Rally Redux, Trout Lake 2006
My trio is playing at the Trout Lake Arts Fest July 15 and 16 - near Mount Adams. Last year we went as well and camped at a local county park - it was lovely - a little rugged - sort of state parkish. The festival is small and charming - at a historic B& B/farm.There are ice caves nearby you can tour and it's at the foot of mount Adams.
Here's a link to the festival http://www.troutlake.org/arts/
Wanna do it again? We could bring the big cooking gear and maybe we could do something really simple like a Weenie roast or BYOM barbeque.... and breakfast...or?
There are fabulous river runners activities locally and great kayaking as well..... wanna rally?

Totally in for that! Of course, we'll be at Silver Falls hopefully on July 4th weekend (if we get a few more folks signed up). But Trout Lake was a blast last year, so definitly count us in!

Rally calender
Is this going to be added as a forum rally on the rally calender? Or stay as a thread without a signup list?

Not this year
Janet and Stephanie, sorry that we will miss the Trout Lake rally this year. We really enjoyed it last year. I have a company picnic in Canby that weekend and just can't go. We will be at the rally in Salem. Maybe we will see you there.
I washed our Airstream yesterday during a lightning storm. Didn't seem like a real good idea, but it was dirty.

Hi Ron & Christie, sorry you can't make it this year. You can report back to us on the Salem rally, we'll be skipping it.
That lightning storm was crazy yesterday! I would have let the rain rinse the AS off and stayed indoors

Hey the trout lake rally is getting closer. I am heading up on thursday night and should arrive Friday somtime. Is everyone still going?
I just got back from Yellowstone. Had no idea I could get 15.5mpg towing at 75mph through idaho.

Hi folks,
We would love to join you, but don't think we can make it all the way to Washington in a couple of weeks... it sounds really enjoyable! Maybe if you do it again next year.... we will be with you in spirit! (enjoy some spirits and think of us...

Soon to be traveling in our S Tardis! Yippie! Not quite everything finished, but getting there ~ certainly ready to travel.

Still going.
Let's do a weenie roast on saturday night. I'll bring kosher dogs and buns and fixins. Everyone can fill in around the edges with sides or desert.
We can bring some sunday b-fast stuff too. Grill, eggs, ham and taters

Heads up hardy campers!
The Guler County campground is reluctant to hold a spot for us this year and they've raised their rates - $18.00 per night. The accommodating attendant no longer works there.
So.... I've been on the phone and tracked down some alternatives. One of the more interesting ones is a place called Hollenbeck Park. It's at the end of an airstrip - and right on the river. They have a swimming hole and fishing. They also have a group site available - with trees and a fire pit. It used to be an old orchard and is extremely laid back.
There are pit toilets, city water, picnic tables and ONE electrical hook up at the group site. It's a couple of miles from town, they will hold the space for us and it is really quiet and remote. It's reportedly beautiful.
I'd really love to check this place out as a possible rally site for a larger - more organized event (think parked in a circle). They evidently rent this space out for weddings and family reunions and it's NOT KOA.
If we want to move, I'll get directions and post. Could be fun - wanna have an adventure?
Here is another option - and they take reservations .. http://www.elkmeadowsrvpark.com/sitemap.html They still have some spaces - but maybe not together - but if only a few are going - this might be an option.
So.... vote now. let me know asap.

Hollenbeck Park
I'm game, It sounds better than the elk meadow place. I had enough of those style campgrounds in west yellowstone.
Does Hollenbeck park have a dumpstation.
Also should we bring some extention cords so we can daisy chain for battery charging?
I vote Hollenbeck park.

mee too!!! BTW, I think Darol and Butch & Beth (remember them from BG Lake rally?) are coming too. It'll be great if we can all be in a group area again.

Cool - I'll call them back and have them hold the space. Is anyone coming thursday or should I have them reserve friday, sat? I'll also get detailed driving directions.
They do not have a dump station, but the county park a mile down the road does. They do have a wash water disposal.
Stef - can you get hold of your friends who are coming and let them know about the venue change?
Jonathon - we'll bring a small generator... just in case.

Area 33 - more farm-less park.
33 Mt Adams Rd.
Owners:Zoe and Gerald Wood
Directions: From Hwy 141 North bound - Mt Adams Hwy - Bear right at Chevron Station (road splits) in town and go about 1/4 mile across creek. fair warning - town is hard to recognize - a small market or two - that's all. This intersection is near the County campground
- Left at 4-way intersection - look for sign to park, go about 300 yards down driveway
- Right at sign to Hollenbeck park
- Right at Green Gates - go down somewhat bumpy road - sometimes gravel
- Drive down old runway 1900 ft (see hanger on left) -at the end of the runway cross irrigation ditch.
- Camping to the left - we get the area with the fire pit and picnic table.. Please be careful about water spigots.
Just go ahead and park. One of the owners will come by on a small motorbike to collect. They do not take plastic! Checks OK.
Dumping: there is no dump station here - but the County park - seen on map quest link does have a dump station. You may dump "not too gray" water out of the way. Don’t ask - don’t tell.
This place is not in any phone book and the directions are kinda like a treasure hunt. I spoke with several folks in Trout lake about this place - they say it's lovely and some what "unimproved". The owners work at day jobs and do not advertise. Some portion of this land is a working farm.
here's a mapquest map
