Nice weather, sounds great. It's pounding down rain at the moment. I'm thinking we might take another day to get down there, it's almost 400 miles... And it would be more fun to take another route than 99 or 5. Any input would be great

You could do 101 to Paso then over 46/41 to 198 but that adds 80 miles. You can shave some mileage off by going from 101 at King City directly on 198 but there is a decently steep section on the west end and various curves through the whole route.

I do have a suggestion once you get to I5 south of the 205. Get on highway 33. It is two lane in very good shape. You do have some small towns so don't expect great time but it is an easy drive.

The route that we do all the time when coming home is take 33 south off of 152 east of Los Banos (plus you can stop at Toscanos if you want). Continue on 33 south through Dos Palos, Firebaugh to Mendota. Take 180E from Mendota through Kerman into Fresno. From there 99S to 198E. This way you only get about 50 miles of 99.

Just a thought or two.

2Stream, that's great, thanks! I've taken 33 farther south, when it goes through the oil fields and a small town with an museum, all of which I find really interesting.

Three Rivers Rally ~March 14-16, 2014~

We went through there ( the southern end of 33) too but not on purpose coming back from Arizona a couple of years ago. Had a flat on the Twinkie coming across the desert (it kindly started hissing at us at a rest stop it was only 104) so we had the spare in use, then lost a second tire coming down the Grapevine. We figured maybe they were done and spent some quality time in Taft at the Goodyear shop. You are right, Peter, those oil fields are amazing.

Julie! I saw your post here and hoped you guys were going to come to the rally. I'm kind of nervous about flats, but we have two new tires and a spare (and a floor jack accompanies us everywhere), fingers crossed. I looked at 33, then looked at going down 101 and over 198. I found a campground on 101 just before 198 heads east...

Bummed that my hubby can't make it, but super excited that he gave me the thumbs up to take the rig out to see some trees! My aunt and cousin will be joining me and we will be in site #53 fri-mon so feel free to stop by and say hi! I heard this is an amazing pull through site with the door facing the river! Soooooo nice. Does anyone know if Mosquitos will be a problem this time of the year?

Be sure to lock your valuables up at night while staying at Emma Wood. They have a huge problem with thefts in the middle of the night. Gang members stake the campground out during the day and return in the early morning hours. I had a mountain bike stolen (cut cable) along with three other bikes and a couple of generators. I do a lot of beach camping and that place still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Woo hoo - hubby just informed me we're coming on Thur too!! We should roll in mid afternoon so count us in if we do a group dinner somewhere!!

Also - we have a few Airstream related items that we're happy to give to anyone who can use them:

Excella nameplate - we took it off the propane tank cover of our Sovereign
Full set of the orig triple pleat curtains out of our Sovereign 21. They are grey and in decent shape - need cleaning more than anything
Orig speaker covers out of our Sovereign 21 - these are the rectangular brown ones - total of 4
Plastic toilet seat from the Dometic toilet in our new Serenity.

Let me know if you can use any of these and we'll bring them to Three Rivers or Casini.

I have to tell you, we are going to have a blast. I herd that there are some pretty good hiking trails. Lots to do in Sequoia as well. I can't wait.

And another dessert- probably profiteroles (gluten free, but not cream or eggs free!)

We were on the wait list for a river site if someone canceled.

It's not the way we would have wanted to be upgraded, but they did move us to #28.
