Rocky Point Mexico

I go to Mexico every year with a same group of friend to kick back and relax. It's always the weekend before Memorial day. And we stay at a trailer park on the ocean called Playa Elegante. This year is no exception however most of my friends will be renting a condo down the beach versus staying at the trailer park with trucks, tents, motorhomes and such. (I'm the only one with a travel trailer much less an Airstream)

It's a laid back group. Anyone can come down. (And frequently people do) So I am putting it out there is anyone wants to join in you are most welcome.

The park has full hooks ups and coin op showers. The park is right on the beach, so walking to an ocean is done daily. Most every place accepts US dollars, so exchanging is not necessary. Cost per night is $15 I think. The space is double wide and about 35 feet long. Picture white sand, sunny skies, jumbo shrimp, with your favorite beverage!

I will be going down Wednesday night 5/18 and staying untill Sunday(5/22) at noon. If this sounds like something you would like to join in please contact me. I am going to make reservations in April. (You could come with out reservations and still get in. You just may be 100 feet away from the water)

Rocky Point Mexico is about 215 miles from Phoenix. The border crossing is very EZ. Mexico just doesn't want you to bring in guns, gas or building materials.

It's not really a rally. No one is really that formal. So If you are interested and/or want more data drop me an e. If no one else shows, I have no problem being on the beach with my expecting wife!

Action, Sounds like fun I won't be making it to the area during that time frame but I am coming to the Tucson / Phoenix area in about 3 weeks. Can you give any suggestions for good campgrounds in both the Phoenix and Tucson area?

A little clarification. Rocky Point is the Gringo name for Puerto Pensco MX. The border crossing is at Lukeville AZ and Sonoyta MX. Rocky Point (RP) is about 60 miles from the border to the water.

It is also located in the free zone of Mexico. So no passports or special permits or fees. Special Mexican insurance is required. I buy mine on line for the days that I need. It covers my van and trailer. Costs are about $20 total for 4 days. It is based on value and my van isn't worth much except to me. To get back in the US all I have ever needed is a AZ driver's license. Evidence of citzenship is the requirement. And no one has asked for that either. If you were concerned bring a copy of your birth certificate. Altough I have had my A/S searched at the inspection station in the US. The US customs are looking for illegals and drugs.

The Mexican people are very friendly. A smile will communicate more than anything else. Knowledge of Spanish would not be required however it would help. The cost of services used to be much cheaper, however as with anything supply and demand has impacted this smalll fishing village to a tourist destination. Many new vacation homes and resorts have been built in the last 5 years. RP also has several communities of US citizens living there year around. I sometimes think RP has been unoffically adopted by Arizona because of the number of Arizonan's that go there. Fuel (gas or diesel) is not the best quality there and it's getting better. Actually diesel is likely to be better quality than the gasoline. I usually fill up in Ajo or Why AZ. I have 2 tanks and it lasts till I get back to AZ.

RP is known for their shrimp and other sea food. Best months are from September to April for a good catch. Fresh sea food is brought in daily at the fish market. And again fresh shrimp of all sizes will be in abundance.

My parents *love* the Chiricahuas and camp at the National Monument often. The Monument is east of Tuscon (dry camping):
http://www.usparkinfo.com/chiricahua.html

Also check Tonto National Forest which is east of Apache Junction, which is east of Phoenix (also dry camping):
http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/recrea...wCamping.shtml

In the Mesa and Apache Junction area there are many, many choices in campgrounds as this area is Snowbird Heaven. These camprounds are walled in and gated, have full hookups, pools and planned activities.

Oh, on my life list of places to camp:
www.theshadydell.com

They have 13 full hookup sites and Bisbee is a great funky town to explore

I guess I hadn't thought of in city camping. There is a street in Tempe & Mesa called Main street. There are about 100 places to pull in for long or short term. Moving further East on Main to Apache Junction (AJ) there are still more places to hook up. All of those are will full utillities.

Tonto will be pretty this time of year cause we have had so much rain. The desert is a blooming.

Picacho Peak near Tucson should be nice also.

And the biggie near Ca. is Ehrenberg on I-10. It is most likely winding down cause a lot of snowbirds are leaving soon. Limited amount of facillities with services.

I'm in beautiful New Boston, New Hampshire

But my folks are in AZ and use to live in Gold Canyon when they first ran away from home 16 years ago. They decided to move to unincorporated Pinal County right outside of AJ about 7 years ago when Gold Canyon started to get built up. So, if you are traveling down route 60 you would turn onto Mountain View (just before Silly Mountain) to get to their neck of the woods. Many horses and free spirits are to be found there. And what a view!

PS; My Avatar shows our Airstream in my parent's backyard. Not too bad for boondocking

Thanks for the suggestions looks like we will be off to a rainy start for our journey but at least the snow is melting ! You mentioned that you have your unit there. How long does it comfortably take to get there from New Hampshire?

DEO,

How long does it take to get "there" from New Hampshire?

What is the there you are referring?

Gold Canyon AZ or Rocky Point Mexico? It's about 2750 miles from New Hampshire to Gold Canyon. It's about 3000 miles from New Hampshire to Rocky Point Mexico.

I was just trying to get a feel at how long it has taken others to do the trek from New Hampshire to Tucson (or there about). I am about to take the trip from Massachusetts and was just wondering how long it has taken others. Last year I did Boston to Orlando FL in about 2 days so my guess is this trip should take about 4 -5 days without pushing it too hard (assuming I drive around 10 - 12 hours / day).

From Ossipee NH to Tucson AZ 2660 miles. 11 hours a day driving time at posted limits not exceeding 65MPH. 3 days 11 hours.

Hope this helps.

4 1/2 to 5 Days

My folks have made this trip many times with their Airstream(s) and it takes them 4 1/2 to 5 days, each day with about 10 to 12 hours of travel time.

Action; It's a small world, I own a vacation home in Ossipee NH

And ....

Assuming $2.35 a gallon for fuel and 10 city 15 freeway driving the costs will be about $425.00

I have a M/S streets and trips that I use. It picked Ossipee, cause I didn't know the city in NH.

However, I do get to Vermont every couple of years. My wife's family still lives in the Burlington area. It is nice in the summer or fall. I wouldn't want to be there when the snow flies. Being from Detroit I am allergic to snow!
