29 Palms in January 07?

One more vote for 29 Palms Resort in the winter. How about some time in mid January 07? Based on what seems to be the yearly schedule, it appears that we are looking at 1 rally per quarter. Assuming we decide on 29 Palms for the winter rally, the summer rally should definetly be in the North, way North. All of our thoughts are subject to majority rule, unless of course we count votes in Florida.

I vote 29Palms in winter. Casini Ranch in Spring, a Northern California destination TBD for summer, and Central California location in fall.

I vote for 29 Palms in mid-January. We are from Southern Cal but participated in your Pismo Beach rally. The resort in 29 Palms looks great and would only be a short trip for us.

If the majority vote is to go to 29 Palms, will the "Snow Birds" be any bit of a problem with enough sites being available? I've tried on several occassions to go to Desert Hot springs during the winder months and I just can't seem to get in as the resorts are all booked up.

29 palms is really a SoCAl rally area. That is a long way to go if you live in Dunsmuir, Yreka, Eureka or Redding.

Rookie questions.

Hello,
I have not attended one of the trailer events. Does it require any specific affillation? What should I expect the event to be like? How many usually show up? Is there any organized function happening concurrent with the event? Do they allow Airstream motor homes and trailers to the attend the same event?

At the last Rally the only affiliation if any was being a member of the Forum. 27 showed up at the last rally. Trailers and a motor home comingled. The organized function (business meeting) lasted about 3 minutes. It was painless.

As to what to expect.. Well a lot of nice people visited and checked out each others Airstreams. There was a potluck. Two guys who knew what they were doin put on a rivet removal/installation seminar and they also put an awning on a trailer. A member with a 3 letter named tried to break the record for the most people in an Airstream. Margarita balls showed up for the potluck. A movie might be shown after dinner. It will be trailer related. Everyone is free to do what they wish. It is a very pleasant laid back and fun experiance. Lots of humor and nice people.

Try it and you'll like it. It's like camping with a family you like.

Even if you have never met any of these people, if you have been posting on forum, you feel like you already know them when you do meet them. It's fun to put a face with the screen name.

29 Palms fits in nicely with out plans to spend the last 3 weeks in January and all of February someplace south where the days are a bit longer, the likelihood of rain is lessened, and the weather is a bit warmer than here. Count us in. We might even stay a week at the reduced rate to make up for the 9% tax. Don't forget the 10% discount for Good Sam Club members.

Is the proximity to the airport that I see on the Google aerial map a problem?

Very light traffic of small planes. Now with the Marine base close by you will get passing helicopter traffic from Gunships to transport but they tend to stay to the North.

We'd like to attend but it would be a long hike for us. I must admitt I am confused about why you call it Norcal?

Has a date been set?

Look on the Rally page or in the off topic section for "NorCal Winter Raly in 29 Palms." Its 1-12/15-07

The unofficial schedule seems to be Summer in Northern Ca. Spring and Fall in central Ca. and in the Winter we head for the warmth of So. Cal. I think we are calling any rally in Ca. a NorCal rally.
