say yes i'll be there!
ok so i am trying to keep this list simple in contrast to dg's mother of all lists coming soon whenever the planets align. say yes, i'll be there. everyone needs to confirm by september so dg has a proper count. full moon on the bluff sounds prettty nice. can't wait.
tom- your welcome and can't wait to meet you and elle!
so since tim and kimber will be MIA, who wants to host the happy hour? hopefully paula will be willing to do another brunch. that was fun.
i leave tomorrow for the sierra then up to lava beds. yipeee!

People even have bumper stickers that say, "Use an accordion... go to prison". Those are people that have never been to the Cotati (Sonoma County) Accordion Festival. It's a riotously good time. Even if you ignore the music, the people-watching is worth the admission price. We go, most years, and picnic.
How can you NOT like something that, at 2:00 each day, gets ALL the accordion players of all ages up on the stage for a gang rendition of "Lady of Spain".
Oh, and they set up a stage and dancefloor for the serious polka enthusiasts. A nonstop hoot!
This year, Dick Contino is the headliner.

Keep making fun of me everyone!
You'll be wondering how you ended up with the spot closest to the latrine!

I recall that YOU snagged the spot with the unobstucted view of the sewer DUMP at Casini....two years in a row.

WRONG NEIL;
I was assigned that spot the first year because my trailer is long! They must really get some rookies at Casini huh.
Hey weren't you the guy that had duct tape on his dump hose? wasn't it leaking?
The entertainment value of an unobstructed dump station view is priceless.I'll be making up my "Flash Cards" for next year. Numbers from 1 thru 9 , as there can be no "10" perfect score at the dump station.
So if you're gonna stay thru sunday at Casini next year, pull up a chair and enjoy the show. I'll probably be adding a degree of difficulty factor to the judging.( always goes up when more than one person is involved) You know me and numbers, counting etc.
Maybe listen to accordion music. See who can do the Poop Polka.

Lawson's Landing?
Anyone ever stay here? If so, what's your opinion? It's a huge private campground at the North end of Tomales Bay.
There are no designated campsites so it looks to be almost perfect for a future Norcal rally.
There are no hookups (they have 2 dumpstaions) so it would be boondocking, but we could essentially pull the "wagons" in a circle, which would be a hoot!
Here's a Google Earth image of the place...it's camping from top to bottom. Maybe Oct '09 would be good...a beautiful time of year for a place like this...no wind.

We have never been or heard of Lawson's. But "pulling the wagons in a circle" sounds like FUN. The only time we do full hookups is at Rallys. But I hear that a few of our friends would never ever consider boondocking. This is NOT a criticism...we all have certain preferences. Boondocking for more than 4 or 5 days for us would be a challenge for us as our poop tank is only 11 gallons and there is no grey tank but so far there has always been a nearby gopher hole. Would we synchonize all our generators to run at the same time I wonder... As for the tank capacity challenge....Where would I be after 70 years if I never had a challenge! In deep s***.

Lawson's Landing at Dillon Beach, CA
This place is less than 30 minutes from our house. We've camped there in the Fall and also at Easter (we had a full moon, calm and warmish evening). It is set right across the mouth of the Pacific Ocean and Tamales Bay. Depending on the weather it can be the greatest palce or the windiest.
The dunes there are spectacular, with a berm of sand between the trailers and the water. You will be boon-docking with the cows and lots of meadow-muffins.
At the South-end of the camp area you will find a plethora of permanently parked Streamline trailers (at least 50!). Marin County as been trying to get rid of them, but they are part of the local community and are well worth viewing before they are hauled off for scrap metal.
Warning: There are absolutely no hook-ups!!!

We have a Tote Tank that could be used and the generator sycnronization just might work. The other thing would be fresh water. I'm sure they have water somewhere, so it may be an issue of having the means to fill a large storage bladder and deliver it to all the trailers. It would be fun and in the spirit of Wally to solve these problems!

Thanks for the great photos Karin! Looks like a great place with a trailer museum to boot. I don't mind cows anymore than turkeys, deer or tarantulas. Meadow muffins make great frisbees. as long as they're dry. I think October would probably be the best time as the chances of wind is much less at that time of year.
Anyway, I dont want to hijack this thread to plan a 2009 rally. I was just curious about the camp spot. Sounds promising for a future rally though. It may take convincing for our hook-up only friends. If there's interest, PM me and if there's enough interest, I'll try to set something up.

As people can camp any where out in the pasture-----
how can you be sure the muffins are cow paddies not people paddies?
Have you devised a testing procedure for this Steve??
It's just that when I sign up for a rally I like to know what kinda s--- I'll be getting into.

Well Dg, generally speaking, only cows make patties. People make piles. But just to be sure we know the difference, I devised this here procedure...
Steve: Hey DG, Look like people s**t...smell.
Dg: Sniff, Sniff...hmmm smell like people s**t.
Steve: Taste.
Dg: Munch, Munch...Hmmm taste like people s**t.
Steve: Must be people s**t. Good thing we didn't step in it.

Ok, I'll weigh in on this: Steve and I and about 40 boondockers or (tenting back then in the 60'-70's) on the sand, sand, sand, cow patties, cow patties!!..of course you know my Steve has to have something to do, and that would be horseneck clamming if there is a low tide..if you have a boat, you can scoot over to the Clam island and get your limit of 10..there used to be a barge that would take folks back and forth to get their clams..then we'd all come back, and have a huge fire and of course a clam bake!..there are a couple of out houses and water faucets spaced sparingly around..it can be a bear to find a spot in the Summer months..there are no reserved spots, only stake your spots deal!..there would be lots of space to circle the wagons, and the little kids would love playing in the dunes, flying kites too, if the winds are kicking!..one or 2 nites max for us for boondocking w/the safari..

On topic
O.K.
Last weekend the horse trainer here took her hubby and the 5er to Jackson. They had a super time , said the place was spotless.
They used the pool, the community kitchen and gas grill and the 2 hot tubs. Everyone there was so pleasant! They even met Missy!
They said the view from the bluff was magnificent at night!
Also there was a Airstream Moho there! It appears that Str8 was on the prowl (I already knew that), They were reluctant to approach the Moho and ask the folks if they knew of me!!! lol too funny, ark ark etc.
So the reports keep coming in and the only problem so far is the lack of shade. The trees are just younguns, and by october we may not be needing much shade anywho.
So that's my report
DG

Its only a 50/50 that my A/S will be ready, because of other commitments. Take me off the list, in all fairness to others who may wish to attend. If my A/S is ready close to the time, I'll let you know.
