Great Rally - Great Food - Great People

We've been home a couple of hours. No traffic problems.... Lots and lots of Rain. Got we both got SOAKED hitching up... of course we forgot to bring rain gear.

Marion and I loved seeing everyone and sight of so many Airstreams. Some we haven't seen in two years and it felt like we just picked where we last talked. Amazing group of folks...

For those of you who got the Friday "Happy Hour" and asked about the how to make the Hawaiian style Chicken Wings. (4.5 lbs of wings gone in 30 minutes...)

I gets the marinade from Costco. Aloha Brand - Mango and Pineapple Marinade.
Technique.
1. Add enough marinade PLUS 1/4 to 1/2 cup Cooking Rice Wine to over wings.
2. Marinade wings overnight.
3. Strain Marinade from wings, and reserve marinade.
4. Preheat oven 350 degrees. Lay wings on baking sheet(s) and bake for 25 mins.
5. Remove from oven and let them rest and cool.
6. Before serving- heat grill to medium hot to hot.
7. Heat reserved marinade in pot and reduce by 20 percent, or to taste.
8. Reheat wings on grill for 4-5 minutes- some char is good.
9. Remove char'd wings from grill and brush with marinade reduction.
10. Serve warm... and they will ask "How did you do them wings...???!!!

Vinny --- Great Shrimp on the Barbie!!!.
Ken --- Can we get the Red Chile Colorado recipe?

Good Luck to Hans, Lily and Hansen on the next step of your amazing journey in pursuit of the perfect Airstream. We're pretty fond of ours too... If you come to San Francisco again please do not hesitate to ring us.

Until the next time.... Ted and Marion.

PS. We're going to Burning Man this year (as newbies...) any of you guys going????

Well done, you guys; you got the Brits on their trip in typical colonial style.

Got to say, awesome food. Loved the meaty red chili, wish I had tried more... you guy know how to put out a spread. A couple of people asked for my flourless chocolate cake recipe- totally easy- I made it Friday morning and it travelled well.

Makes one 8-inch cake
Can be prepared in 45 minutes or less.

ingredients

8 ounces fine-quality bittersweet chocolate (not unsweetened)
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
6 large eggs
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder plus additional for sprinkling

preparation

Preheat oven to 375F and butter an 9-inch round baking pan. Line bottom with a round of wax paper and butter paper.
Chop chocolate into small pieces. In a double boiler or metal bowl set over a saucepan of barely simmering water melt chocolate with butter, stirring, until smooth. Remove top of double boiler or bowl from heat and whisk sugar into chocolate mixture. Add eggs and whisk well. Sift 1 cup cocoa powder over chocolate mixture and whisk until just combined. Pour batter into pan and bake in middle of oven 25-35 minutes, or until top has formed a thin crust. Cool cake in pan on a rack 10 minutes and invert onto a serving plate.
Dust cake with additional cocoa powder or powdered sugar. (Cake keeps, after being cooled completely, in an airtight container, 1 week.) My notes: make it a day or two before, it gets better; I use semi sweet chips and delete 10% sugar;

Thank You All for such a great weekend!! Meeting strangers on the internet is actually turning out to be a lot of fun :~)

I was also one of the "lucky" people who got to pack up and hitch up in the rain this morning - just another part of the Trailer adventure.... The ducks were swimming in the puddles/lakes as Skipper and I were driving away and then the hail started.....

I hope to see you all again
Becky

We're home safe and sound...

Thanks for a fantastic rally this year everyone.. Cindy has never really been into airstreams but hasnt stopped talking about this trip since we got home. (I think they are growing on her now...)

The goodbye from Lili, Hans and Hans x2 was brutal.. tried all my manly tricks to hold it together during the goodbye... no chance...

I overheard some folks walking through the campsites and commenting on our group.. something like, "this must be one of those airstream clubs where they all get together and have these rallys.. I've heard about it before. I want an airstream so we can belong to a club too"

What an awesome experience.. Great food and great friends...

The trailer is drying out with the dehumidifier and tucked away in its tent. It rained all the way home. Lacie got picked up from Camp Bow Wow and was happy to see us.

Lili called me a half hour ago.. They have traveled nearly 400 miles at that point headed down towards LA. I guess the defroster sucks on the motorhome.. it tries to work but with all the moisture inside its turned into a fish tank. A bit tricky driving in the rain. They worked as a team clearing the windows with a towel for Hans..
Lili didnt see Gail on her way out and regrets that...

Thanks again to everyone for making the effort to show up and rally this year.. maybe next year will bring continuous sunshine!

Cheers Vinnie & Cindy

Whoa!

You are missing quite a storm to be in. LIGHTNING, HAIL, HARD rain that's seems that it won't ever stop. Just one leak that we have a bowl under. I know 2 windows leak a little but can't do anything about it now. Just 6 of us still here. We are scheduled to leave Tuesday. We would like to leave tomorrow but we have 2 tents and a bunch of camping supplies to wring out before packing. That may be what we may have to do tomorrow. Tuesday is supposed to be dry...hopefully Monday will allow for packing.

Neil.

The Viking has Landed,
safe at home. What a great rally! Thanks to Gemma & Murray for the kind hospitalty and conversation. The food was incredible, as were the Airstreams and Airstreamers. I wish I had time to meet and greet everyone, and get to know more names. I'll have to keep coming back, I guess!
Hans, Hans, and Lili, I'm so glad that I got to meet you in person. After the last few months I feel that I know you like old friends. Thanks for the gifts, and thanks for listening to a bunch of yahoos, when we said "Why don't you come over here and get it"(your moho). Who would've thought you actually would! You guys are like Airstream Rock Stars now. By the way, can I have your autograph?

Be safe on your way, and pause often to see the scenery. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, so enjoy, and keep on sharing your adventure. I see a book deal in your future!

Love,
Rich the Viking

Another great adventure at Casini! Enjoyed meeting new folks and connecting with past acquaintances. Really appreciated the short drive home today! Wow, what an incredible storm!

See you all next year.

Yup.....we had quite a show of lightening, thunder, and hail at ~8:15pm! We were just getting ready to take Bailey for a walk....THAT got delayed! For now, it appears the rain has stopped....for awhile.

Sooooooo....did you and Cindy have leftover shrimp for dinner?

And....we saw Lili & Hans and their escort pull over in tandem to the dump station, then leave. Where were they headed for tonight? Please keep us updated with their progress, if you hear from them....

Cheers,
Dee, Paul, and the furry kids

For some reason Cindy and I were not feeling great this morning
Didnt have much of an appetite this morning.

Shrimp will not be on tonights menu..

We met up with Lili and Hans and Hans x2, Dan and Irene at the Casini store. From there they drove straight towards So Cal and last I heard they were in Fresno.
They are all drained after a full weekend and will need some rest. They were going to try and figure out a resting place.
Dan is a madman behind the wheel so they might be in Tijuana by now?!
