Trap Pond Get-Together

FYI,

A group of us are braving the cool fall weather and planning a meet-up
at Trap Pond State Park in southern Delaware the weekend of 11/20-11-21.

We will be arriving on Friday and departing on Sunday. We have reserved our spaces in the A Loop.

So far, we have six units attending.

If you have the time and want to have some cool weather camping fun why not make plans and come join us.

Make your reservation through Delaware state parks website:
http://www.destateparks.com/camping/trap-pond/index.asp
<http://www.destateparks.com/camping/trap-pond/index.asp>

Use the promotion code: 1050novcamp when you register.

Come join us around the campfire (I'm sure we will need it!)

Howie,

Check out this site, and you should be able to get a good idea of what sites are still available. It's an informal gathering, so there are no sites blocked. It shouldn't be a problem getting a good site at Trap this time of the year. Ask the reservation center about the half price deal. The group is centered around "A" loop - sites A-18, 19, 20, etc. It's one of my favorite campgrounds. Of course, after working at Delaware State Parks for over 30 years, I guess I could be a little biased. Hope you and Braith can make it.

Here's a map of the campground.

It's a great campground - we were there for a rally hosted by Greg and Lori back in September. We'd hoped to go to this, but unfortunately we had prior commitments. Have a good time!

We had a great time at the WDCU rally there in September. Its a very nice park. Can't make it next week, but if one is planned for sometime next year we'll try to be there.

Howie,

It was nice seeing you on I-287.

If you make it to Trap, bring your bicycles. Greg will be leading the Tour De Trap around the pond.

What a great weekend with outstanding weather! Mother Nature smiled on us for this get-together. Sunny daytime highs in the 60's and clear nightime lows in the 40's (bright, nearly full moon). No worries with freezing. A campfire everynight, terrific friends, great conversations, just good times. Trap Pond state park is a marvelous location to camp anytime but it is especially appealing in the fall.

The loops of the park were sparsely populated with other campers, both tent and trailer. My hats off to the tent campers who brave the cool nights we experienced. We had a total of seven trailers show up. Howie and Braith, - Jerry, Sonia and Coleen, - Kim, Danee, Griffin, and Campbell, - Nick and Jill with their furry crew, - Greg and Lori, - and Peg. (My apologies if I spelled anyone's name incorrectly)

Friday and saturday evening happy hours with enough snacks to make dinner. Friday evening Peg provided (Lori assisted) the hot dogs with chips and fantastic Kahlua coffee with cinnamon, chocolate shavings and whipped cream. What a comforting drink to savor while sitting next to a warm fire.

Saturday morning arrived and a most of the group headed out for a tour de Trap Pond bike ride around the lake with Greg leading the peloton . A couple of use chose to stay in the campground. I went for a walk through the loops and along the lake, it was a quiet, peaceful saturday morning. When the bike trip was over a couple of the families headed to the movies in Salisbury to take in a saturday afternoon matinee of the new Harry Potter movie. Other chose to relax around the campground and I headed down to Bethany Beach to take a drive on the beach, then I headed up to Rehobeth Beach and strolled the boardwalk (it was 65 degrees and sunny) I was surprised by the number of people in and around Rehobeth two months after the summer season ended and about 85% of the businesses shut down for the winter.

(Sorry for the fuzzy pictures I didn't realize till later I had a big ole finger smudge on my UV filter.)

Saturday evening dinner surprise was provided by Greg and Lori, a deep fried turkey along with curley fries. Side salads provided by Peg and Sonia, pound cake by Braith, rolls, stuffing, Jill's birthday cake provided by Nick (everyone sang happy birthday), Jerry and Sonia's hot mulled (potent!) apple cider with rum , plenty of pre-dinner snacks and beverages as well as late evening warm brownies around the campfire (thanks for the egg Jill!). I"m sure I missed something, there's always too much food to recall. Another unbeatable evening around the fire with friends, stories and laughs.

Sunday morning was time to hitch up and head home. A couple of the lucky ones stuck around for another night and planned to leave on Monday.

I'm glad we decided to extend the camping season with one more gathering of friends. It was another memorable weekend.

Hope to see everyone down the road.

Remember, its "just camping".

Great time with great friends and of course, great food!

We should do this again when Trap Pond opens for the 2011 season.
