The weekend of 11/4-8 seems good to us. Is this a 3 nighter? Any less is hard to justify the trip.

Wednesday through Sunday, I figured.
My wife is workin on getting Thursday/Friday off, so we can leave Thursday early, meet with everybody in El Centro, and then go on to San Felipe for Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night. Return day would be Sunday.
Sort of a repeat of the last trip, only I would meet you at El Centro, instead of driving there with you.

Keep checking this thread, we will make sure and announce it with plenty of time for planning. There is plenty of room for appr. 100 units there. Everyone is welcome!

Kid sensitive holidays like Christmas or special days like Halloween are off limits for me. Dirty looks from 7 grandkids would kill me! They want me there, and I love it!

That sounds good. We will go down to Desert Hot Springs on Wed eve. Hook up in El Centro and then on down. We may stretch the way back in one day or stop at DHS again.
I will have my wife request the time.

A Wed evening rendezvous in Desert hot Springs works for us. For others info. it is a straight shot easy drive south to El Centro and over at Mexacali.
Lots of selection of r.v. parks, no reservations req'd. in DHS all with thermal waters.

The ferry trip from Mazatlan to La Paz on Baja is outrageously expensive. I took it about 5 years ago, and it cost $475 for my wife and I plus our little Toyota Pickup. That price was the "cheapie" fair. At Mazatlan, you have to show up about 10:00 AM then about 1:00 PM they direct you to pull your vehicle on the ferry "Aztec". Once your vehicle is parked, you could not return to it for any reason until landing at La Paz. We thought we might be able to sleep in the truck bed, but no way! Up stairs in the salon, most of the facilities in the restrooms were clogged and overflowing and maintenance was absent, at least during our trip. You arrive in La Paz the next morning, so you better not need to use the facilities. Some may say it made me the way I am today!
We love traveling in Baja, but riding the ferry from Mazatlan was one of the most negative experiences I've ever had. On the other hand, the fantastic scenery of Baja and great fish taco's will lure me back some day!
Similar experiences visiting the Copper Canyon. The roads from the Texas border at Presidio to Creel were so rough, you couldn't travel over 40 mph even if you wanted. Our cat "Thomas" even got motion sickness. In some places, 5 mph was too fast. In Creel at the outskirts of the Copper Canyon, prices were at or above US mainland prices. The 56 mile drive from Creel to Divisidero at the heart of the canyon was the best road of the trip, passing thru beautiful scenic areas, but guess what, virtually no pull-outs so you could stop and enjoy the views and take some pictures. And of course when you would like to drive slower and enjoy the scenery, there's always someone behind you wanting to pass or they will surely explode. The train ride must be a much better alternative.

Bob,
I have heard that you can now stay in your RV during the ferry ride. They now even allow you to cook in the RV, as well as sleep. What a great improvement for RV ferry riders. Some day, I plan on riding the Copper Canyon RR, then ferry over to Baja, and leisurely drive up Baja.

Roger:
Did you find a good spot last time in Desert Hot Springs or should we be 'sussin one out?
Sounds like Uwe is going to meet us in D.H.S. as well. Due to the last trip's confusion on what food we can return Stateside I now have a printout of what is o.k.

We liked the place that we stayed at on the way back. They have 3 different pools with different temps. I will track down the name as it escapes me right now. I will call and ask about reservations for 3 but not reserve them just yet.
Looking forward to getting away!

OK. Found the info about where we stayed: Sams Family Spa
The price is a little steep ($38) but it does include use of their pools, etc. They normally charge people off the street $12/person for that. If anyone knows of a different place, I am open to suggestions. I don't think they take reservations so I will call for availability in a day or two.
Uwe, will you bring your generator again? I may bring the satellite dish to keep the daughter a bit more entertained. I have an inverter but I may need a charge or two.
It is about 300 miles for us on this first leg. So 5-6 hours. We are going high desert 'cause I don't want to mess with the LA basin. We hope to be there by 5pm. Or where ever it is decided to stay.
Looking forward to it!

Roger, I will bring the generator. Entertained teenagers are happy teenagers!
I have not decided if we're going to DHS or straight down.
How many hours is ti from DHS to the border?
I figure it would take me appr.2-3 hours to get to Desert Hot Springs from my home.
Let me know what is decided, then I can make a decision.

According to Streets and Trips, it is 117 miles to the border from DSH. Total of 241 to San Felipe. Are you planning on returning home on Sunday?

Roger:
Here's a good looking spot in DHS for $25/ night (2 people). Kids would add $5/ea.

I'll keep looking. What would your ETA be on Weds.?

Yes, Sunday morning early. It looks as though the driving distance from Orange to Calexico is within 10 miles from going Orange-Desert Hot Springs-Calexico. Looks promising. I will have to see how we do on Wednesday, with preparing and packing. Hopefully we can meet up at Desert Hot Springs for the night.

Shrimp Festival
I just checked the weather in San Felipe, looks very pleasant, possibly will warm up after a few cloudy days.

Also, we're in luck! They're having the annual shrimp festival in town while we're there.
