hi paula,

i've been to boomtown many times. the sites have grass strips and small trees in most of them. it's down the hill from the casino and freeway noise with nice views. the best thing about this park is it's very large. we could easily get all together here and late comers could easily get a site. unfortunately it is now a koa.

Kimber (Wally54) has been researching it a little and has some suggestions. Gold ranch was not one of them but is actully a nice find. We would not have thought of that one.
What she did come up with is the following:
  • American River Resort - americanriverresort.com - may not be big rig friendly. Neil suggested this one.
  • Ghost Mountain Ranch - ghostmountainranch.com - Don't know much about them...
  • KOA Placerville at Shingle Springs - koa-placerville.com - 45 full hookup sites, make your own reservations. Near wineries and historic Placerville
  • Far Horizons 49er village - 49ervillage.com - A little more expensive, near wine country. 329 full hookups. Lots of amenities.... Big rig friendly.
That is a start. I do like what uwe said and like I said, I don't mind driving a little to spend a weekend with dear friends. Kimber is really liking the KOA in Placerville..... They have goats and everything.

hey tim,

i've checked the reviews on the above rv parks on RV Park Reviews. ghost mountain gets terrible reviews so thats out. placerville koa i have stayed at. its mostly full of permanent residents and quite rundown. i would not return there. american river resort seems too small (sites and park) to have a large rally at. it would be perfect for a smaller rally. 49er village is a possibility. can anybody check it out for us?

We love going to the mtns. but I'm wondering about the casino oriented info. on the Gold Ranch site. Is it in a very developed area or out in the woods a bit?
Sounds like a good possibility, along with the others mentioned.
We do live in the land of many choices, don't we?
Take care,
hi janet,

the casino/gas station is right on i80. the rv park goes way back away from hwy and casino with tall trees and views of the mountains. this place or boomtown could work well.

hi uwe!

good to see you chiming in. we love LSA but some have expressed that we might try a new location. i don't know what will happen but we will definitely be back to LSA if not this year, then next year. i hope you will join us when we go back to LSA! rally on!

a possibility close to home...

if we really want to make the rally closer to everyone, there is a good location. everyone should be able to easily get to casa de fruita on hwy 152 at pacheco pass. even socals could get here easy by driving up i5 and over to pacheco pass. it is very large park so everyone could get their own reservations with no problem. it is a good park for rallies as some trailers could be set up facing each other with space for rally tables in the center. it has a pool and big playground for the kids. here is the website: Casa De Fruita

There's a Cabela's next to Boomtown now, somebody should check to see if the RV camping is still there. I know they took up a lot of truckers spaces so its a problem when I80 is closed for snow.
Glad I got to stop in at the Cassini ranch Sat night, wished I had gotten there before dark to see the place. Definately will try to get to the next one.

Hey Guys - newbie Pics

All,

We had a great time. It was a very fast weekend. We have much still to learn about the food and drink "standards"... I don't think I seen so many bottles of Zin at a party.

Looking forward to our next adventure with the group.

Ted and Marion.

Circle the wagons

This IS the 21st century. The irony to our difficulty today is that the pioneers just would find a meadow, circle the wagons, build a campfire in the center...and have a RALLY! The good old days were sometimes that good.

..........so ok, they didn't have full hookups....

Stockton Delta KOA

Hi happy group
Sorry we missed you this year at Casini...hopefully we'll make it next year.
Here's a good centrally located California campground for your consideration...
Stockton Delta KOA
We stayed there a couple of months ago and thought it was a very nice place. Clean and very spacious.

Love to join you at any of these but will they accomodate long rigs and FULL hookups? Lynn and I can deal with dry camping but to encourage all there needs to be full hookups. How did those pioneers ever survive?

Ok...a true story for all of you. As some of you may have heard that I as a 14 year old 'immigrated' with my family to California from Michigan via Route 66 in 1952. One dusty hot late afternoon in Oklahoma, miles from anywhere, dad pulled into a gas station (all on dirt). Mom asked the attendant/owner if there was an overnight trailer park nearby. "No, but if you want you may park your rig behind the station and hook the garden hose and electric from the station," the man offered. Our 26' trailer had a bathroom but no holding tanks as didn't travel trailers of that day. So the gas station bathroom was left unlocked for us. Early in the cool of the morning we pulled out and continued ahead'n west. A few miles down the Rte 66 another motorist passed our rig and was waving furiously and pointing to the rear of our rig. Dad found a place to pull over....there were not many places as most of '66 was narrow and just 2 lanes. Well, as you may have guessed we forgot to disconnect the gas station garden hose and 50+ feet of it was trailing behind us. Dad and I unhooked the trailer (too difficult to turn around the rig). Dad drove back to that station with the hose and left some money for any damage. That is the kind of man my dad was. Full hookups today ARE nice.
Neil.

nice parks paula. the only problem is that the idea was that we choose a park closer, more centrally located than LSA for gas saving reasons. june lake is quite a trek for most people like me.

Angels Camp is 10 miles from me. I would be happy to check it if you like. There are also places in Columbia with full hookups.

I think Ginny needs to get out more for her recovery. So a short drive would be nice. I found that park by googling 'full hookup camping, ca.' There were a number of sites to look up. The Delta and Lake County had a big selection but not quite big enough. Someone could try looking too. There could be something that I missed. It was past my bedtime......come to think of it I have no bedtime any more.
