Problems with Balloon Fiesta RV Park

I looked (unsuccessfully) for the thread about the FCU Balloon Fiesta Rally and coudln't find anything, and this seems pretty important for anyone planning to camp at the balloon fiesta park in Albuquerque--regardless if you're going to the rally.

There are some serious electrical problems at the RV park, and, according to the Albquerque Journal this morning, there are concerns it won't be available for camping.

However, to summarize other stuff in the local news. A report on the tv last night said that because the balloon fiesta RV park brings in over $100k to the city the city is really scrambling to figure out how to fix the problem and may even bring in giant generators as one possible solution. So, while the ABQ Journal says that the park might not be open, another report says the city is going to do everything in its power to make sure it opens.

If you go to the Rally calendar and look in October you will find the thread. I believe that we are boondocking so the lack of power should not affect our camping situation.............of course if they don't have power at the fairground that could make it difficult to hold the event

Good Lord, who would want to camp on top of an LA dump. Guess Ill think twice before camping on a hill.

I wanted to get the word out to the Forums in general in case some people might be making plans to attend the Fiesta but not necessarily be part of the rally. Even the people planning on boondocking might be impacted because of the ripple effect of others not being able to hook up to power wanting the "less desirable" boondocking sites. It is staggering how many RVs show up for Balloon Fiesta. They start pouring into town weeks before the Fiesta.

The local electrical issue is in the campground, located on the south side of Alameda, across from the park.

Our campground and all the other Balloon Fiesta facilities are located north of Alameda.
