STS-134 - Endeavour's Last Ride Rally

Well, I pulled the trigger and decided to assemble another gathering at KARS Park to witness Endeavour's Last Ride! I was considering staying at my home and making some cash-o-la by allowing parking & partying at my home (to later donate to the Wild Horse Rescue Center). My home is directly across from KSC and has a sweet view! A few co-workers are coming in from Canada and will watch my place while I enjoy a few days of camping at KARS with ya'll!!

See the Rally Calendar for reservation information and please RSVP as well!!
Airstream Forums - STS-134 - Endeavour's Last Ride Rally

Post any comments or questions here!

Please show your appreciation in my extending this invitation by donating to Wild Horse Rescue. I'm sure that if I stayed at home I could raise several hundred dollars for this amazing (Mustang) rescue center that I volunteer with ... So I'd really appreciate if you can drop them a donation. You'll find a Paypal link at the bottom of the site: About Us Believe me, 100% of this donation goes STRAIGHT to the horses: right now they are needing wormer, fly spray, spring vaccinations and hay, hay, hay!

Hi Laura,

Are dogs welcome in the camping area? This really sounds great! Can't wait to tell the better half.

Thanks,

Ellen

Of course (leashed) dogs are allowed - wouldn't go anywhere without mine!!! You cannot have dogs in the pavillions or ball fields. There are probably a few other restrictions around the displays & vendors/catering stuff though...

NOTE: there are alligators - use caution along the banks!

In re-reading that, it kinda *comes off funny*. Sorry, didn't mean to sound smug or arrogant - just worded it poorly. Too late to EDIT. So please don't take that as it might sound. Just feeling a tiny bit guilty about not helping to raise $$$ for WHRC when I get an opportunity (which isn't very often).

Endeavour Launch

Laura,
I have been watching this site for news of another rally similar to the one you hosted for the launch last Feb 2010. We tried to view the launch of Discovery from the beach here in Melbourne but it was not the same. The Atlas launch of a "secret" satellite tonight presented a greater view (of course it was in a different direction) than the Discovery launch but none so great as the "2010 KARS park" launch.
We have reserved and are ready. Also, in deference to you we will make a contribution to the organization you favor.
Richard

Yippie Richard. I tried to send out a "heads up" email but I guess I did something wrong. Using this site for mass PMs is not the most efficient mechanism ...
Glad you got your reservations. I figured the soul reservation specialists at NASA would be off early on Friday and not available until noon on Monday. :-) Actually, poor Annette - she's going to get slammed with calls. And I bet the girls at KARS (same as last time) are really *unimpressed* with all the action. I made reservations for a riverfront site but imagine that, by the time I arrive, someone will already be in my site. Time for a new deep cell so I am ready to boondock!

And thanks for donating. Diane at WHRC gives so much of her time and finances to the mustangs that I am in awe. Makes me realize I could live with MUCH less for the right job/passion.

Sad day at KSC

One of my co-workers fell at the launch pad this morning and did not survive. He was performing a routine job, walking down the pad structure to identify any debris that could damage the shuttle. There are some disturbing rumors about the situation but the investigation will reveal the facts - regardless, it is a huge loss. He was slated for *voluntary layoff/retirement* in April. RIP my Friend. Thanks for always treating me respectfully and for the happy memories.

Sorry for your loss. Sometimes we tend to forget that many individuals risk themselves everyday in pursuit of our nations goals.

Laura.

The space program is to me, some fantastic research in many ways far ahead of common technology.

Having been in daily research work myself, many years ago, it sometimes has surprises that are great, and sometimes very sad.

A team effort, is what makes the program work.

Unfortunately, being up front or behind the scenes, all has it's risks.

So very sad, about your friend, who I am sure, will be well remembered for his efforts and contributions.

Andy

So sad to hear of this tragedy at 39A today.
Laura, I am especially saddened to find out that this person was someone that you knew. My heartfelt condolences go out to you and all of the NASA family. I will think of him when Endeavour is riding that mighty tail of flame and gasses on it's way into orbit.
Bob

Laura,
We are so sorry for your loss. The work done by people in your profession cannot be measured by dollars and cents. The risks are great and the benefit to human kind are inestimable. We are all so much in debt to the workforce at KSC. Please accept our condolences.
Dick and Kathy
