I am being nailed for annual training again the 6th through the 20th. We will miss three in a row if it stays the 2nd weekend

I have to check out the future event schedule at the convention center. My intention would be to book that second weekend in June. Kids are out of school by that time frame and the weather is still pretty nice.

Prairie Pines check

Hi Jack. I am driving over to be one of the judges at a BBQ contest in Arthur, Illinois this Saturday. It will not be too far out of the way to stop by Rantoul and take a look at Prairie Pines Campground.

I will see what they have in the way of a common area and/or pavillion and also see how mobile (or not) the picnic tables are. If someone is there, I will ask about how they take reservations and if they would have a problem with a rally taking over a section of the park. I will check and see if they have fire rings and if there would be a problem with campfires and smokers/grills.

If there is anything else you would like me to take a look at, please let me know. Thanks.

Laird

Thanks Laird. I appreciate you doing some of the leg work. You might let them know we would expect at least 30-40 trailers. I'm assuming we might get a little bigger turn out with full hookups. I'm home this week and don't have access to the convention center schedule but I'm hoping that the 2nd weekend of June is open on their schedule, with about 10 or so arriving on Thursday with the balance on Friday.

I'd be interested in how we could do the reservations. Could they hold a block of sites up to a certain date? Or would they at least try to keep us together as single reservations come in.

Thanks so much for supplying the eyes. It's always hard to do this sight unseen and over 200 miles from my locale.

Jack

I learned about this place from a nice couple we met in Holland, Michigan about 4 years ago.

They were smitten with our A/S and asked for a tour. They were from Indiana and said they stayed at Prairie Pines a number of times and really liked it. They had a 1985 Barth motorhome that looked brand new.

I hope it all works out. I did google map directions from Le Roy to Rantoul and it's 33 miles, not 20.

Jack:

I believe that this is where the WBCCI Region 5 rally was held last year in September 2007. If I recall correctly, there were around 85 Airstreams. Some Airstreams (a few) had to double up on the sewer. All had electric and water.

It's a nice park but no private park is the same as a state park in terms of acreage, lakes, hiking or woods. This park was close to the aeronautical museum and airbase which were interesting.

As a private park it could work well.

No doubt I will follow up on this venue since it is in the same general area. I'm now hearing that the planned closings of the state facilities may not occur due to some additional funding becoming available. Those of you living in Illinois might keep us up as to what is going on. We still have some time before we make any commitments.

Here is another link to a local story. http://www.pantagraph.com/articles/2...f511108617.txt

Moraine View 2009 Rally in Jeopardy

Greetings Jack!

According to a report on our local television station out of Harrisburg, IL, the legislature approved funding to keep the state park facilities open -- but the governor has indicated that he will not support the move.

I re-checked the station's website, and the story has been posted. It can be referenced at:

I can't tell if it's closed or not. No news if it did actually close, but upon calling, still get their machine. I am going to call them this AM when their outgoing message says someone is suppose to be there.

Spoke with Mary at Moraine View just a few minutes ago.

As of this post, Moraine View is currently scheduled to shutdown on November 30th. I have heard that the reps found the money, but our boneheaded governor has said he will not sign the bill, moreover I've read the funding the reps gave numbnuts he took and put toward other things.

I'm sure this won't be the last post or the last bit of info. I can only say that there has been such a public backlash to the moron's decisions and associates he keeps with that I am not sure this will be the last word on any State Park closings.....

Update on Moraine View Funding

From Bloomington's newspaper, the Pantagraph:

Gov. Rod Blagojevich signaled Thursday that he may not close a dozen state parks later this month, but a similar number of historic sites remain on track to shut their doors Nov. 30

more details in link below .... still hard to say
