru Whizzers, Jawa's Triumphs etc. Then followed a hiatus for a while until I bought a little Honda Passport step thru scooter in the seventies to carry ionside the 20' travel trailer we then owned.
Kept that a few years until we sold the trailer when our kids grew to an age where they didn't want to camp!
Then took up an interest in restoring/driving Brit sports cars, so no bikes for a decade or so. (Still have a fully restored/modified 1979 Mini!)
In 2001 after taking early retirement, I decided to get back into bikes and sold a Triumph TR6 sportscar to finance purchase of a new Honda 750 ACE (Harley lookalike!)
Loved it, and even completed an "Iron Butt" ride on it - 1000 miles in under 24 hrs.
In 2006, I realized that if I wanted to do any serious long distance riding, especially with the Mrs., the 750 wouldn't cut it!
I figured I might only have one more bike purchase left in me (maybe not!!) so went for broke and got a new Goldwing with all the bells & whistles, ABS, GPS, heated seats etc.
It has worked out really well - taken me from coast top coast in Canada, and down to Florida to attend a family wedding. I built a small luggage trailer to pull behind on longer trips when we are riding two up.
I think I'll be on two wheels as long as health permits - maybe when I lose my sense of balance or strength I'll go back to four wheel toys!
The only thing I enjoy more than a great road trip on the Wing bike is a trip with the truck & Airstream, and I'm not even sure about that!

Current ride - HD VROD. Over 100K miles in last 10 years. Just returned from the Devils Hwy in AZ, old US 666, talk about CRISP, how about 4 hail storms that day. My face was so cold I looked like Palosi (but not that ugly).
I ride a Vespa GT200 & my husband rides a Honda Enduro. I like the control I have by myself & he likes to do wheelies whenever he wants! (farmboy tricks). My sister & I rode out to our other sister's house in Grand Rapids, MI this summer & put on 400 miles. Had a blast. I think we're having our mid-life crisis's! We probably will get a comfy Gold Wing when I want to let him have the wheel. Love it, & hope to live through it! (Our son is going to the bone dr. next week due to a crash on his cycle, so it's a little too real right now!)
Started on dirt bikes about 30 years ago....have had two street bikes; first an '81 Goldwing that I got in 2000, fixed it all up, and really liked. Sold it and bought a new Kawi KLR650 Dualsport bike in 2003. Have done a few mods to it for adventure touring, but have not ridden it down to Honduras and back like another WV guy I met who rode his from Moorefield WV to South America and back. He hooked up with the Moonride guys (who went from LA to Tierra del Fuego and back, then from Capetown to Cairo and back).
I like the big enduro, but want to get a second bike that's better for the street. The KLR is a bit small. I'm a Kawi guy and am looking hard at the new Concours 14. Basically a ZX-14 converted to shaft drive, a bigger fairing, more upright seating, and cams changed for more torque and lower peak horsepower. It's still 156hp, so it should move out OK
I've never ridden a Bimmer sport tourer myself, but I know some guys who have them and really like them. That group of guys rode a Connie 14 at my local dealer and said it was spectacular. So I'm taking that on good authority. Works for me anyway. Plus, I even like the color
I did find a Harley Night Rod at a nearby dealer that I REALLY like a lot! My problem is that I'm like Jay Leno in that I like all the different kinds of bikes. Unlike Jay Leno, I don't have the fundage to acquire them all. They always build at least two of everything; one for the museum and one for Jay Leno!
i was born to biking. my mom and dad rode very hot indians. my dad had a 48 chief that was clocked at 147mph. been around bikes all my life. 64 yrs. did alot of dirt racing in my younger days. all my road bikes have been choppers that i built. my ride now is a 1996 road king that has been dropped to the ground. i have about 3in under him. the neck has been cut to 34 degrees. it's FI with a commander to tune with and a andrews 27 cam. will carry the bike on a rampage lift in the back of our 90 chev dually and hopefully be pulling a AS. later
Been riding since '63. I've owned a 1949 Indian Chief, a 1963 Triumph 650 Bonnieville, a 1965 BSA 441 Victor, a couple of Hondas, one Yanaha, and am currently on my 5th Harley, a 1995 Heritage Softail. Both my grandfather and father were Harley riders; so I guess it's in my blood.
