Ohhhhhh, I can smell them from here!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the peep at what's to come. Our bulbs are only showing a couple inches of green, which may burn to brown before the temps are really warm enough for them. By the way, in the middle of our cold March, we heard spring peepers the other night, over on the far side of the pond. I'd think they'd have frozen off their tiny froggie toes, but I guess not. Beautiful pics, Codybear ~G

Wow Cody Bear - after those beauties I don't dare post what is going on here right now....it would put a chill to the born clear through!!!

~G I love the Peepers!! with backing onto a sizeable marsh here the orchestra is actually deafening some nights....but it is always a thrill to hear the first ones of the year....

Last night we saw one of the first owls back - my little camera was out of battery with no back ups and the new one not out of it's box yet But what a beautiful sight he was and sat on a perfect branch of one of the Hemlocks in clear view.

Haily the Golden gets spooked at anything that has things that look like eyes and new in the yard - so you can imagine the barking that went on when we put her out... I don't think she has ever seen one before...

Okay more stories of the first signs of spring that each of you look forward to

Shari - I thought you would have posted your pretty pinks by now

Yep we got it!!!

Hi, Carol; We got that foot of snow and are still getting it a day and a half later. Wow this is something. Not living in the snow belt, we are not used to this kind of dumping. I was thinking of sending it up to Ontario, did'nt GT1963 say that they wanted a little winter fun.
Thanks for the flowers Codybear, kind of reminds me that springtime is so near, but yet so far away I need binoculars to see it.

Bob

Hey Paula thanks for the breath of fresh air and gorgeous spring flowers!! Beautiful and so longed for here. G. and Sharon you call frogs peepers? Poor Bob is snowed under and I am just hankering to get this change of seasons on with the show and out with the snow.

Sharon cute frog and I laughed out loud at the caption. My nic naks have that same protective coating on them too. Already putting the new camera through its paces and nice results!

Now where is that picture from ... Shar....iiiiii

Sharon, I think your frog must be a first cousin of our little peepers. Yes, Carol, the first shrill peeping marshland frogs we call Spring Peepers. They meet their sweeties around the margins of our pond and in our grassy spillway. I've no idea if that is their "real science" name or not, but it's the term I"ve grown up with, and it seems Sharon has too. She is right, in numbers they can grow so loud that their song can interfere with thinking! Not unlike the Cicadas of August. I commiserate with all of you trying to get out from under your snow loads. I think we are lucky because several forecasts of snow and sleet have faded away into nice rains. Our pond is finally full, the peeps have sung, the daffydills are emerging and spring may be just around the bend Oh, ...that's right...we live in Missouri where the weather changes every minute or at least each time we look out the window! Well, one day the air will turn soft and smell all earthy, and it really will be Spring. ~G

We have heard the deafening chorus of frogs while camping, they are so loud!!! You have spring too, ahem Where's the spring good witch of the East!!!! (clicking my ruby red shoes three times) not working...

Loving all these cute figurines you gals have!!

Sharon, that is not Vincent Price, here's a slightly bigger picture. It is Fahey Flynn a radio and television Chicago newscaster and anchor, 6 time Emmy winner and became part of the highest rated broadcasting team in by 1971. That avatar picture was probably taken in the late 50s or early 60s.

Been working on Birdie and the yard all day (our snow is 95% gone! But more will be on the way, I'm sure). Today was one of those days where we just came in to pee & eat.

I have to get our album and scan them...they were taken before digital (teeheehee) As a matter of fact, we couldn't afford to even have a video of our wedding...they were so expensive back then and we didn't know anybody with their own camera so we have a cassette tape recording ~

Going out to jacuzzi then off to bed ~ I'll try to post them tomorrow.

Shari

Speaking of Pretty in Pink and female Presidents We have passed just hours away from International Women's Day. Campaigning for change...100 years!! International Women's Day has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike. Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements. While there are many large-scale initiatives, a rich and diverse fabric of local activity connects women from all around the world. The United States even designates the whole month of March as 'Women's History Month'.So make a difference, think globally and act locally !! Make everyday International Women's Day. Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.
International Women's Day 2008

Or in other words ladies...

WE CAN DO IT!!!!!!
