We did not like the bike trail. It is not paved, only gravel. some sections of it were hard to pedal on because they were soft. Roger found it easier than I did since he still has the mountain bike with the bigger tires. My tires are thinner and I was not happy.

There is a very nice bicycle trail that runs along/through portions of the Shawnee National Forest that includes passing by some beautiful Bald Cypress trees. The trail head is in Vienna, IL on Illinois Highway 146 approximately 3 miles West of the I-24/IL-146 interchange. The trail was build along the roadbed of an abondoned rail line. Friends who have ridden the trail have said that it is paved over the vast majority of its distance -- and it must be as they periodically close the trail to allow motorized vehicles to take senior citizens on a tour of the trail. For those considering a trip to Murphysboro to take in either the Atomic House or the Seventeenth Street Bar and Grill, Vienna is about 37 miles to the South/Southeast. The trailhead is located in the park that surrounds the Vienna Chamber of Commerce (the park has lovely picnic facilities).

Is that the Tunnel Hill trail Kevin? We have heard of it and someday are going to ride it. We will not be bringing bikes this time since we are only going for the one night and there won't be time after touring trailers and stuffing ourselves with food.

We only rode the Rend lake trail from the campground to the resort and took the road back to the campground. The motorists were honking at us, probably thinking we were too dumb to find the bike trail!

Yes, that is the Tunnel Hill Trail. The park is a very popular picnic destination in this area. There are two historic buildings on site -- one of which is the old Railroad Depot. IL-146 crosses the trail, and I am through there at least three times every week. The closest camping would be Ferne Clyffe State Park (Goreville), or Giant City State Park (Makanda).

Okay, here's a post to keep Steve off my back! I have not had time to have read all of the preceding posts, but we're really looking forward to another awesome Medic rally! We're bringing the moho, and it will be open for the tours, for those of you who have not seen inside one (or have and just want to again!). And Steve, LOVE the pic of Paige and Collin! That one's going on the fridge.

Whoops--my above comment wasn't meant the way it sounded! I was poking fun at Steve, who was asking me to contribute to the rally discussion. No offense implied or meant!!!

Yeah Yeah Yeah...I was not. Just poking fun at you on Face Book that you were posting there but not here. It seemed to do the trick!

I see Susan found her wine cellar. Want some cheese with it?

Bree or Gorgonzola?

My Prozac puppy found her inner dog-child on the Shenandoah river a couple of weeks ago. She is messing with the minds of about a dozen butterflies clustered on the ground.

Wow, this rally is less than 3 weeks away. Time flies when you're Airstreaming. Can't wait to see y'all again, and meet new friends.

I'm up for walking the dogs, BBQ (yes, even vegetarians can appreciate one), Dutch oven cooking, or anything else.
