Hi Pink,
I just did a search on this topic and there were lots of hits. Is it that you shade wont stay down once pulled or is it slack? There is even talk about drilling the rivet 
Might be easier to replace. Why dont you post a picture of your situation and a short description in a new thread..

Kathy update
Hi all, Kathy is recovering from her second surgery. She has long road of recovery ahead. The good news we received today was that the pathology tests confirm no cancer!
Try a google search for Appendiceal cancer. This type of cancer is quite rare and can be dormant and rear its ugliness later. We will be keeping an eye on Kathy with CT scans regularly.
She thanks all of you for your prayers and good wishes. Me too!
We likely will not make the Casini rally, but she's a true camper so who knows.
Be certain to see us at Jackson.

ALL of our thoughts and prayers have been answered!  We will miss your presence at Casini but certainly you will be 'there' in our thoughts. May I suggest that your campsite be for the Friday night Social and Kathy's birthday glass raising.

Neil, you know this rally was scheduled for the Saturday night potluck to happen on my on Birthday 
Kathy's b-day is on 4/11, and this rally has landed that date too
