That sounds like fun! I'm running a meeting Thursday night, or I'd be there with you.

Good comment re getting gas in Hollister ... I seem to recall that there's a camp store that has typical camping food provisions, so if you left the peanut butter or milk home, you'll probably be able to get some here.

We are headed there on Wednesday, as well!

Btw.... If you have the need for Internet/cell phone coverage, you will likely need to drive about 10-15 miles outside the park. Sometimes it's nice to be disconnected, but Hollister is a good place to make that one last contact! :P

On another subject....the electrical was not reliable when we were there last spring....with just a few of us in the RV loop, our breakers were getting tripped constantly on the 100-degree days! We shouldn't need AC, so maybe the system will be okay on this trip.

I just spoke with the Park Office and fire restrictions are still in effect. They said they haven't received any rain. If you have a propane fire pit, you may want to bring it as those are OK to use.

I just checked with the National Weather Service and the forecast is dry with sunny afternoons in the middle 60s and overnights upper 30s. Great weather for my first rally. See you all soon.

Hey Doug,
Being from Fresno myself and looking at your profile, I figured you out and know you have the inside scoop on the weather conditions. What's your 7-day forecast looking like?

The campground has very limited contact hours during the week. Anyone know if a tent is allowed in RV sites? My dad is a tent camper and interested in coming along. He and his wife are newly retired and are considering building/purchasing a teardrop trailer. I think this is the right group to introduce them to the RV lifestyle.
We're super excited for this trip! The TT come home tomorrow night and Wednesday is 'get ready' day.

I've had good luck calling the Visitor Center a couple of times at 831-389-4485.

The rules are pretty basic and don't say anything about tents in RV sites, either with an RV (yours) or in a site of their own. There are rules about not plugging your RV into restroom outlets (sigh, who would do that?) but tents seem to be welcome everywhere. If they are coming in a different car and planning to camp with you, they might need to park their car in the parking lot, since D loop sites don't have space for two vehicles. There are several walk-up sites in the loop if they want a site to themselves.

Try to call if you want to be sure. But I for one would love to have them with us.

I just got thru. Tents are allowed in RV sites.

Barbie, I told my dad all about you! He is a retired school principal and his wife was an English teacher. She is also into fiber arts and recently purchased a loom.

Looks like the Balconies cave is open and it's a fairly straight forward hike from the end of the road. Would love to try my hand at spelunking.

We'll arrive mid-day Thursday. Looks like the weather will be amazing.

Were thinking of heading down early, you think they will check us in before 1?

Probably. I hardly think the sites will be full and checkout is at noon, so the sites should be empty by late morning anyway.

I'll be heading out between 10 and 11, trying to sneak our the gap between the morning commute and the lunch rush, so 1 pm is about when I'll be landing there. The Peninsula is a lovely place to live, but it takes a minimum of an hour to escape the Bay Area, in any direction except the ones where you run out of land.

Bart has to go to work, so he'll be coming down on his motorcycle and arriving after dinner. I'll have some finger food edibles that I'd be happy to share in the evening. I'll set up our extra table near our trailer in site 91 and see who stops by for a nibble and a glass of wine.

Jeff, the last time I went in October I got there early and it was no problem. I never even had to check in. The ranger just told me to go to my site. If there is someone in your site when you show up, there are plenty of places to park and hang out until it's available. We should be getting there late morning or early afternoon depending on Jan's work situation.
