Obviously martini's are an out of body experience. As you can see, we are making every attempt to exit.

I sent an email off to Compton Ridge thanking them on being great hosts to us, and also filled them in on areas of improvement. I basically gave them an After action review ala streaming. Planning in progress for the next one.

Anyone ready for April yet?

Berk...never got the pic for the trophy.

yes the rally has ended...

'shaker pulled out yesterday morning...

i left at noon-ish and then there was none.

we did have some rain monday and wednesday...

and the ground/sites held up very nicely to water

no mud really, there is so much rock and gravel and drainage...

next time?

the north section of c.r. was IDEAL for us as a group.

while the main park has more roads, more ammenites and more campers...

it also has more traffic and more noise, fewer trees. less freedom to run amok and less privacy.

i spent a couple of hours over in the main park and we really DID have the best area for us and at 1/2 price!

so going back to north compton in the fall would be nice.

spring?

well i love spring in the 'zarks but would want to try something other than branson...

there are several state parks that might work and some campgrounds closer to rafting...

just in case ne1 wants to play IN the water.

so perhaps some of the folks who live nearby can offer some rally spot options...

and we were almost in ar-kan-saw, so lets include that area.

OK berk and 'medic, enough of making fun of my superhero identity...

beside THIS is how i look most days...

or perhaps like this...

hey how 'bout a back to nature rally? next time....

cheers

I am in on the North Park too...drove through the Main park and I don't think we would have the freedom there that we did in the North Park...

Joe,

I would think that water sports in April will be a tad bit chilly. I thought the ridge would be ideal, but I will look at other spring places..no promises though.

A nice float trip on the meremac would be nice in the summer as there are many spots to float off of Hwy 44 in Missouri (Huzzah, Bass River Resorts, etc).

I think the freedom up in the south park would be there. One of the benefits is that it is truly quieter based on being off the road. The area around the pavilion in the South Park is bigger with more tables and site wise we would be in better proximity of each other without some of us having to navigate the hills.....and you would be able to have your wood campfire. There is also a playground for kids right next to the pavilion. Most of the sites are much more level (those of you on top at the North Park were sitting pretty good), mine was not too good. If we grow bigger, some of the sites left to occupy at the north park were pretty marginal.

Just food for thought and I wouldn't stay away if we did North again, but it might be interesting to try the other side and then decide if we go back to Branson for a third time, which site is better. Personally I've stayed at the South Park and I think it's a better facility overall. You can't however knock half price camping and being the biggest group in the park.

Frog Noise

A six year old goes to the hospital with his grandma to visit his grandpa.

When they get to the hospital, he runs ahead of his grandma and bursts into his grampa's room.

"Grampa, Grampa," he says excitedly, "as soon as grandma comes into the room, make a noise like a frog!"

"What?" said his grandpa.

"Make a noise like a frog because grandma said that as soon as you croaked, we're going to Disneyland!!!"

hey steveo...

the best floating on most of those waters IS march and april....

good flow, not much to portage and no skeeters yet....

and nothing like tipping the boat in 50 degree water to teach better paddle skills!

the other issue is ridge top verse valley camping in the spring....

down in the valley is my choice, but hey it's ALL good.

cheers

Hey Doc, who's that frog standing in front of you?

On our way up, we stopped at Natural Falls State park in Oklahoma (West Salom Springs, OK). Was very nice and the falls were really something... nice hiking and the park was well laid out - easy in & out and campsites weren't condo'ized... Lots of trees (everything covered) and a LARGE, sandy, playground for kids. Could easily also do volleyball, etc., for team games and such in the field there (croquet?). Had full hookups as well as partial (H2O+elec.) and an easy dump station. Very clean and well kept... also had fire rings for each campsite... We had a pull-thru site which was REALLY easy!

We'll definitely keep this one as a place to go in the future. Was about 2+ hours from Branson with no problem traffic.

Only thing is... do state parks allow "adult" beverages?

hey drummer man...

good report i'll look at that park soon too.

adult beverages, where are the adults?

really depends on the state

for example in ks 3.2 swill is ok but not harder things...

some counties in the wild hog state are DRY completely...

i don't know what's OK in oklahoma...

in missouri pretty much anything can be consumed, even frogs....

cheers

RE: Consumption of Adult Beverages.
Ahh the beauty of Missouri. Freedom to destroy your liver however you see fit.

We are always game to go anywhere. As long as our Airstream buddies are there, we are in. Our only limitation is distance. Workin' for a livin' ya know. Have to be able to get to the destination at this point in a reasonable time frame. The car driving/have fun at camp ratio needs to be weighted on the have fun side. Which made this past rally PERFECT!

Speaking of, we are going to Buffalo Point on the Buffalo River next weekend. The arrive on the 25th, leave on the 28th if anyone wants to join us. Very nice campground right on the river. Gonna do day floats. Maybe a horseback ride. Here is the campground link https://www.recreation.gov/ar/Buffal...O&parkId=74050

Evolution. Incredible huh?
