October rally

We took a ride over to 49er village in Plymouth today. They have 300 + spaces with full hookups . Clean restrooms and showers.Group rates are available, about $36.00. All spaces paved and level, with grass. Camp fires permitted, but you must provide your own fire pit. There is a place for a group fire also and can be reserved. They would prefer that someone in the group collect the fees, but they will allow one person to reserve a block of spaces and then everyone has to make their own payments within 72 hours. You can visit 49er Village Home Page for more info. Stay tuned tomorrow for the Angels Camp report.

49er

LL and I checked this place out quickly last year when we did the "crush"in October. All the wineries have got together and have a tasting for the weekend, cost like 35$. So 2 of the weeks in oct are holiday rates. It looked like a nice park. I see the non group fee is 46$ for standard service, Sounds like Big Dee has done the reserve for a group thing in the past and has not much positive to say about that. But it's another hat in the ring!
I just read the fine print in the brocure- if staying during a holiday week you must pay in full 14 days prior to arrival, and 1 day reservation at time of booking.I don't doo well at jumping thru hoops. But I do have the inner basket from a clothes drier that makes a great fire ring!

Angels Camp RV Scouting report.

Available sites in Oct at this time, 2 thru17,20,21,22, all full hookups. Sites 29 thru 44 partial hookups. Meeting area outside and inside available to groups included. The lady I spoke with indicated that they would be somewhat flexible in early arrival/ departure times. The bathrooms were clean as were the showers. The outside meeting area is under a octagonal roof, kinda nice. The full service sites face Hwy 49, may be some road noise at nite, This place would be doable, no where near as nice as LSA or Casini.Group rates, We looked at a few other places in Columbia that were too small, one took reservations 3 yrs in advance- there's gold in them thar hills! So here's the pics I took

Hi Tim, looks pretty good, lots of room!..would each member be able just to call and make individau reservations, instead of having to do a group reserve?

Paula, NO not and get the group discount. We're pretty spoiled with the way Casini and LSA treat our group. way different from the norm as we found by visiting 4 places today. There are a few spots that are close to oneanother but I wouldn't think that to be a problem if you knew them, also the camp host assignes your spot, No picking your place.roll the dice
The place Jim checked out in Plymouth appears to have nicer grounds and many more sites. Other places we looked at were already booked for oct!!

hahaha this is what i learned years ago. thats why we have been going back and forth between casini and LSA every year.

again, two parks that would let us call in our own reservations like casini would be casa de fruita at paheco pass or gold ranch near reno.

I kind of like the idea of heading toward the hills for a change, just my opinion, of course, to get some of the Gold in our silver veins!!..what was the verdict on the gold ranch?..full hook-ups, inidvidualized reservations?..

(oops, cat typing error) The KOA behind Boomtown on I80 up here in Tim and Kimber's neighborhood. Still there, the new Cabellas is in the next door parking lot with EVERYTHING outdoors you could want, indoors. Neat exhibits of moose and elk and deer and bear and zebra and elephant and lion and warthog, and a HUGE fish tank and huge gun library and lots of trailer stuff, and, a neat AIRSTREAM T shirt. Boomtown has a great Friday night seafood deal, chiabatta (sp?). Oh yeah, there's a KOA that looks pretty quiet too.

i've stayed at boomtown many times. koa moved into boomtown and all they did was raise the rates. it's advantage is that its a large park with 200 or so sites.

but i think gold ranch is a nicer park. feels more like the woods and has long, paved parking
strips with grass and little trees on either side. and great views of the sierra peaks.

Lynn, and I met Jim and Tim at Angel's Camp Thurs. I didn't think it was a bad choice. Sites are roomy and the pictures do not give that justice. However, the full hookups (18 available) are on the slope that parallel HWY 49 about 100 yards+ away. The picture I have shows the highway in the background. The partial hookup sites are just out of view of 49 are nicer and perhaps quieter (2nd picture). The area has much appeal with nearby Angel's Camp, New Melones Lake and not far from Columbia. But for a rally much of a short weekend's time is socializing anyway. Management sounded very accomodating and flexible. The manager says he even 'joined' in celebrating with a recent group. Much of the access (to sites) roads are paved and all the full hookups are drive throughs. As for being weedy and dusty I don't think any of us got that feeling. Maybe after a hot summer...you could say that about LSA. The staff lady said she would 'work with' those who have and want particular site and early arrivals and those leaving late (day or so) would still qualify for the group rate. After seeing this campground we took the short drive to Columbia and 2 RV parks there. The one a short walk from the town was shady but had close together camping sites. But remember a few posts ago I described the pioneer's 'circling their wagons' in a meadow? I have no problem with being next to a friend. When on our own I want space but we are friends....? Lynn liked that place the best. They cannot accomodate us in Oct. The second park was a little further and cozy also but they reserve up to 3 years in advance! I didn't think the place looked that nice but... As we were all leaving to go home Jim took us to New Melones BLM campground. The 5 of us liked that place. Large shady sites some on a hill but alas..........dry camping.

Oh, I shall add 2 more pictures. The 3rd is a view of one of 3 rows of pull thru full hookups. The fourth photo is the managers site! I guess he had first pick.

So we need to decide where soon. Lynn and I are flexible because we just want to be with our new friends and want to meet nw ones. However, we are going to really think hard before commiting to a long drive.

Is this the Boomtown KOA campsite? Looks like a parking lot to me.

Mr & MRs Buttercup, what can you suggest?

Blue Lakes, CA ???

Has anyone ever been to the Blue Lakes? I've driven by lots of times and it looks very quaint and old fashioned.

Welcome To Pine Acres Resort 707-275-2811

They have 31 RV sites...and they rent kayaks!

"Blue Lake is a natural mountain lake, with native Bass, Crappie, Bluegill and Catfish. It is also stocked regularly with Rainbow Trout by the Fish and Game Department.

Green lawns, shade trees and crystal clear waters surround the accommodations in a natural setting of beauty and each has a view of the lake"

Just adding to the confusion! Karin
