Norby, are you professionally trained? A real chef?

What you say is actually simple but true.. if the table is set with all bland food, I can't eat. If I see something not right, I can't eat. The older I get, the worse I get.

A garnish can make all the difference! Or else it's comfort food time, for me..

the potluck we had was the best one I have ever seen, and people REALLY were imaginative!

Don't know if the hyperlink will paste correctly. You may have to search the number at Ebay.

Maybe next year?
Glad to see you there Bill. I've already started thinking about next year both from a weekend event basis and for the week long rally. If anyone has some thoughts, please place them on the table.

Thoughts for future rally's...

300 miles is at the edge of my range for a weekend event -- of course, most of you are clustered in Chicago and in Missouri, so I understand that it should be centered around where most of us are...and as the girls get older, the range will increase...but it is not a complaint, just a logistical detail I am sharing.

I thought the venue was perfect, because we had no time for anything outside the event (like seeing local sights, and stuff like that). We had time to take care of individual camp logistics, doing the tours and the potluck, and such. If there was a rich local environment (such as the weeklong trip) then we would feel like we missed something -- as it was, we enjoyed the rally and the campground...and felt like we got to see everything there was to see as far as the campground and the local stuff.

In fact, the event had enough people and airstreams that I did not get to talk to everyone, and I felt I did not get to go into enough depth concerning subjects and such -- it was a very busy busy time -- not a complaint, just an observation -- next year, the weekend event will probably double in size again. You had to be very agile to soak in what everyone had to say and seeing the trailers and such....I guess what I am saying is that if it goes through a couple of more doublings, then a few organized discussions might make things easier for people to prioritize their time there...

Nothing heavy -- something like:

2:00 -- shell off restoration discussion at Jack's site.
-- Camp Cooking -- Norbert's site.
-- Airstream Customization -- tincanluv's site

Just thoughts to stimulate discussion...

-R

Here's a thought. How about considering Indiana be it central, west Indiana or central-west Indiana? Might make it a bit easier for folks on the east side. Not sure how many more miles that adds to our freinds west of the Mississippi.

I know

How about holding it at the Casino Queen RV site in East St. Louis. There would be plenty to do if ya get bored....Gambling....very dangerous for me...
But close!

I too thought the surroundings were great. And now that we all know where the turns are in town to get to MVSP, you can't go changing it. As Hohne said, if there were sigts to see, other than our pretty airstreams, it would have been too distracting.

I have to agree, there was plenty to see and do at the camp sight. I plan on coming in on Thursday night next time. That way I will have time to get to talk and get to know every one better. I know I missed just about everyone more than two camp sights away from mine. The kids may have more to do with that though, that and the humidiity......

I don't know whether this is possible, but ...

... are there any venues that would be more suited to having fun with the dogs? A fenced area for playing or something? I hated keeping Osita tied up, on a leash or inside for two whole days with absolutely no romping time. We went for a run Saturday afternoon just to work off a little energy, but that felt near fatal.

Personally I have no problems with the existing location but Twink, if you have some ideas's I'm game to listen. To be honest with everyone the midwest is a big area so it's not beyond that someone could pick up the ball to organize another weekend rally at a different time that could be geographically attractive to some of the other midwest folks. With work and my schedule I'm pretty much limited to putting any more irons in the fire for me.

As noted as this thing gets bigger it gets harder to get around to visit everyone but with success comes some problems. Obviously we can only tour trailers so long since I can guarantee you mine won't change next year....but trying to stay in the mode of simplicty I don't want this to become a chore for all. We will talk about this early next year to see if someone wants to put on some kind of seminar, I think we could consider it. The weekend passes pretty fast though. I still would like to do a movie night.

Weather is always a crapshoot. Last year it was great. This year was the heat and humidity. Early June is a pretty good time of year most of the time. Earlier in the spring gets you into active weather. Summer is fine....if you go north (shameful plug for Mackinaw City). Fall is a great time but the kids are in school and its a long time to wait for us to meet up.

Talking Moraine View

Moraine View is great for us; we can not travel much further and had to almost pull TEETH to get some time off THAT weekend.

The people who run the camp site were GREAT to me.. the little guy running around on the golf cart got told by his wife that he is NOT the Sheriff and he doesn't need to worry about our truck parked in the site we paid for for Friday(and didn't put our unit in) past 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

She told him that no one would probably want to move in to the middle of all thiose silver trailers, anyway, unless they ALSO had a silver trailer :-)

It's a nice drive, a VERY pleasant park, well kept up, except for the food that the "raccoons" flung and that guy running through the woods.

Hmmmmm.

Nothing really sticks out in my mind...just thinking of an alt solution for some in the Ohio, Michigan area. For us, it makes no real differnce be it in IL or IN. The distances are fairly similar.

I drove up to Illinois Beach State Park the other day, it's just gorgeous. Imagine hosting a rally there, just steps from sand dunes on the shores of Lake Michigan.

I guess that's pretty close to what the Mackinaw rally is!

Brad,

Illinois Beach State Park is not a good place to camp. It is pretty, but two things now have turned us off about it.

1) It's urban camping...very urban. Lot's of teenie boppers and rif raf in there.

2) It is one of only 2 State run campgrounds in Illinois that charge $20/night as they claim it's a premium place...maybe the view, but the trailer trash it brings is at times pretty bad. 2 out of 3 trips there in the past 12 months have had conservation police out hauling drunkn' and/or drugged up kids in tents.

Now I fully agree that it's a pretty place, but for roughly the same distance, I am sure you would much more enjoy Chain o' Lakes State Park. Fee is less, not as much rif raff, larger and in a more quasi rural setting. If you go west instead of east on that road (don't recall it's name-- thinks it's Rosecrants) that you take off 294 going to get to Zion, you'll find Chain o' Lakes.

We both like the Chain 1000% more than Illinois Beach.

Can you tell how I really feel!
