Here's a quick photo gallery of our reconnaissance trip to Pinnacles from yesterday to today. I'll post a few individual highlights in a bit.

Nice photos, they reminded me of all those crazy squirrels that live under the trees. And my wife just reminded me the front goucho is ripped out of the caravel. I better put down the beer and get to work.

Notes about the campground: There is water available and the hose bibs are threaded. But temps in February may drop below freezing and it's not unusual for those pipes to freeze. Bring your own water and heat.

The sites are all pretty close together in a meadow with oak trees and views of the hills. I heard quail this morning and saw a flock of wild turkeys.

The cave is pretty open, so it doesn't feel dank, but the stream runs through it and it might be wet going in February, if we get some rain. Bart made it the whole way through the cave without seeing any bats. I stuck around the exit a little longer and got to see a couple flying out at dusk. It's hibernation time so they don't fly out in huge flocks.

The tree in the last picture I posted might serve as a nice gathering spot for potlucks or other gatherings. It's a lovely place. I'm eager to get back there.

Barbi and Bart, thanks for having fun and checking out the Park! John and I have been there a couple of times , but never camped...should be a great time of year to go...a bit greener with all the rain we are going to have (Optimistic). It seems like we are going to have a great group of Streamers and I am so looking forward to this event! Can not wait to see the caves and all the natural beauty of the place, and to share time with all the people who will show up!

She said she spoke with you. I think they would really like an Airstream. Maybe I can convince them to buy one and come to the rally!

I suggested that they could just rent the same one again and come join us.

We're filling up the loop. I'll post another map soon.

Nice map, Barbie....much more well-organized than the actual campground! ;-). Sites #103 and 104 have been reserved since you made the map....nobody is admitting to reserving these spots.....yet. I was excited to hear that you did indeed see some bats fly out at dusk from Bear Gulch Cave.

#103 is occupied by friends of Lianne and Kevin and will get posted in the next map iteration. They have an Avion, which adds a bit of spice to the silver variety we already have.

#104 is either a lurking AirForums denizen or someone who's in for a big surprise come February. "Don't look now, Zelda, but I think they've got us surrounded."

Between hikes, birds, bats and hanging out, we should have a fun, busy time doing all that relaxing. The visitor's center didn't have a map of the trails. I'm working on one to hand out at the rally so that people know which trail to take at an intersection and where the restrooms are.

When we were there last May, we picked up a park brochure at the entrance station, located further in along the road you turn off off into the campground. The park brochure has a trail map. And, I believe you can print out a copy of the park brochure from the Pinnacles National Park web site.

It will be great to have an Avion join us! I suspect there are several AirForums lurkers who have reserved sites....
