Lightweight? Ah, no. You really don't want me running rampant through your beer supply.

I'll bring both units up and you can test, try and measure.

AS Worker Bees

Wow-za! I really appreciate all the worker bees on this site, but is there anyone out there that considers merely lifting a cold glass of whatever to their parched lips all the work they want to do? Cooking and drinking is my idea of fun and you guys can have a "riveting" work party!...OK, maybe I'll watch.

Regarding the Pot-luck dish, put us down for a plethora of Myer lemon bars and some bottles of fermented grape juice from our Sonoma Valley.

Oh, by the way, we stilll have a milk crate and two fold-up chairs where our annoying gaucho was torn out. But we're still coming! We're not proud.

DG - I got ours at a camping store in Phoenix that no longer exists (Popular Surplus). I found this site that has them also.

We also have mini espresso camping mugs...

Report

i failed to mention a few weeks ago then i did my site report in regards to the campground. the deer. hundreds upon hundreds of deer. and as i walked around camp areas A, B, C they were everywhere, and didn't budge an inch as i walked about. so bring ur cameras, and watch the roads on the way in.

i did mention in my report, bugs. bring ur favorite spray, cream, candle, or whatever.

i'm bringing my bike... were going to be spread out, and it's a great place to bike...

i'm thinking of leaving simi valley wed. afternoon and arriving about 5ish. so keep the small children and the animals off the road system. should u spy a 7 foot cowboy wandering about aimlessly, that would be me... (blue and silver trimmed dodge quad cab pu hemi w/ gasp... an airstream in tow)

if there's going to be a roundtable Q & A for the insane, please include me. i wanna know what the meaning of life is... i've come close, and i think Ta-Kill-ya works best...

did u know that bacon, cooked in the morning, drives ur neighboors crazy? it's true, i read it on cnn.com.

i must confess, i have my red numbers (#1808) and have never put them on the trailer. i still, however get the secret handshake and the club gang signs going down the highway. so i'll bring em, and maybe they fly up there...

bring leveling blocks... ur gonna need them.

if ur a fisher, this is a great place for that.

party boat's for rent? u bet...

the end,

kevbo

Hello campers!

The deer are everywhere and are, indeed, way too tame. They will come right up to you and, while cute and cuddly-looking, they are walking condominiums for fleas and ticks which they will deposit around your campsite while loitering for your picturetaking. Lure them to an unused area and play with them there.

As usual, the raccoons are thick after lights-out, so don't do the rookie moves like leaving trash, etc. outside after bed time. They are sure to give you a mess to clean up the next morning.

DOGS: When I was there last time (a few weeks ago) the County was aggressively baiting (poisoning) the ground squrrels which have taken over the area. If you bring dogs, be careful that they not catch a potentially poisoned squirrel to ingest while you're distracted by ta-kill-ya or espresso (either of which would likely distract me!) You might also be well advised to look out for ticks on your dogs as well. They get into the "pockets" like their armpits or around their ears and are hard to see. Once they burrow their heads into your pet's skin, they are hard to remove without breaking the head off ...which is, of course, thouroughly lodged in your pet's skin...potentially causing discomfort, infection, etc.

I keep a jug of ant spray in the trailer. It was purchased at WalMart and holds about a gallon of spray and has a small pump-spray nozzle (like a glass cleaner bottle) at the end of a couple feet of hose. I think it was about ten bucks. You'll find it in the garden section with the rest of the bug sprays. I bring this because a friend of mine wound up with his trailer infested with ants which took him a month to completely kill-off. Now, as part of my set-up routine, I spray around the tires and jacks to keep those dread creatures from infiltrating my shiny aluminum retreat.

The area around the two lakes is a known habitat for Bald Eagles. I see them every time I'm at Lake Nacimiento and have seen them at San Antonio. You won't have to look very hard to see them. They are huge, beautiful birds. Speaking of birds, the Magpies are tame and colorful. They are easy to entertain with small food scraps...watching the blue jays and the magpies battle for a Frito chip is truly comical.

It will likely be in the low fourties at night, and it is not unusual to have frosty roofs in late October mornings. However, the forecast looks really good for the end of the month, so I suspect some great times will be had and enjoyed by all! Do bring warm gear for evenings outside.

I won't be able to camp that weekend, but I might try to run up there one evening depending on how crazy things were at the winery that day. Our tasting room closes at five, but on festival weekends sometimes the crowds linger. Then again, with all the new wineries opening in the area, we may not see much of a crowd at all!?!?

Have fun and be safe!

Robert

Kolarshooter Robert: Thanks for the info on the wine tour, just did one yesterday in Amador county! I'm wondering if a excursion to the tour might be in order? It would be nice if we were able to have a designated driver. Trap or Sheet? Which winnery might we find you? Tim

Doorgunner,
To touch on each of your points...

Amador...I love the gold country. I was stationed at McClellan AFB (Sacto.) many years ago, and loved going up around Amador and Eldorado counties.

Wine tour...Well, the drive to and from the "Greater Paso Robles Area" is about an hour each way from the campsite, so if I was camping out, I'd probably find myself staying at camp. You're on your own for a driver, of course.

I have been shooting ATA trap tournaments up and down the west coast for several years now. I've been lucky enough to win three state-level championships at the Ca State Championships, but have been slowing down a bit the last couple of years...(our 4 y/o daughter takes up lots of time,) but plan on coming back with a vengeance soon...next year??? You can look me up HERE (last name: Nadeau.)

I'm not going to say which winery we own since it would look, to some, like a cheap "plug" here.

Enjoy the lake...the weather here today is absolutely gorgeous!

Robert.

Walkie channel

Anyone want to designate an official channel for the road so we can chat if we sight aluminum ( or get lost) ? There should probably be a separate channel for the campground.
I ditched my Mickey Mouse units ( was that a cheer I heard, Uwe ??) on the neighbor's kids and now have a 10 mile set I'm dying to break in!

Advantix or Advantage for the dogs

works great, we were up there in July and they did not get a single critter on them. If you put it on this week you should be in great shape as it lasts about a month. sincerely Milo and Lucy
