Best time to go
Yesterday I talked with a person who works a wine tasting booth at the Wine and Seafood Festival in Newport. He confirmed the best day to go is Friday. There are less crowds in the wine and food booths. Saturday brings out the younger crowd and if it's raining, people tend to stay in the booths and drink more wine/beer and get soused, vs if it is sunny, folks tend to move around more and not drink as much. Not sure if that makes sense! Guess we'll have to see. I hope there's a shuttle to/from the South Beach campground to the Festival!

South Beach shuttle
The bus will be available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Admission to the Festival is $9.00 on Friday, $12.00 on Saturday, and $6.00 on Sunday. Friday and Sunday afternoons sound like the times to attend. I asked about bicycling down from South Beach. The C of C did not know of any places to lock bikes down at the Festival, even though it seems like there would be some place to lock your bike. The bus will stop at South Beach State Park at the Hospitality Center, down by A loop.

About a week till.........
.....we rendevous in South Beach. I guess (according to CoastalMe) it's been cold there the past few days (into the twenties).....and will continue to be cold probably thru the weekend. I'll post the 5 day forcast for Newport on this thread when we get closer to rally time. I'll take cold vs rain any day!

Jim just pointed out to me that the Newport theater is doing Midsummer Nights Dream that weekend. Dave wants to go see it. Anyone else want to go with us? If so we can get the tickets all together. I don't know if we'll go for Fri or Sat night. Maybe Friday, since by Saturday everyone will be there and we can all kick back around the fire (assuming we're not rained out)!

What time is dinner Saturday night? Maybe Friday would be a better night for the Theater. I will not be able to go to the Theater. I'll be at the visitor center Thursday from 12:30 -5:30, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 8 - 12:30.
36 degrees, almost 4 PM, on Friday, and the wind chill is way down there! Jim, I'll take the rain to the cold!

If it's 36 degrees the theater might look like a pretty good place to hang out!

As you will see on this site Yurts are not just for the Mongols anymore. Here in the NW you can rent them at State Parks, ski from one to another in the mountains, or buy one for your own vacation property. They are actually quite nice.

Is it ok if we bring some braised pork and a pine nut cake? Or would you prefer chocolate?

Well.... I haven't reserved it.......did anyone else reserve it......how much do they run for an evening/day/whatever.......do ya think we'll need it? We've always been inventive with Gary & Chris's Eazy-ups with side flaps......and we can bring our Fire Dancers! Of course if there's 50 mph winds , then I guess we'll have to try plan B! I'll go to the website to find more info....but I'll bet the yurt's already taken.

You may have to have to bring both so we can try 'em to decide which one we like better!

Chris is our wagonmaster, so he would reserve the yurt. It's included with a group of five or more. I'll check to see if we reserved it.
Guy 99 -and/or? I go for all!
65GT -The Oregon State Parks site has pictures of yurts. The parks have regular yurts! and deluxe yurts, which can have a bathroom and kitchen and other extras. Usually you can have a maximum of eight to a yurt... There are also meeting room yurts, etc.

It's been a beautiful afternoon in the neightborhood
I just returned from some appointments up in Tillamook County. A beautiful sunset, even though it's cold this weekend. Long-range forecast for next weekend is a little warmer in the daytime, and about 20 degrees warmer at night.
See you next weekend!

Wagonmaster ??
lol, I have been called a lot of things but never a wagonmaster.
SO, who wants to yurt it up ? I know we always build our own cover but I have never done the yurt thing.
Anyone want to do the yurt thing ? Let me know before Monday.
I think the weather will be a bit warmer by then at the coast.
I still have F-26 Available. Its only 5 days from the east coast !
When I was in the midwest last summer I noticed they had small cabins instead of yurts. They were really nice.
Cheers, Chris

Dear Wagon master (sir),
How far are the yurts from our camping area? (merlot bottles can get mighty heavy if it's a long hike to the yurt...)
Let me know if we should bring canopy/s
