Alan, that would be most awesome if you can make it - even for a cameo!

OK, so earlier today I reserved the pavillion for Saturday. We can pass around a hat for anyone who wants to pitch in - no big deal. Very pretty site!

We're going down the weekend of 8/1-8/3 to check it out and see for ourselves. If anyone will be in the area, we will be in site #5. Shouldn't be hard to find, we'll be the silver trailer!

Saturday night
It'll be end of summer, and so for (Saturday night) food I thought we might want to have an End of Summer (Thong) Thang theme. There are two grills there at the pavillion. Might we want to put together an end-of-summer cookout? Burgers, dogs, tofu, zucchini steaks, corn-on-the-cob, fresh veggies? Surf's up.

My wife and I are looking at our schedules to see if we can make this. I will call to see if there are any spots left. We are new to Airstream camping or should I say we are new to owning a camper trailer. This would be our first time going to a RV park. We pulled our Airstream to our retirement property a few weeks ago and that was our first time pulling it and camping in it.
If I go I will have to get my game plan down to get through Atlanta traffic. I will not be getting off work until 5:00 P.M. then 45 minutes home, hooking up the trailer and then going from Southeast Gwinnett to the camp ground.

Alan, I meant to ask earlier, would you mind if we asked the campground host if we could save you a spot for Saturday night?

Brian, we'd be happy to have you. I have an idea to save you a bunch of time, and only cost you a little money. The afternoon before the rally, rent a car for a day, hook the truck up to the trailer, and drive the rental to work the next day, and home that afternoon. Then hop in the truck, drive past the car rental place with your wife following, drop off the car, and go. It'll probably save you an hour hookup time.

Brian,
Don't sweat this. We got caught in rush hour traffic last January and February heading southbound from Marietta. Choose a lane that does not end anywhere in town and you'll be good to go, even if it takes two hours to make it past the airport!
I take 285 rather than 75/85 through town if traffic cooperates. 285 isn't quite the roller coaster 75/85 is.
Anyone know if the road construction is on-going on 85 south of Newnan?

Brian/SIU Bound - Glad to have you join us! I will say I feel a deep sense of responsibility that you first ever RV camping experience will be with this group!?! Please don't get the idea that all campers suffer our afflictions.
Actually, you will have a fantastic time - get there whenever you can. And keep in mind - one of the coveted raffle prizes might be right up your alley - so to speak.
And don't worry about the traffic - you should have no problems going anywhere in the Atlanta area...

Brian, glad you'll be camping with us! If I can tow through downtown Atlanta during rush hour, I know you can. I've done both 75/85 and the East perimeter. It's not bad especially if you're familiar with it. No experience with the West side though.
Brad, I'm in for the pavillion and the Saturday evening meal too. Tofu, zuchinni steaks, and corn-on-the-cob for me! I might finally get to experiment with my pineapple-upside-down cake recipe in my dutch oven.

Alan, you're on site 44 for Saturday night, leaving Sunday. I'll give you a call later this evening, if you're going to be home.

May I call dibs on taste-testing? You know, first dibs, next dibs, and last dibs.

If I become really inspired, you might even get dibs on a batch of fresh dutch oven biscuits!
WARNING: I'm still new to this dutch oven cooking "thang". There may be some burnt offerings . . .

Need inspiration? I know a guy. He once talked about 'thangs'.

Brian,
Another option to beat the traffic...
You guys are more than welcome to bring your Airstream down to Manchester the weekend before the rally and practice semi-boondocking on our property. Leave it there until the next weekend and you are only 40 miles from Lake Harding. You can use state route 85 south to get to Manchester and a few miles from the farm.
