Our US 64 detour

We'll be coming to Springstream via US 76. We'll leave Cleveland,TN heading south on TN 60. This becomes GA 71 at the Georgia border. Continue on GA 71 to Dalton,GA. Left onto US 76 to the campgrounds. I followed this route & the I-75, TN 68, to US 64 route via sattlelite imagery. The southern route is mostly 4 lane roads. I would like to hear anyone's opinion on either route before making my decision final.

Ricky

Howdy. I would be sorely tempted to go east from Cleveland, and south on US-411 to Chatsworth (US-76/GA 282). 411 stays west of the mountains, so the only mountain climb/descent is 76 going east from Chatsworth. As I recall, US-411 is just a country road in Tennessee, but is 4 lane in much of GA.

Just our view, but the less we have to deal with I-75 and Dalton, the better Sue and I like it.

If you want more adventure, you can climb over Fort Mountain from Chatsworth on GA-52, but I don't recommend towing that route. The last time I towed over that route, I over-heated my brakes and just about couldn't stop (rookie error on my part with brake fade making it difficult to stop). It is beautiful though, and we drive that way occasionally when we go from Ellijay to Dalton, or back.

Phil (in Ellijay on GA-282/US-76)

Springstream Argosy's ??? & Dutch oven master's

Hello all,
Are there any Argosy's coming to Springstream 2010? We have some friend's that have an Argosy that they have owned since new, I think. A good friend of mind is their son and he and his brother grew up camping in it. He has spent a lot of time recently helping them get their tow vehicle and Argosy road ready since it hasn't been on the road in many years. I've been trying to talk them into coming for a couple of years. I also have some good friends that will be camping in D-17 next to us (D-15). They are in a SOB fifth wheel that they recently purchased from family. This will be their first trip out camping at all. They are concerned about being in a SOB but I assurred them they would be welcomed also! Look for their fifth wheel with the flamingo flag! We previously brought other friends in a SOB and they later commented that it was the nicest group they had ever camped with. It was the guy that did the giant bubbles, some of you may remember.

To summarize:
D-15- Geven & Ruth (StreaminGuy) '67 Caravel
D-17- Mark & Margaret (Fifth wheel SOB)
D-13- (I think)- David & Julie (currently working on another Spartan resto)
D-19- Bob & Dianne (original Argosy owners)

Thanks, G

PS- Dutch oven cookers PM me for any get togethers during this rally on cooking instructions/tips. We've only used ours a couple of times since purchasing from Jim in the Fall. Or stop by if you can, D-15.

Cool! We'll look forward to seeing you there! Theirs is a 1975 26 foot...I just learned that they actually bought it from the original owner in about 1980.

Thanks, G

...still thinking about coming up for the Saturday "tour of homes." Is it Ok to pop in just for the "tour?" We can bring pictures of our mostly-a-skeleton-right-now Overlander for our contribution to the tour...

You bet it is OK. You are always welcome to come for as much or little of the rally as you can. Just bare in mind there is an admission fee if you don't stay for the pot-luck...just kidding.
