NWS : Steens Mountain Rally, September

The Idaho Unit is hosting a rally September 23-27 at the Steens Mountain Resort in Frenchglen, Oregon. This is a joint rally with the two Oregon Units (Oregon and Western Oregon). Here's the info I printed in the Oregon Unit Newsletter

Steens Mountain Rally


I'm really excited about this rally. I've heard how beautiful and rugged the landscape is in SE Oregon, and seen pictures, but never had a chance to go there - it's a little out of the way! Look on a map, there's a lot of space between the dots. I've heard it's the most desolate region in the lower 48.

So we decided this is one rally we don't want to miss. Who knows when we'll get a chance to enjoy this area again. I wanted to make sure everyone else who might want to come heard about it, so I thought I would post it here.

So, can we expect to see anyone else there?

We'll be there for sure. First time there last Oct (return trip to Kansas) we were snowed out and the loop road was closed.
I think the caravan part is for the Idaho unit folks.....so won't be in on that, but the rest sounds real good! Should be cool fall weather at that altitude.

By Caravan do you mean their plans to drive the loop road on Monday? I'm sure everyone's welcome at that, it's the thing I'm most looking forward to! Well, not looking forward to driving it in my gas guzzling tow vehicle, but you know what I mean...

I believe the two Oregon units are joining the Idaho unit for this rally.....and that the Idaho unit was going to caravan down to the Steens. I also think the Western Oregon unit is trying to caravan to the Steens also.

That makes sense, since they're heading there from different directions. The Oregon Units should caravan down together. How long do you think it takes to get there from Corvallis? I went to school in Klamath Falls, but this looks like quite a bit further.

Its probably a good 5 hour drive at least.
