Hey Everyone
I need to share some sad news, My husband Paul Schopa has passed away Saturday 4-26.
We lost our battle with Cancer. He fought so hard. He really wanted to make the rally this year. I will miss him, but I know he is in a better place. My plan is for his son Ed to stay with me. I am not planning on camping any time soon. I hope you all have a great time, give a toast to Paul at dinner for us. Thank you for all the friendship you shared with us. I don't want to distract you from you rally news, there is a legacy website if you with to share any thoughts or memories of Paul

Judy and Ed. So very sorry to hear this news. You definitely will be in our thoughts. No doubt this year will be a little melancholy for many of us since we've lost three Moraine View folks since last year. We hope to see you again in the future.

Regards,

Jack

We are in the home stretch now. I'll start a list regarding food for the Saturday evening pot luck shortly. I haven't dewinterized the Airstream yet and will get that done in the next couple of weeks. I'm looking forward in seeing everyone.

For those of you coming for the first time, remember that you only have electric at your site, so make sure you come in with a full fresh water tank. Note that there is one water outlet in the F section that you can supplement with, but bring a filter. The water contains some sediment which can play havoc with internal filters. There is a nearby bath house to our area.

Don't forget we will have our traditional welcome hot dog fest at my site at 5 pm Friday. I'm supplying the hot dogs, buns, and condiments. If any of you would like to bring something else to share like chips or other items, please feel free.

Jack

Best, really, to fill your fresh water tank wherever you spend the night before you come to the rally, as the water not only has sediment in it but tastes nasty.

Perfectly safe for dishwashing, bathing, etc. but not palatable for your morning coffee or tea.

Yep as much as I hate to haul water I'd rather bring my St. Louis water with me. Not only do I fill the fresh water tank on the Airstream, but I carry another 21 gallons of water in 3 fresh water portable containers that I haul in the van. That way I can get the black water tank full when I go to dump at the dump station on the way out of the park.

I needed additional water one year and hooked up a filter to the fresh water spigot close to where we were parked. After about 21 gallons the filter I put on the spigot was about 3/4 clogged and needed cleaning.

Folks, as much as I hate to do this, I, going to have to cancel out my attendance at Moraine View this year. Patty had afib problems with her heart in mid April. Afib isn't new to her, but this time her heart rate fell dangerously low. It may have caused some damage to her kidneys and she subsequently has had 4 stays in the hospital. The most current stay is almost 2 weeks and I can foresee she probably will be here at least 2 days more.

The good side is her kidney function is improving so we don't think there is any long term issue there. She's on an afib drug now and her heart rate and blood pressure are better than they have been for a long time. Even though we are over 2 weeks away from the rally, I don't think she we be up to travel and being away from her medical doctors at this point. At this time I don't feel comfortable leaving her home to come to the rally alone, even if she would feel that I could go without her.

Bottom line, the rally will go on whether I'm there are not. Unfortunately the Friday hot dog fest that I host won't happen since I'm the guy who brings the hot dogs and buns. Hopefully everything else will go off as planned with the Saturday trailer open house and the pot luck meal. Eric (Silvertwinkie) does have the screen and projector for the movie which should be there. We will need someone to volunteer a DVD player, and really important is a sound system. What I bring each year is fairly unsophisticated. It's my old audio amplifier and two decent sized speakers. The key is the amp and good sized speakers that you can turn up the volume on. Smaller speakers may not work well.

So folks, talk amongst yourselves over the next few days and see who may be able to pick up the slack...or do something different if you wish. I was hoping that we could have done this with both of us or me only, but the health situation is slow in coming around and I think its best for us to get past this.

Once we get this discussed and planned, I'll create a new flyer and post it in a PDF attachment here. Then each if you can print the flyer at home before you leave.

Also my campsite will become available. If you don't have a site yet let me know. If you have one and want to move we can work that out. Just pm me a contact number and I'll call you so I can cancel online and you can pop right on and pick up my site. I'm reserved from Thursday with Sunday being the departure date. In case I get multiple folks interested, I'll take the first one who responds. If it ends up that I hear from someone who doesn't yet have a site yet, I'll give you preference over someone who already has a site. Check out the attendee list a few posts back to see my site number.

So let me know if you have questions. I'm of course at the hospital a lot so don't get concerned if you don't get an immediate response from me. Thank goodness for free WiFi and an iPad. I'll let you know how Patty is doing and hopefully we will be back next year. It going to be strange not being there this year, but you folks know the drill and how we've done this. You folks do all the work anyway and all I really do is add a small amount of organization, so I'm sure things will go well for you all.

Jack

Jack, sorry to hear the news, we all wish your wife well. It seems this year has brought many changes for us all, some happy some sad. We attended this rally for the first time last year and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Moraine View has plenty of activities to offer for everyone of all ages. Our 4 year old son has been talking about Prince the horse all year and is ready to ride again. There was such a great turnout of airstreams, the open house was very inspirational for us, (you'll see on Saturday). That said we find ourselves on the fortunate side of Lady Luck this year.

If, as a group, we would like to continue the Friday night social over some delicious roasted hot dogs and cocktails our rig would be happy to provide the hot dogs and buns, condiments and cocktails are on the guests.

I will keep an eye on this thread and see where it goes.
Wishing all the best to everyone!
Cale and Amy
