We will think about food to bring when we get a little closer and know what the temps are going to be. Last year it was so d--- hot!

Would like to make my famous Ginger-Peach Cobbler in the DO, maybe.

We and TinLoaf are having an enjoyable but alternately wet weekend at Hidden Springs SF. Mcair were out for the day and dinner yesterday, and the dogs are having a blast running loose as we are the only ones in this area.

See ya'll next month.

Doug & Maggie, Cosmotini and I talked about the Moraine View Rally so much at this weekend's Southern Illinois Unit rally that Jim & Kaye from our unit signed up for site 8 arriving Thursday. It looks like only sites 1 and 9 remain open in the loop.

They have their grandmother's 1959 Airstream Pacer, their mother's 1973 Airstream Ambassador and their own late model Airstream Safari. I'm trying to talk them into reserving the other two sites and bringing all three!

Jim & Kaye are nice people, and we promised them a great weekend full swapping tales from the road, great food and the company of many other nice people.

For those of you who have not been to Moraine View before, fill your fresh water before you arrive as the water at that park is rather nasty tasting.

Looking forward to the rally and only driving 20 minutes to get there!

Food for Saturday Evening Potluck

maccamper will bring "17th Street's Tangy Pit Beans" for the Saturday evening potluck.

It's our favorite baked bean recipe and menu item from Mike Mills' 17th Street Bar and Grill in Murphysboro, IL. The recipe is included in his book "Peace, Love and Barbecue."

Based on the weather so far, we have absolutely no expectations about what kind of weather we'll have for the rally! Well, maybe the expectation is that we have no expectations.

See you all in June.

Ok so we have baked beans, meatballs, so far.

The potluck will be Saturday evening at 6 PM. Bring a dish you would like to share with others.

The schedule so far is the hot dog fest at 5 PM on Friday at my site.
Trailer open house beginning at noon on Saturday.
Table gathering for the pot luck at 5 PM. I need helpers to round up some tables so we can lay out the food and sit together.
Evening movies at dusk.

We will figure out the location where we will do the pot luck and movies once we get on site.

Note for first timers, Moraine view has two dump stations. One on your left as you first enter the park and another close to the check in area. Note that you will need to bring water. While there are random spigots, the water contains sediment and you really need to put a filter on the spigot if you plan to fill from them. I know that after 25 gallons, my filter usually needs servicing.

There is a bath/shower house and kids area within view of our camping loop. Moraine View is a "dry" campground and alcoholic beverages are not allowed....or to be consumed in public view.

I'm going to do a black bean salad Friday night and Louisiana Red Beans & Rice for the potluck Saturday. We brought back 5lbs of Ma Bell's smoked sausage last fall, much of which is still lurking in the freezer, waiting to be used for just such dishes.

Forecast is for moderate temperatures.

Just curious. Right now the 13 year cicadas are in full voice. They are swarming and are loud until nightfall. Are they out in Moraine View?

As there has not been a cicada-report, thus far, will tell you that from 20 minutes away from Moraine View we have not noticed cicadas as of yet. Are being forewarned about them, however.

Cicadas singing in the evening are one of sweet sounds of summer, though.

I'm sitting here in the house with the windows closed and air on and you can hear them from inside. This 13 year swarm isn't quite the same as those annual ones. The only respite is that they quiet down once the sun goes down.

Today's task is to bring the Airstream home from its inside storage. Time to dewinterize....This will be our first trip out. At least gas has moderated a little although it went back up somewhat this back into the $3.60 range.

Early weather forecasts don't look bad on temps. Only bummer is that Saturday calls for occasional rain. We will watch this closely and see what we may do about the movies. If the percentages for Saturday night get really high, we just might do a 360 and do them Friday night. I'll let you know there if we make that change.

Hot dog fest is still on at my site on Friday at 5 PM!

If the temps stay out of the 90's, we will be happy with that. And, if they don't, oh well----what can you do about the weather.

We are heading out in about an hour to camp with 4 grandkids til Wednesday, going to be hot! Will just plug in when we get home and restock for Moraine View on Thursday.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. I have a new slush recipe I'll be bringing---Frozen Whisky Sours. Delicious!

Jack I hope your forecast is right as Weather Channel calling for scattered t-storms Thu-Fri-Sat. Temps do look good except for Wed the day I'm arriving when it's supposed to hit 95. But it was 94 yesterday in Jackson Center.
