Yeah, really nasty here today with rain. It's 36 degrees right now. My son is in Kansas City and they originally had a forecast of 3 inches of snow. He says it's more like slush out there right now.

Ya never know.

I remember last year at Fort Leonard Wood being a little rainy during October, but hopefully it will be just right.

On the whole, October is usually a delightful time to be in the Ozarks. Nippy enough in the early am to turn on the heat and wear a jacket outside. One of the interesting things, and I'm not sure about the north campground, but Compton Ridge is heavily wooded with oak trees. About the beginning of October the squirrels start to harvest the acorns. Many of the sites have picnic tables which are set up on wooden decks with a roof over them. The roof is metal. About daybreak the squirrels start dropping the acorns and they hit those metal roofs, and sometimes your trailer. Nothing is funnier to watch when our dogs are sound asleep and one of those acorns drops. All four legs leave the ground as the dogs get that rude wakeup call.

Earlier today, I spoke with the owner out at Compton Ridge Campgrounds in Branson, MO. Compton Ridge has been in business for 40 years, and offers a great deal of ammenities including several pavillions to meet at if the weather turns south, or an interior meeting space that will hold everyone in case the pavillion is not enough room.

This campground is split between a main campground, and a northern area campground. All sites are gravel pad, 30 Amp electric, water/sewer, and cable television.

If we book at the north site, all Good Sam Club members will receive 50% off their entire cost (15.00 per night). Pretty good considering that Good Sam membership is only $19.00 right now.

A reservation fee of $20.00 per site is required for holding.

Activities on the agenda are a trip to Bull Shoals, AR to view the site of the first WBCCI Rally, a Chili-cookoff, and fun times to be had by all. This will be my first rally, so I hope I can make it fun and exciting for all of you willing to travel to it.

Please feel free to PM for information.

Steve
Looks good for us. We're going to be there.

Thanks Steve for resurecting this one. It will be a fun rally and WAY TO GO on not just attending your first rally, but, organizing it .

We'll be making our reservations this coming week.

As I was camping this weekend in the Branson area (Branson Campground), I drove over by Compton Ridge North to take a look and make my reservation. Lady at the desk said she had taken other reservations that day and thought there were now about 9 signed up. As Steve said, they are trying to hold all the sites in that area as long as they can for us. Said they had not assigned sites yet as they were waiting to see how many total were coming, so they could try and keep us together. They said, however, they would begin to do so now as it looked like we might take all of that area. The north campground has an open pavilion that would work well if weather is nice. However, inclimate weather would require we trek over to the main campground. There is a connecting road so we wouldn't have to get out on the highway, but it is a little bit of a trek. I have stayed at several of the area campgrounds, but never at Compton Ridge for some reason. However, they always seem to be pretty full when I've went by. Looking forward to seeing you all.

That's pretty cool that you stopped in to check it out. My sister and her fiance live in Springfield, and I had planned on paying them a visit to check the grounds out.

Sounds like we will have our own litte village of Airstreams. Too bad we can't get an ariel photo .

Larger building on the left is the Compton Ridge Motel. Scroll the picture down further and you will see the main campground.

When we get a little closer to the date, I'll post some driving trips. For those of you who will be coming via I-44 and then south from Springfield, there is a new bypass that was opened about 3 or 4 years ago that makes getting to the campground a breeze. Highway 76 through Branson is a nightmare and some of the back roads are not condusive to trailer towing. Get on the wrong bypass and you will encounter some grades that you would never consider pulling a trailer on.

Here is a review I wrote a couple of years back on the main Compton Ridge campground.

Here is a color PDF map of both campgrounds.

Jack,

I actually meant an ariel photo of the rally with all of our trailers sut up in the campground.

If enough people will be coming from the STL area, perhaps we can have a mini convoy down to the campgrounds...that would be cool.

It would be fun. For my side though I'm coming down early in the week, so unless others plan on leaving early, I'll probably be watching you all pull in. It's still nice to see the pictures anyway. That's the first time I tried to see what was on the satellite site had for the area.

Now I remember that they used to have helicopter rides down there. If they still do and you can convince the pilot to alter his flight path slightly, he could take you over the campground for a picture!

Jack,

Don't think I can afford a chopper ride unless it is by the US Army. We are considering coming down a few days early since we would like to have some time with our son doing something fun.

Let me know your schedule and we will see how it matches up.

For the Can Opener Rally in January, the organizers made a map of the campground area and then as each attendee registered, they labeled the sites with name and site number. This really was useful and fun to follow as well as the time for the rally neared. It also helped people to select sites. This might be a neat addition to this thread if someone knows how to do it. Just a suggestion~G
