Spring 2018 Rally

Starting early to be sure we have reserved the spot for Air Midwest Spring 2018 Rally, April 19 - 22. Jane & I have searched the internet and visited 4 candidate RV Parks within easy driving distance to Bentonville, AR. We found Big Elk Floats & Camping, Pineville, MO to be the best. Their website is www.bigelkfloatsandcamping.com (How do I insert a linK?)
This is 20 miles from Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art as well as Amazeum, the children's discovery museum. Bentonville downtown is terrific too. It's also a short drive to Pea Ridge National Military Park, site of a major civil war battle.
Big Elk is holding sites A-30 through A-56 for us as well as the Pavilion. Register with Big Elk by http://www.airforums.com/forums/cale...=2018-4-19&c=1 Those who RSVP by March 20 will be included in the initial prize drawing for the item of choice.

More info to follow on this thread!

AirForum Rally attendees come in a wide age range. We are in our 70's.
There will be a group gathering on Thursday evening, trailer open house for those who want to allow others to see their home on wheels and then a group dinner with prize drawings on Saturday evening.
There are many interesting sites nearby for tours but having the Airstream scrapyard nearby is one we didn't know about. At the RV park float trips and fishing could be arranged.

We hope you will join us!

Jim we are busy right now but appreciate the invitation . We will keep you folks in mind when we hit the road again. Who knows we might make that spring rally.

Whoops! The informal gathering with shared snacks will be Friday evening, not Thursday, but those of us arriving early might get together both nights to drink a brew and chat. The open house is normally late Saturday morning.

We would like to try something different for the Saturday meal unless you good folks prefer all potluck again. How about if we have catered barbecued pork & chicken, 2 sides, bread, tea & lemonade for about $10? Final catered items might vary but we could supplement these with "potluck" additional sides, salads, and deserts. Adult beverages would be for participants to provide for themselves.

Catering this meal would not be viable unless all share the cost. Children 12 & under should have a reduced plate price.

I think it’s a great idea! The cost for two meats and option to bring a side are both very doable!

Dinner

Great idea. Hate to dissapoint about the salvage yard. Was there this fall and they only had two. They disposed of most a couple of years ago. It is a great place to explore and just imagine what happened to those rv's. The store there is a great place to wander too. Lots of New and used stuff. They had plenty of chiggers in the field though. Ate up from head to toe.

Salvage

Clarify. Only two Airstreams and hundreds of others. Motor homes and trailers.

DEET for the skin and Permethrin for the clothes should help with that. Forewarned is fore-armed. Saves having to be four-armed to swat all of the little buggers!

Smile

Insect repellant is a smart idea when outdoors in temperate weather but to be sure it is clear to all, the chigger problem was not at Big Elk Floats and Camping.

So far 7 of us have signed up on the Rally Calendar with 2 more "maybes". That's pretty good for this early. Each of us also need to register with the campground for a particular spot. All or our reserved spaces are shown as not available on their website so it is best to call Charla at 417-223-4635, letting her know you are part of our rally. Leave a voice message if no answer. Starting in February she will be in the office on Saturdays from 10am to 2 pm. You may also e-mail her at

Mountain Man, sorry you had too long of a phone tag game. This is the slooow season for such places, although Charla does get phone messages. She plans to be at the park this month on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!

We will be planning to come! Looking forward to it, looks like a good place for the rally. I will plan to call Charla on Monday to reserve.

Catered dinner, Saturday, April 21, 6:00 pm

Hearing no objections, we have committed to have Cowboy Catering Company provide the basics for this meal. This company has excellent reviews & generous portions. We need all attendees to participate at a plate cost of $10, whether for adult or child.

Cowboy will serve barbequed pulled pork and chicken with buns and BBQ sauce along with smoked beans and coleslaw. We will provide paper platters and paper towels for your use.

You will need to bring your own drinks and utensils. It would be great if you want to also provide a potluck additional side dish, salad or desert to share.

We will need a definite head count for each party not later than Sunday, April 15 and that total meal count will be what the caterer brings. One easy way to do this is to include it and your site number by editing your entry on the Rally Calendar:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/cale...=2018-4-20&c=1

At our Friday evening informal gathering and grazing or at Site A-45 on Saturday, Jane & Jim Foster will have $10 dinner tickets for all hungry heads previously counted.

Thumbs up Update

Charla reports that 14 of 27 sites she is holding for our group have been reserved. Deadlines ahead:
  • March 22 = register on the Air Forums Rally Calendar to be eligible for a drawing for first choice of available prizes: http://www.airforums.com/forums/cale...=2018-4-20&c=1
  • March 30 = Last day that Big Elk will hold our sites for our exclusive use.
  • April 15 = let us know your Saturday catered dinner headcount for your site.
Charla, (417-223-4635) returns from a trade show on Thursday and plans to generally be in the office weekdays during March.

Consider bringing a raffle prize for Saturday. Every site will have one free raffle ticket and you will have your choice of still available prizes when your number is drawn.
