I've never done it before, but I could attempt a batch of homemade baked beans in the Dutch oven. I've made the beans before, just never using the Dutch oven, so it could be disastrous.

Steve, It is the same as cooking them at home. Low and slow is the key. Trun your pot every 10 -15 minutes to avoid major hotspots.
Wish we were able to come down, hope you all have a great time.

Steve, can you contact Kelly? I don't know her name on here or if she even has time to read the forum.

I tried a new recipe for Apple Cobble Deluxe in the DO that got rave reviews this weekend. I'll make it again at Turkey Run. I'll be looking for something else as well. Maybe homemade vanilla ice cream for the cobbler.

We're almost ready!!!
Since this will be our inaugeral trip with our trailer, we're down to the wire on our "to do" list before departure. It's looking good and we are very excited.
I've been searching recipes and it looks like I've come up with a tasty sweet potato with pecan topping for the dutch oven for Saturday's Turkey Feast. Still planning on doing s'mores, but may be a bit later around the campfire since I still only have one d.o. I'll bring a fruit salad to dinner too.
See everyone on Friday!!!

We could do the s'more thing on friday. We may all be too stuffed after turkey for anything else. As of now we are making a big pot of beef soup on friday. We joined a produce co-op and I am picking up our first box tonight. It is supposed to have enough fruit and veg for a family of 4 for 2 weeks so I am really curious to see what we get.
Tina, what time are you guys leaving?

We were planning on arriving about check-in time - 2pm. If I can get Mike out the door a bit earlier, we'll get there earlier.
So does that mean we are all invited for soup? We were planning a D.O. chili Friday. We'll bring bowls for all to share, whoever wants to stop by is welcome. We'll have bread from Fazio's bakery on the hill too. Mike has already requested that, it goes great with soups and chili.
We'll have all the stuff for s'mores, so we'll be on stand-by to prepare when everyone is ready.
We can't wait - I'm about to bust I'm so excited, I don't know how I'm going to get any work done this week...

There will be plenty of soup. We try to make friday night easy and have something ready for the ones who get there late so they don't have to cook in the dark. I think everyone will be there earlier this time. The only one I don't know arrival time is Kelly who is coming from Michigan. Get Mike up earlier. It is a 4 hour trip for us and probably 5 for you.

Have a great weekend, y'all, and throw an extra log on the campfire for us!
We are headed to Cades Cove for a couple of days, hoping to see a few bears.

Kelly will be arriving Wednesday, but she's driving over to Morton for the Pumpkin Festival during the day Thursday. She won't be back until late-evening. Weren't we talking about doing a Morton Pumpkin Chucking Rally at one point?

This could get good... Alan was at the National Pumpkin Chunking rally in '09 (thread link above). I am sure he could give us lots of advice. Mike is always up for creating something that may be "not it's intended use..." Maybe Kelly needs to bring lots of pumpkins back from the festival on Thursday. See, I don't even know Kelly and I'm already suggesting what she should do!

The chucking is on a different date from the pumpkin festival. It is in mid Oct. I hope she realizes what a long drive it is from Turkey run to Morton and back. She will be very tired. Steve B was trying to get a rally there a few years ago. The organizers liked the idea I think but could never get us a place to camp. the nearest campground is about 25 minutes away.

For those that may have been looking forward to new shirts, I am sad to report that I have not had time to make a new one for this rally. It has been quite the busy summer here plus the machine had to be serviced plus I actually forgot about it for several weeks. Maybe next time.

Well, if Kelly brings some pumpkins, couldn't we do our own Chucking? I mean, hey, it could still be fun. Then we'll make pumpkin pies, cookies, soup and everything else pumpkin!
Yay!!
Alan - I'll bring you a t-shirt and write Rally on it OK?
