Newbie in Indiana where to join?

Just purchased our first Airstream. Nice upgrade from our popup. We love to camp and have a seven year old son. Most of our camping has been in our State and National Parks. I am thinking of joining the WBCCI to allow us to do more rallys and social Airstream camping.

I have seen groups such as AIR Midwest but they seem to be mostly located in Oaklahoma and Missouri. Nova is close to Indiana but their website has not been updated really since 2010, so I am not sure they are intact. The So. Ill. Unit 039 looks to camp a little in Indiana and has an active group. Having a younger son and living in Indiana is there a Unit or Club that I have over looked that has a strong presence near Indiana?

I know that once I join WBCCI I can join any club. I would like to find a club like the 4CU near me. I know I can join the Central Indiana Region 5 Unit but I am not sure this fits my younger age demographics.

Give me some ideas. I am open minded so don't feel that I am closed to the idea of CIR#5 I just am looking for some ideas.

We have already registered for Alumapalooza 2012 and will be there all week. I have not seen a lot of posts on Alumapalooza 2012 here in the AF's.

1988 Excella 1000 pictures to come soon.

Welcome aboard. Hope you enjoy your 88 as much as we have. One thing I can say about joining a unit is camp around and see what fits your family. Like you said sum units are older than others, but I think all units need new family's to keep the units from folding as some due every year. I don't know anything about you particular area, but I'm sure someone here will chime in sooner than later. One last thing, the old timers are a great source of info when finding and fixing older rigs, and some new ones, so don't let the wrinkles chase ya away. Just enjoy.

Always good to see another new Airstream owner and Air Forums member. Just wanted to insure you that NOVA is quite intact. In fact, we are the fastest growing unit in Region 4 and would be happy to count you as a member. Take a look at this thread for our latest newsletter.

Gary:

Thanks for the information. I was linked to this address from the WBCCI site. Updated on this link said July 21, 2010. NOVA! - NOVA
Under events upcoming future events had items listed for 2011 that were under consideration but I could not find anything that looked like it was posted this year on the Nova website.

Thanks again for the link to the December newsletter. I might take you up on the invite for Region 4.

Steve.

Mini, I also want to encourage you to join WBCCI & any other group you like. The best part of it all is looking forward to a rally to see friends, then bumping in to them unexpectedly somewhere down the road, being able to say " hey, I know you! "
Remember, that aluminum trailer makes everyone there like minded, part of the same family. Other brands have their groups, but there is no other like the Airstream family. Make your own fun, enjoy that trailer. Safe & happy travels. John

Steve,

I encourage you to take a look at both the IN, and IL units. We joined here in GA, and found a unit which is actively recruiting members with families. The older members of the unit understand that a constant influx of younger members is critical for both unit continuity as well as growth. Our kids are now middle school age, but we have felt very welcome at all times.

Steve,

We swapped out from a Coleman pop up also. Took that thing all over Indiana. A couple favorites were Hoosier and The Dunes. Although I'd never do The Dunes on a holiday weekend again.

Look forward to seeing some pictures of your Excella....

Steve, sorry about the website being out-of -date! It's my fault!

I kinda bit off a lot of work in the past year, and the site has suffered. Rest assured NOVA is strong and getting stronger.

I encourage you to read thru the newsletter. We have a lot of fun.

Note that we will be having a couple of events fairly close to you soon. We have our installation party coming up in mid-Ohio, and later in March will be going down to a concert in Cincy. You are welcome to join us without any obligation. We just love meeting new campers!

My name is Dwight Dixon. We have belonged to the Northern Illinois Unit for 18 years and both myself and my wife have served as president. We do have a few people from Northern Indiana who are members of our unit. We have about 60 families this year. I encourage you to visit our website (which I maintain) and see if there is a fit. Northern Illinois

You can also come out and visit at any of our rallies, without joining, to have a closer look. Once you are a member of WBCCI you can come to any unit's events. You can reach me through my email that is on the site as well as my phone number.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us. All the clubs and groups are great, and the Airstream rallies are a terrific way to learn about Airstreams, and meet like minded people.

Hello fellow Hoosier, as a member of the Central Indiana Unit of the WBCCI, I think you should come out and give us a try before you write us off as a bunch of old farts. I don't know how young you are, but we are also younger members who have a great time hanging out with the 'older' crowd. We have a Christmas luncheon coming up on Dec 3rd, why don't you stop by and get to know us. PM me and I can send you all the details, or go to Central Indiana Unit WBCCI

I also recommend attending or visiting a unit function to see if it's a good fit for you... And while it's nice to have local associations, you don't have to join a unit in your geographical area if you find another you like better. You can join any unit you wish to join... And as a member of any unit, you can attend any other unit's functions. Once a member of WBCCI you can become an affiliate/associate member of another unit as well (by paying just unit portion of the dues).

Sure, stop in and have lunch with us and meet everyone. We will eat around noon, food is on our own at it's cafeteria style. Come around 11:30 if you want to socialize a little before.

Look me up I should have my wbcci nametag on.

Damon:

Thanks for a great time today at the Christmas gathering for the WBCCI CIU. Being new it was nice to spend time talking about a common interest between everyone.

Thanks for everyone making us feel welcome.
