Motor Home Rally

The idea of a motor home rally has been mentioned in a few threads so I am starting this thread to see what kind of interest there is in getting one started.
This would be a gathering of all the great old classics still alive and the newer class A and C motor homes which will no longer be made by Airstream. It would also be great to have some new Interstates so we can see what the future looks like.
We will be gathering from across the nation and if you guys who have shipped them across the pond want to ship yours back you are welcome. I would suggest we meet somewhere in the middle of the country like Missouri. How about late fall, October, September, November?
Let's hear the interest, ideas, suggestions, and remember this thread is limited to the subject of a motor home rally.

great idea ck!

here is a suggestion for ya...

so feel free to ignore it...

combine a rally and a caravan.

start somewhere up north at the headwaters of the mississippi...

and work toward new orleans....

folks would join the caravan for just a few days along the route,
or do the whole trip...

this 'midwestern' route would cover a lot of area so more folks would have the opportunity to join up along the way...

what great times this could be...

the huck finn caravan and rally.

cheers

How about Northern Minnesota for a site? Seems like most of the folks (not all) on this tread are from the Midwest.

2AIR has a very good idea. We can't get away long enough to go to New Orleans right now, but would certainly want to be part here in the North. BTW, we did the Mardi Gras Rally in 2001 and had a very good time. Even met a bunch of Texicans that loved to party.

The two motorhome rallys we had before were the first weekend of April at Mystic Springs in Pensacola, FL.

My suggestion is to shoot for regional motorhome rallys all on the same weekend. Just my 2 cents. I can certainly push them on my website if you guys set dates and locations. We had 7 at the first rally. See if you can beat that!

I'm interested and will participate if possible.

Just a questions is this a motorhome ONLY rally or a motorhome focused rally at which other forum members are welcome?

I would vote for the later.

You know, although it's not a MoHo only rally, there is usually plenty of room in June at the Midwest Rally in LeRoy Illinois. I think there were over 30 units last year......of all types of Airstreams and Argosy units.

Here's what I posted in another thread on this topic:

When - any time after mid March, although a bit more lead time might be nice.

Where - anywhere in North America except Alaska (much as I'd like to make that trip I don't want to beat my rig to death getting up there). Closer to California would make it easier for me.

I have six acres on the Upper Sacramento River (blue ribbon trout stream). I have a dump station, 50 amp power, and "The best water on earth", and Wifi. You'd all be welcome here.

I have a friend who has a camp ground in North Dakota with whom we could work something out.

How about Jackson Center?

We could go to New Orleans and give the economy a boost. Just some thoughts.

This would be a motor home focused rally but open to one and all.

It's difficult for me to get too far out of territory during the selling season so if we make it closer to the Carolinas that works for me! That's why I'm in for the Hiawassee GA rally in April. I can just go back to work in Western North Carolina on Monday. Mind you if oil keeps falling we can all drive cross country soon for cheap.

I have similar problems because of family responsibilities. The suggestion about having Regional Rallys is probably a good one. There are several of us here in the midwest that could get together. Any suggestions for a site in the midwest. Probably could combine it with fishing or music or ?

We are flexible and as soon as you can confirm a date, we will try to make it. FMCA has rallys all over the place at a very reasonable price and will admit guests. We could meet somewhere before the rally and get parked together.
Also, in May, Holland Motorhomes puts on a rally in their lot for the tulip festival in Holland,MI.
Our motto is "Have motorhome will travel"

I still say we concentrate on the center of the country. Missouri, Arkansas, Eastern Kansas, S.D. and set a date. June is my month for camp hosting, I am doing some weddings in July and taking my son out to Maine in August. The fall really is the best for me and would give more time for people to plan. We could even spend a year to get this off the ground and make it really big with hundreds of old classics and AS motor homes lined up. Have it next Spring, March, April, real early May. Make it a buddy rally and get some of those great old GM motor homes to come.

We're not getting much traffic on this thread are we. I like the idea of inviting the old GMC Motorhomes.

I think the thing to do is start setting one up and see what transpires. Maybe make it a Classic Motorhome Rally and not exclude anyone. Classic not in the Classic Airstream sense, but meaning well made motorhomes that have survived the ages. Airstreams, Avions, Argosys, GMC's, whatever. Also anyone else who would be interested. Kind of like the old tractor rallys they have around here.

Could be really interesting and a lot of fun. I know of a couple county fairgrounds here in Minnesoooota that could handle that type of rally.

Find an event to center it around.

I would really like to see other Classics like the GMs.

Pick a spot and move it around each year.
America is kinda big, your not going to please us all in one hit.

When we had ou Classic Motorhome rally 5 yrs ago, of course the Forum was just beginning, but we could only draw 7, and later Rallys did not do so well either, so we started just calling em Forum Rally. Got lots more attendees then.

a vintage and classic motohrome rally could be advertised in Hemmings and on RV.net you might get a good turnout that way. I am sure it would be great fun.

Sounds like a really good idea. We would love to attend. The thought of a field full of old classics (and others) certainly brings a smile to my face. Because of school commitments the summer is best for us, but if it was close enough we could take a 3 day. Hope we can make this happen.

If anyone has done this can you answer a couple questions. Does one need some sort of insurance? I have run some pretty big affairs working within a large organization but had their backing. Anybody got any advice on how to set one up?
