And all this time I thought I was "The circle of Protection"
guess I'll be leaving the spud gun, UAV,claymores, fuel accelerants, and hand to hand devises back at the vinyard. Yup that bout only leaves the adult beverages and food- sounds kinda tame, hey food fight!!! Now I've gotta come up with a quick trebouchet!

Don and Claudia,
Thats all-full to hear your not going to make it this year. This would have been our third rally together. Maybe we can make it to the Beverly Beach Bash again. I hope all is well and your travels are safe.

Hey all you Southern/Central CA folks heading north to Casini....
I can't be at the rally, but I have a couple of sit-on-top kayaks that I'll loan out to someone. All you have to do is pick them up in Templeton. I only have one PFD, but paddles for both. You're welcome to borrow them for the rally if interested.
Dave
On edit: I actually have one adult, and one child size PFD.

Route suggestions
We are heading up from the Los Angeles area on Thursday and plan to meet some friends for lunch in Sebastapol on Friday prior to getting to the rally. What do you suggest as the best route from Sebastapol to Casini Ranch- up the 116 or over to the Bohemian Highway (sounds daunting). Also, we were considering going all the way to the coast and circling back from there- any comments from a time and towing perspective? Looking forward to our first rally-

Jot;
Last year, Freshair and I travelled thru Sebastapol and continued up 116 to Forestville, then Gurnieville Hwy to there and to Casini. It's scenic and slow, curvy and 2 lane narrow in spots. At times my 32 was tryin to push me thru the sharp turns. Would I do it again- you bet. But If it were me today, I'ld just pull back to 101N and get off north of Santa Rosa and take the River Road all the way to Casini. My Burb gets much better milage going 55 than 25-35 on and off the throttle. The Bohemian hwy thing is also doable especially for those of you with small rigs. Speakin of RIGS your spot on the RIG list awaits your attention ;-).

Leaving from Cameron Park...

Hi Dave and Penny,
We're leaving from Cameron Park aka Shingle on Friday morning. Last year we followed these directions with no problems.
Hwy 50 to I-80
I-80 to Hwy 37 at Mare Island
Hwy 37 to join 101 North in Novato...
Stay on 101 North through Marin County and past Petaluma...
...ignoring Hwy 116 which looks like a shortcut!
Exit from 101 west onto “River Road” at north end of Santa Rosa...
and follow River Road...
and follow River Road...
and follow River Road past wineries...
and past Guerneville...
to Moscow Rd. to the Campground entrance.
I have a pdf booklet if you'd like to pm me with a regular email address I can send it to you.
See you there.
Kimber (aka Ms. Buttercup)

Great directions Kimber--especially the "ignore 116 shorcut" part!
Looks like we're scoring great weather yet again. Happy travels to all!

As doorgunner has reported we followed him from Sebastopol to Gurneville on 113. For me it wasn't bad......if you ain't in a hurry to party. Also as he reported maybe pulling a long rig may take some of your attention from the senic drive. Yes, I too would not mind it again either...it's a lot easier than the roads past Placerville where we live. Last year doorgunner and us decided the 113 route at last impulse mostly because 101 was a traffic nightmare and we heard tell of major highway construction in Santa Rosa. The return trip we followed River Road (a nice ride) out to 101. Indeed the construction on 101 in SR was annoying to drive through. Our travel days then were Thurs. going up (Tues this year for Lynn and I) and Mon. was the return day. You all can perhaps decide if the days you travel on will be different. I plan to decide on 113 or River Road this time from the degree the 101 annoyance level is for me.
Neil.

Neil, We were lucky and had fairly smooth sailing through Santa Rosa last year, but of course us low-landers are used to all that orange-cone abuse!
Either route is bound to be a gorgeous drive.
See you soon!

Post office
So today I was on my weekly trip to the P.O. thinking about all the upcoming festivities. Well wouldn't you know it I got stopped at the train tracks, in view of the P.O.
4 locomotives
47 tankers
93 conex cars
28 boxcars
4 hoppers
176 total
now some of you are making fun of me for having supreme driving skills
if you reread my earlier post you will note that I advise jot to get back on 101N.
I pay taxes to use the roads in this state, even the dirt roads, but then I guess some of you are afraid of going down that path huh
