Well, I WILL be alone in this but like the tarantulas (which may be frightening to look at) Bats are very beneficial and a very important part of the eco system.
Besides that - like the tarantula, they are awful cute little creatures.
I have a few facts here....(you knew this was coming).
Bats are the only mammal that really flies (Birds are not mammals). As mammals, they are warm blooded, have fur, give live birth, and make milk for their babies. They eat bugs - lots of them. A brown bat can eat up to 3000 mosquitoes each night, so bats definitely benefit people!
Bats have large ears to hear better and use high pitch clicks and chirps to echo-locate. They are not blind, they actually can see but when flying around at night they use sound to avoid objects and catch bugs. And when they do find a bug they wrap their wings around them to catch them. That is why they appear to fly so erratically.
There are numerous bat conservancies in the area. The goal is to protect these animals because they are so vital.
I am voting for "Birds of a Feather" and we can all pick our favorite foul to celebrate (I sure wouldn't mind seeing a Blue Heron). I think I am going to need a NorCal Bird book.....

A little birdie told me--

that there is a gathering of vintage airstreams at Casini in June, sites 6 thru20D.
Where do I get my 411?
Buttercup, I recommend "Peterson Field Guide- Western Birds" I have a copy that rides right next to the "Holy Grail" book you so much wish to talk me out of. I'll let you read more at Casini- for a juice drink of some sort.
Thats it - lets try to come up with adult beverages with some bird name!
Like -chicken juice, duck weed, cucuko fizz, wing it, etc.sorry I'm just overjoyed the wind and rain have stopped for a few hours!
And yes I am bat friendly, they're pretty neet creatures, I wish I could fly as they do, yankin and bankin.

Oh the possible possibilities of a Birds of a Feather Theme:
Let's all do a little brainstorming!!!..here's a few things to consider:
Happy Hour:
Coastalview, Lumaniti, and Condoluminum: you've got that covered! how 'bout adding Cold duck, Wild Turkey???

For Potluckdining : Saturday Brunch and Dinner -

Fresh roasted/broil/fried chickens, eggs, ducks, turkey, pheasants, quails, goose ????

For Entertainment:
Doorgunner's got his aerial flying machines,
Bird Watching.
Anyone ready to whet their whistle: how 'bout a bird calling, bird chirping contest?
Music to do the Funky Chicken, Do the Bird

Ok, add to this if you'd like!!!

Guano know something?

Bat Guano cocktails, anyone?

So have we narrowed it down to a winged creature theme then? I'm still voting for the BAT, because it looks so spectacular on an aluminum backdrop (much like the tarantula did in LSA). It's all about the visual for me.
Plus, Doorgunner can fly an aerial Bat over the campground, right?

Then there are FISH...."drink like a fish", fishin' for compliments, gone fishin', fish tacos, etc.

Karin,

If you want to include 'fish' then how 'bout a theme around water/fowl/fish?

Whatever swims, or flies near water?..flying fish roe, duck soup, quail on toast, turtle soup, here we go again..bats do fly, hmm..how can we get bats in on this?

We're committed!

Just talked to Casini Ranch (Sunday AM) and we're in Space 125 for Friday-Sunday... The river never came close to flooding, but wind did a bunch of damage to trees, etc.. Wind at coast was gusting to 70 mph... Girl in offfice who took reservation lost windshield of her car to large branch from Redwood tree that dropped onto car overnight...

They are down to only 13 spaces left in full hookup area, so act fast! It is easier to book and cancel later than miss the fun.. If some generous organized sort wants to book remainder of spaces and handle payments with attendees again, the deposit on a credit card would be $35/spot to hold them.. I understand why Dan declines. The spaces to grab are between 122 and 148 for full hookups, and they are trying to keep spaces in 140's for longer trailers or MH's...

Phone number for Reservations is 1.800.454.8400...

Some species of Bats are known to eat fish... (I just made that up but it sounds good).

REALLY! Wow - I am liking bats more and more. It started as a Death Valley thing for me but now...
I made an untrasonic detector just to listen to them. Maybe I will bring it along.....

Talking about bats and guano: when we went to Tucson, he visited the Kartchner Caves, the "Big Room" Tour..only open when the bats aren't flying in and out and birthing the little babies..but we did get to see heaps of that 'stuff' all over
