Any suggestions on a route for a newbie tow guy with a long trailer and a short truck? I am driving up from the South side of Atlanta.

My preferred route is: I go right by Peachtree City on I-85 on my way from northwest Florida. I take I-285 on the west side of Atlanta up to I-75. Then take I-75 north to I-575 and take I-575 northeast through Canton and then proceed on Highway 5/515 up through Ellijay, Blue Ridge, Blairsville, and then Hiawassee. Four lane road all the way to Blairsville.
See you there.

I might just have to drive up and crash the party :-) I don't have a trailer.. yet. But perhaps I could oogle some, and meet/ remeet you-all .... ??
I'm gonna say that this time I'm not going to rough it and sleep in the TV like I did for the BRRRRRR Canopener. I hope there might be lodging nearby that takes dogs?

Rae, you should have won an award for roughing it at the CanOpener! You could rough it again this time - it will be a lot warmer. Anyway, try googling motels in Hiawassee. I have stayed at the Ramada Inn right by the entrance of the Georgia Mtn Fairgrounds. Don't know if they take dogs. Also consider Blairsville, which is only 20 minutes west, if no luck in Hiawassee. Blairsville has a couple of the national chain motels. Hope you come.

By far the easiest route. You will get caught by at least 1 light in each town though.
Just enjoy the ride as much of it now is new asphalt.

As some of you know......especially Roadtoaster who will be enjoying our lakefront site.....we had to cancel out of Springstream in order to take care of family matters in Knoxville. However, it now appears that we will be able to swing by Hiwasse on Saturday afternoon to "grip and grin." We're looking forward to seeing some familiar faces again.
Rae....you need to come on up.....you won't be the only one sans Airstream.

We have found the best way for us to go from Fayetteville is to go up I-85 to I-285 and go around Atlanta and go north on I-75 then get on GA-5 (Exit 268) and follow it 'till it turns into US-76 for a total of 75 or so miles. Stay on US-76 'till you get to the GA Mountain Fairgrounds on the left. The roads are good (four lane all the way to Elijay). Depending on time of departure and traffic reports, you might go through Atlanta.

Okay I'm in. I just don't know what day yet. Is there a day "not to miss"? :-) Guess I'd better figure it out soon. Rae

I think I will skip the connector and take 285 around. I am sure all of the traffic reports would be talking about me if I go through town!

We traveled the southern route today. We went I-75 to Dalton, then Hwy 76 all the way into Hiawassee! Great travel road. Even better than the Ocoee River route. AND it's 5 miles closer, took the same amount of time and it is a pretty drive! We'll see ya'll next Friday!
Happy Easter everyone!

It really depends on the time of day... i.e. rush hour(s). I have driven the connector with our 30' AS more times than I-285, but it really depends on time. I have also been stuck on the connector literally for hours while the repaving was being done, and that was on a Saturday!

I got the tow vehicle started today for a green waste dump run and noticed another fuel leak. Fortunately, I just needed to clean and reseat the fuel line connections into the carb. Gave me a chance to also clean the fuel filter inside the carb, which suprisingly was cleaner than last time.
With any luck, the maintenance issue for this trip is already solved.
