Would anyone mind a day-tripper who comes but leaves their A/S at home?

We had planned to attend for the weekend until we checked the schedule and were thwarted by a must-attend local all-day function on Saturday. We'd love to come out on Sunday to meet everyone and just pretend like I really booked my sites too...

I figure that if we slink from site to site quickly enough, the rangers won't know that we really don't belong there!

S'pose I could fool anyone into believing that I towed an A/S with my wife's Honda Civic?

Anything you can do to participate is all good in my book. This is going to be a pretty informal rally.

My main motivation for going is simply being able to meet a bunch of you fine folks I've been talking with these last few months.

Camper/tent optional (unless you are spending the night).

Smile Hey...are any spots still available?

Hey, I would like to know if any spots are available.

We went camping (Paul Wolfe Campground, Elgin, IL) for the first time last weekend, and are going again this weekend (Shabbona Lake Recreational Area) to shake out some more issues before traveling too far... Getting ready for a longer trip in July...but would like to rally in June!

Thanks for any feedback. I am sending this reply so I can find this thread easily (since I am not home right now and cannot research the good links included until I do get home.)

Phil & Sue,
Check the first post in this thread. You will get the links to get to the park website. Give them a ring to check what's available. Be sure you tell them you are with the Airstream group. If you reserve, be sure to also note that on the registration form.

Hope to see you there!

Regards,

Jack

Thumbs up Reservation Form Printed... Planning Yes!

Now that I printed the form and read all the posts (couldn't yesterday because I wasn't home), I have printed the PDF for the reservation. I also printed out the first message (cut and paste actually).

Hey, no water hookup? I don't have a fresh water tank...no grey water tank, and no (working) valve on the black water tank. I guess I'll just have to consider this a "tent on wheels". Of course, I have a refrigerator, lights, fans and beds which most tents don't!

Looking forward to seeing more A/S. Sue and I are tearing up and rebuilding much of the past decorating, and haven't finished anything yet...Maybe the couch will be recovered by then...I don't think I'll have time to replace the flooring...

See you then, I hope...

I don't believe it does. I think there is just a lake, but I am unsure if there is swimming.

Cool reservation Sent in with No Reservations...

My reservation (I guess technically it's a request for reservation...) is in the big blue box by the drugstore! Post office mail box, that is.

Sue and I are going to try to spend some quality time with the interior, and I need some exterior time too. I am hoping to rivet some loose belly skins back on, and she wants a new floor covering (and repair soft spots), all new paint throughout, new window treatments and re-covering the couch.

We're planning to go camping this weekend at Shabbona Lake State Park (Illinois) Fri and Sat nights. Will learn more about what we need to allow us to "get away" without killing ourselves working to leave with the stuff packed, not forgetting anything, etc...

See you'se guys in June!

Phil & Sue,

You will get a confirmation back by mail. Let us know what site they give you. I'm keeping track at this point.

Sorry there is no water hookup at each site. Hopefully our site will be near one of the various outlets in the campground. I was thinking we could string together some hoses for refill purposes in case any fresh water tanks go dry. Hope to see you there.

Regards,

Jack

Here is a quote from the web site for the park.

The Black Locust picnic area includes a public, sandy beach where swimming is permitted from Memorial Day to Labor Day. No alcohol or pets are allowed on the beach, and swimmers are to remain in the buoyed area. There are no lifeguards. Enjoy yourself, but please be careful

Since we addressed the topic of swimming I also checked boating and fishing. Here's some additional info.

Fishing
The lake is regularly stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, bullhead, crappie, channel catfish, walleye, yellow perch and northern pike. Whether from the five miles of shoreline or off the handicapped-accessible fishing pier, the angling is always good.

Boating
Drifting and bobbing on the glittering expanse of Dawson Lake is one of the site's most popular activities, whether aboard a sailboat or in a motorcraft of 10 horsepower or less. There is a two-lane launching ramp and docking facility and boat rentals are available at the concession stand.

We are three weeks away so you will need to make sure you get your reservation in. For those of you who will need to wait close to the actual date, my advice would be to call the park to check on the availability of sites. Their number is 309-724-8032.

Hope to see you there!

Regards,

Jack

Activities

Just a note that we plan this rally to be pretty relaxed with no WBCCI style adjenda of activities. Airstreamforums owner Andy is trying to supply us with some giveaways for attendance prizes so stayed tuned for further information on that topic.

My wife was kicking around the idea of having a pot luck for Saturday night. For those of you coming at this point, are you interested or would you rather we try to get together for dinner Saturday night, but everyone just fix food for themselves?

Jack

Eric...

A potluck is where everyone makes a dish and brings it to the feed. You get to eat a little of everything, and it's usually excellent food.

I would like to remind you that it does NOT have anything to do with a Toga! BTW, is yours cleaned and pressed? You only have three weeks left!

I hear you, but it's "suppose" to be a dry campground.

Too bad you can't make it. I think it is going to be really fun.

I'll bring the chocolate milk, grill and charcoal, if you bring the brats....

Midwest Rally Announcement

A potluck is always a welcome activity for me. Will make sure to pack the fixings for bonfire baked beans as well as the ice cream freezer - - will "play it by ear" as to which to make once at the Rally.

With any kind of luck, the Airstream and the Cadillac willl both be ready by June 2. A short shakedown cruise to near Dodgeville, WI is in the works for next weekend if my doctor releases me to drive more than just towork and back - - managed to contract pinkeye at the school where I teach (evidently it is running rampant in our school this spring).

After a week of final exams and several days of working on the committee writing annual reports for our schools annual Improvement Plan; I will be ready for the Rally.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Kevin
