No, the Cornish Pasty Pie is not for vegetarians. The turnip is accompanied by potatos, onion and cube beef. Lynn seasons it with garlic salt and lemon pepper. Then there is the pastry for the top and bottom to make it a pie. The pie is better for serving a group. Normally The Cornish (from Cornwall, England) Pasty is more of a turnover ala (a stretch) piroski or a burrito. My parents were from Cornwall so I grew up on Pastys. I requested, Lynn, when we were married to learn from my mother how to make them. Lynn (I hope mom can't hear me from up there) makes them better than she did........and Lynn doesn't like Pasty.

Neil,
Are you a descendant of the Cornish miners who were responsible for the developement of the foothills of N. California during the gold rush years? If so, your roots run deep, since Placerville was founded then.
Can't wait to taste the Pasties!

My mom and dad both imigrated to Detroit in the 20s...separately. They met here. That's another story. Anyway I was born in Detroit. Mom and dad had 10 and 11 siblings respectfully. Almost all left England and most to work in mining. Dad had a brother who was mining in Grass Valley. He tried to locate him in the 50s after we all moved to Calif. He found his nephew in Colfax who told us his dad died in the 40s most likely of black lung a common killer of hard rock miners. My cousin moved from Colfax in the 60s and we lost contact. Now that I have retired and we have the AS we want to spend time in Grass Valley area and try to at least locate my uncle's grave. Our research has uncovered uncles that mined in Colorado, Arizona, So. Africa, Australia and on and on. My maternal grandfather mined in Montana returning to Cornwall each year and fathering another child. Who knows how many others he may have father in Montana. Lynn and I have traveled to Cornwall and other parts of England and have located a number of my cousins and the childhood homes of my parents. Now I am rambling. We have a Rally to look forward to.
Neil.

Kevbo...I just visited Babeebloos in Laguna and though there aren't very many cowboy bars there I thought this establishment might make you feel a little more at home.
Now let's get on with planning this rally! Where is everybody???

The pic on the left is the meadow campground about as nice as it gets! The waterfalls were out in the canyon about a mile away- had the zoom maxed out for that one. DG

Mahalo! What a gorgeous park. Are those chickens and roosters running free? No predators around? I just lost one of my layers--Waunda--to a rogue coyote. He and his brethren could thin the wild chicken population in Kauai in no time at all. We golfed there one year and chickens were all over the course, looking very robust. Are they still everywhere?
Welcome back. Much jealousy here. I grew up on Oahu and could never live there again, but get those tropical longings at this time of the year.
Aloha nui loa,
Janet

You crack me up Paula! No mosquitoes anywhere they were warned I would be in the area I guess! and I do not think roaches inhabit Hawaii. Wild pigs yes, Ahi, Yellowtail, and a whole slew of really nice birds, I mean real colorful critters. DG
