Ok, there's a lot of talk about SPAM in this group. At first I felt a little left out, but now I think there may be something wrong with the way I was brought up.....I have never had SPAM......please don't judge me.

Don't worry, I grew up with SPAM in Hawaii and I still don't like it, won't eat it! Just let them have their SPAM fun and ignore it.

I grew up with Spam, in the 60s. In the 80s, in a punk/retro mood, a friend and I thought it would be funny to try Spam. We weren't laughing for very long. Maybe it's time to try it again? Or maybe from the same cookbook for the pot luck, a casserole, something topped with potato chips?

I really don't want to get sucked into a Spam conversation, but...

Martha Stewart was interviewed on some NPR show a few weeks ago and asked if she ever had it. Said she liked it- and Velveeta if I remember correctly...

That just goes to show that Martha Stewart has a sense of humor!

If any of you out there are serious about making something containing SPAM for any of our gatherings, just be aware that it is loaded with salt....so, don't add any more!

During a WBCCI 4CU gathering in AZ a few years back, our Friday night get-together included a SPAM dish competition. The winner, as I recall, were Clint and Kathy (former AirForums members that were present at Casini a few years back....he was the cartoonist). They cooked up something like enchiladas made with SPAM....and, it was quite good!

btw....Clint and Kathy sold their Airstream and tow vehicle when they were chosen to go to Costa Rica as volunteers to help the locals there. After two years, they returned, and now they are volunteering for Habitat for Humanity....building homes for people in the USA.

At last year's Casini potluck we

made a Hawaiian-style potato/mac salad with Spam. The Spam part was just an "accent," and there was some on the side for those who wanted it straight. Funny, after all the Spam talk, the side of Spam didn't get cleaned out.
We are

officially promising to NOT use Spam this year, so it is open season. Note that now there is even a low sodium and a "Lite" version that is lower in fat and sodium--not sure what is left though.
