Talking Rallies for M - F working class in SoCal

Would like to see weekend rallies (leave Friday night, return Sunday afternoon) of interested Airstreamers in So Calif going out into the desert (winter months only.... ), usually out past the Palm Springs area. I have been doing this for several years and it is the greatest!!! Cool days, terrific sunsets and sunrises and excellent climbs up mountains and campfires. A small few of us have telescopes we bring for the nights as intertainment.
Anyone have an interest in doing this?
You can also email me direct at gnorgan@pe.net
I live in Hemet, California. My wife and I both teach and currently have teens living at home (Senior and Junior in high school) so families are fine. They really enjoy these trips, too.
We go way out where nobody is right next to you. Have solar panels for energy needs. Makes for a great weekend of relaxation.
Reason for this? We work so cannot make the regular Airstream rallies.....usually too far away. Our trips take us out less than 3 hours away.
Let me know if interested.

Talking

We're game. We are in Bellflower (near Long Beach). I'm not sure about "off the grid" issues, but I'm sure with a little planning we could handle it.

Anyone else?

Cool No Fees

BTW....we charge no fees other than Joshua Park entrance fee or fees if we end up in a BLM location. Otherwise, it's FREEEEE!
Mandatory requirement: have fun and bring some toys

Sounds like fun. We spent a couple of days in Anza Borrego last winter when the weather was bad along the coast. The desert is really beautiful in winter.

Wish we had some rallys like that

I'm retired, but I still work part time and my wife still works full time. I would welcome some short rallys like that. Seems most of WBCCI things are geared to the totally retired who can get away for longer periods.

I am new to this forum, so I hope this posts properly. We are in Anaheim Hills (eastern Orange County) and would definately have an interest in short trips to Desert area Fri-Sun. Do not have Solar, but have boondocked for this period by being careful with power/water.

Door prizes

That is a nice gesture Andy. I'm sure those able to make the rallys would like that.

Oh Yeah!

I would love to participate, even though my schedule is a tough one to predict. I get a lot of "lastminutegottahevitnoworelse" situations, so please keep me posted if a trip gets planned. My wife and I have fun camping off the beaten path, usually Baja California. Boondocking is not a problem.
Thanks for the door prize offer, Andy. Maybe you could make a cameo appearance and flip some burgers, how about it?

Sounds great to me. But instead of Burgers, I would be happy to fix some of my special "Tri Tip" or maybe my "Brats."
In either case, dessert would have to be my "Key Lime Cheesecake."
Let me know when, at least a few days ahead of time.
But, this weekend is out.
It's that one day a year we all enjoy called the "B" day.
Big milestone for me, this year.
Another decade, under the belt.

As our camping season is winding down in the next couple of weeks with the snow having fallen in the local mountains, I am reflecting back to our BA (Before Airstream) days in CA.

About 10 years ago, we left CA very rarely to look back...you guys and this "weekend-get-together" are making me do that now! We would love to attend...but it's abit too far for a "M-F slaves" trip for us!

We'll be there in spirit and anxiously await photos ~

Shari

P.S. Happy decade Andy!

Thumbs up SoCal Winter Desert Camping

It looks like we have a small group forming...and growing in numbers.....around 7 Airstreams so far. Is this a "flotilla" or an "armada"? Maybe an initial trip to Joshua Tree, Cottonwood campground, would be in order first? Just a thought because I don't yet know how far all these people would be willing to drive off-road. I've been off road along solid dirt roads as far as 7 - 10 miles, driving slowly of course, several times in the past years. Not a problem as long as one is not in a hurry. But some might not want to venture too far off road so I am suggesting Joshua Tree as a beginning for a large group as the road in is all paved. Cottonwood is one of two that has a dump station (costs $12 per night, though), and water and regular toilets, etc. Plus the hiking around there is excellent and the night sky is usually very good.
More later.

Hey y'all,

I will be in Pasadena for the Rose Parade Rally with Region 12 WBCCI from 12/28 - 1/1/03 . I could make a trip to Joshua Tree after the parade. - Ray
