can't make the February meet up but we are planning on March. need some advice, however. leaving Pinnacles and wanting to head N on hwy 101, after San Francisco, what recommendations for routes might you all have?? avoiding as much traffic as is possible in CA is always a goal, not easily achieved, but definitely do not want to cross the Golden Gate.

thanks.

Sorry you can't make it to the rally!

Leaving the Pinnacles East, i would just take Hwy 25 through Hollister to 101. Not much you can do in the Bay Area about traffic, other than time it right. Depends on what day of the week to time it right. Sunday morning is probably the best for traffic. You can either bite the bullet and take 101 to 880 through Oakland to 580 and back to 101 at San Rafael, or 101 to 680 to 780 to 80 to 37 through Vallejo to 116 and pick up 101 in Petaluma.

I would say the 680 route has less traffic, but is about 15 miles longer, is more convoluted and has more 2 lane hwys. I think both routes have bridge tolls. You may want to check up on road construction in the Bay Area too.

We're heading up to the Pinnacles tomorrow for a four night stay. Super excited to experience this great National Park twice in four weeks.

Let me know if you have reconnoiter requests.

BTW..from US 101 South we take 198 east and 25 north. We prefer 198 over the farm road from King City.

Mid-week January is pretty quiet at the Pinnacles. Everything is very green. Got some work done and took relaxing walks with Susan. Unfortunately I had to forgo hiking while trying to get my injured foot back in shape.

Crews are working on a major revamp of the park's water system. And...many of the D loop sites "bumpers" were moved back 4-6 feet this week. Good news for longer trailers.

It looks like a few spaces are available in Loop A for the rally. It is dry camping and be aware that generators are not allowed.

In addition to gobs of turkeys, we saw condors cruising the ridge this morning, and there is a large group of big fat band tail pigeons....special guests of the bob cats and friends.

Just under three weeks to the rally and I'm getting excited to see the Pinnacles and our Streamer friends again!

Here's the latest map of known Airstreamer locations. I'll have a printout of it as a reference at our trailer in site 91.

We still don't know who has booked space 86 for the rally.

The other apparently empty spaces in A loop are for walkups, first come, first served. They are very nice spots so if you haven't booked or if you've booked but want to move in closer when you get there, come down a bit early and see if these are available.

Hello! Are there any plans for a Friday night meet and greet and potluck on Saturday?
We're excited to visit the Pinnacles again. I really want to hike those trails again. John won't likely be able to hike since he'll probably be mending from his knee surgery that is happening this week. I'll just prop him up under the awning and if everyone who walks by can check to make sure his beer is full, that'd be great!

I just read the campground description on Reserve America. It says there are showers at the campground. Is this true? I don't remember there being showers last year. Can anyone confirm?
Also, in regards to the water system upgrades that John mentioned, does this mean there are water hook ups at the RV sites now? We filled up at home because there was worry that the spigots might be frozen.

The showers are pretty basic Cara. They take quarters. The water upgrades are to the main infrastructure only. There is a standard hose connection labeled drinking water at the entrance to D Loop where you can fill your tank. There are also "slick" hose bibs scattered around where you can use a water thief and hoses to reach your tank. We all have enough hoses to cobble together to work. Temps got into the mid 40s last week. It does get a little cooler at the campground than the weather forecast for Paicines indicate.

Thanks for the info, John! Showering at the campground makes all the difference since we have a small gray. We'll bring the blue boy along.
Our AS has been seeing a number of improvements since last August. Besides the new upholstery and paint work inside, we just replaced the original water pump. It didn't leak but, man, that thing was noisy! And it was getting weak. We also replace the sewer valves...those were leaking! Yuck! We finally got our fridge working on propane. Can't wait to see how our improvements work out although it's making Airstreaming slightly less exciting since we never know what could stop working next. She's becoming a pretty solid rig.
See you all soon!

There will be a potluck at 6 pm on Saturday. It will be under the oak at the back of A loop, same as last year. I'll be staying in camp on Saturday so that I can be there at the beginning of the potluck.

Those who plan to hike to the top and wait for the condors on the High Peaks Trail on Saturday may want to plan a dish with little prep. The condors don't show up until later in the afternoon and it's a long hike back to the parking lot. Ask me how I know.

There will be a Friday social hour(+) but I'm not coordinating it. I'll be hiking up to the High Peaks on Friday and waiting for the condors, so I might be coming down in the dark. Then I'll spend Saturday in camp nursing sore feet and refilling John's beer.

Yes, Doug, Lori, Don and I are handling Friday's meet and greet. We are arriving Thursday so we'll have time to get set up...

More details to come.

I'm hoping to make it, we have a reservation for #17 Loop A but plans are un-certain due to faithful companion's recent surgery. This would be my first rally and I may just go solo so I can meet you all. Hoping to be there.
