I've been kind of "drifting" with this thread and haven't said anything, because (with a certain amount of misgivings) I have listed my '78 Argosy MH for sale. However, as I think about how much fun a rally of classic motorhomes could be I'm beginning to think of more reasons I should be keeping the ole girl. I, for one am staying tuned.

America is kinda big, your not going to please us all in one hit.
I attended the American Historical Truck Society annual meeting in Fontana over Memorial Day weekend in 2004 and the GMC motorhome club was in attendance with about 50 motorhomes. Contact them to attend if this rally happens.

Here is a picture.

FMCA has a AS southeast chapter and a zillion GMC motorhome chapters that might be real interested in what you are trying to do. The AS chapter is mostly classics.
I have a contact person if anyone is interested.

I'm in if...

To answer the question about special insurance, if it is informal, you shouldn't need it unless you are going to plan it like a like a Regional WBICC or International Rally or caravan.

I prefer the informality of just posting the designated campground and date...if you want to attend, you make your own reservation, you are free to do your own thing (come when you want, leave when you want), potluck & bon fire (if you want) one night, informal visits & tours.

I'd attend in in MO, IL, TN, upper AK, lower IA, I prefer the Fall ...Hate Summer camping since the dash air doesn't work .

The folks at Moraine View State Park in LeRoy, IL are pretty accomodating for Jack's Midwest Forums Rally. It's been pretty lonely being the only MH ever attending...but all the "trailer" folks make up for it with their hospitality...especially 2 air, Jack, Twink & Flamingo.

We will keep this thread around and pull it out from time to time to see if more interest can be generated.

We Got Two

Here a couple of pics for you moho junkies. Guy99 and I were at the Nor Cal Rally in 29 Palms this weekend. It's the first time we've rallied with, or even met, another motorhome couple. Ron

Thanks Karen

It's really fun to get these old birds together. Nice shots and nice motorhomes. I would be interested in a Mid West rally. Also planning on the GA rally in April (we missed the Fall rally).

Minnesota Rally

I have spoken to a member of the Old Time Heritage Village in Farmington, Mn, at the Dakota County Fairgrounds. If there is any interest I can explore this further.
They have several events during the summer, but the most interesting ones are a Blue Grass Misic Festival, and they also have a classic car show weekend.
The fairgrounds is quite large and has many camp sites set up with water and electric. I'm not so sure about sewer. It is right in the city of Farmington and just thirty minutes from the Mall of America.
During these events they open up the Heritage Village and it acts like an old time city. It is staffed by volumteers.

If there is any interest I will explore this further.

Farmington is thirty miles south of St. Paul.

If I find that ten or twenty are interested, I will pursue it farther.

Any where in the mid-west is good for us. Jackson Center might be an option. We usually make a yearly "pilgramige" to the factory anyway. I think the 310 likes going back to it's roots every now and again.

I for one am interested. We just bought a 2000 Land Yacht and would love to get together with other motorhome owners. We are in eastern Iowa, so it would be a reasonable drive for us.

Neophytes and interested...

We will be away in late April/early May and again the first half of July. But if there is a midwest rally, it would be great fun to meet other moho owners. (Is a seasoned motorhome owner a "silverback"? ) I'll keep a watch for any updates.

Thanks!

Chaplain Kent--we're with you. Arkansas, Missouri, east Oklahoma, etc. all sounds good to us. Hot Springs has some beautiful camping near there (Lake Ouachita, Lake Catherine, etc.)! We'd be up for it!

Even if only 2, 4, 6, 8, however many show up--what fun it would be!

My wife noticed the mention of GMC motorhomes on this thread. We thought that we would let the group know that River Ridge RV Resort has a Classic RV rally date planned for the weekend of October 18-20. The Mid-West GMC Motorhome chapter will be there with over 50 restored GMC Motorhomes. They held a rally there last year and it was great looking at these unique units.

The website is RIVER RIDGE RESORT in Stanwood, Michigan Home Page. The park about 6 miles south of Big Rapids on US-131. We seasonal here and its a great campground.
