Metro-Detroit Rally vote!

There are two campgrounds to choose from.

Totem Pole Campground, Petersburg, MI.
This is as close to US-23 without being right on US-23.
http://www.totempolepark.com/camping.htm

Here is what Totem Pole Park can offer:
Cost: $29/night per family
Group sites but not completely guaranteed
All with 30 amp electric. No 50 amp available
Most sites with water.
No pavilion that we can use without additional cost.
Swimming beach
Fishing
Playground
Cabela's Outdoor World nearby, (25 miles)

Covenant Hills RV Campground, Otisville, MI.
http://www.covenanthills.org/rv/

Here is what Covenant Hills can offer:
Cost: $25/night per family
Group sites guaranteed. We will be given a block of sites to choose from. You pick the site you want on a first come first served forum member preference.
Full hook-ups at ALL sites guaranteed. Water/Elec/Sewer
Free use of their new adjoining pavilion at NO EXTRA CHARGE.
Swimming, boating, fishing. nature center, trails, horseback riding
Planned activities for children
2 playgrounds
Close to Frankenmuth, MI. (Bronner's, Zehnder's, etc...)

I do not want to sway popular opinion as I will go anywhere. I do like the pavilion feature of Covenant Hills. I also have a personal recommendation from a co-worker that frequents Convenant Hills every year. It is a nice quiet park that has plenty of space between sites. Most of the sites are wooded. All of the sites are full hook-ups. He and his family don't go anywhere else with there SOB trailer. I am trying to convince him to get an Argosy, (he is almost swayed).
Check out the websites and cast your votes based upon the information I got and what you see on the websites.

Thumbs up

Hey Lou

Good leg work. Both places look really nice. Totem is much closer to us but Covenent seems like the better place to me...so it's a toss up. I voted that either will do.

Are you narrowing down a date yet?

Thanks!

Steve

The dates are August 26th-28th. If anyone would like to caravan let me know.
Also, Covenant Hills has 50 amp service at the sites.

Date has been set for the weekend before Labor Day, August 26-28 per Lou's post on the other thread. Here is the post:

"Ok folks.
I have called around and have come up with two very good choices. One is to the north and one is to the south.
First of all, the dates are now set for August 26th-August 28th. I will post a new thread after I confer with Jim Mickle about the choices. I have called about twenty parks and the two I have picked are pretty good.
First of all, I want to see how many are willing to go with those dates set for the rally.
Jim Mickle and I met and we discussed it and those dates seem to be the best.
We will also have signs for the front of everyone's Airstream/Argosy. Something to stick out in the yard near your unit.
I also would like to do a "map" of where everyone is parked. One of the parks will allow us the use their covered pavilion FREE of charge.
Please, if you have not voted on this poll do so now. I will be posting the voting for the two choices tonight.

We're there!

Covenant looks pretty cooool! The high ropes course looks like fun!! I like the full hook-ups and use of pavilion too. Sign us up, we are a definite. Brad, me and Baron the wonder dog. Anyone for horseback riding? I never did kayaking, do you have to turn upside down! :-0 Regardless of the activities it will be a treat to meet you all. We are psyched!

Voted for "Either one will work for me!", but we're still only "maybe's". There's a lot going on for us at that time of year. 'Til then we'll just keep watching this thread. Good Luck and hope we can make it.

It looks like things are shaping up!
So far there are seven of us. I have PM'ed everyone that had posted on my previous thread.
I am also hoping that some from the Metro-Detroit WBCCI Unit will attend as well.

I am thinking of having us all do a potluck dinner on Saturday at the rally.
Something like a random draw for who brings what.
What do you think?

Pot Lucks don't have to be organized. Have never been to one that I went a way hungry. Let everyone bring what they want, and you will have great variety and great food as people will bring what they do well.

I like that idea of a random drawing and I will tell you why...LOL...I for one don't really have any 'signature" dishes so this randomizing may equal the board sort of speak and become a challenge to all. If not I am thinking hash brown cassorole or an appetizer or two. Maybe draw lots, short straw gets to "sample" my culinary offering...

Or maybe I can bring the 5# Hershey bar my daughter just gave us. Anyone have a marshmallow that big for s'mores?

I like the idea of, at least, knowing what people are bringing, (main dish, side dish, dessert, etc..).
If we have 25 or 30 at the rally then a bring whatever you want approach is fine. Right now, we are talking 8 of us. It is very possible that we could end up with 8 main dishes, etc...
Carol is taken care of, she has dessert! Five pound Hershey bar? HOLY COW!
Just let everyone know what you are bringing then. That would be great!

Belly up to the Bar Boys :)

But I want to "sweeten the pot" with more than that.

Rivet Eats and Sweets

Since we're rolling on this... count us in for an appetizer. I'll volunteer my wife's famous olive nut spread with veggies and crackers, and probably some graham crackers and marshmellows too

How soon do we hope to confirm the campground and start reserving sites?

This would be my first rally

Steve

I am bringing a Smokin' Lou's specialty!

Well, I like this better than a random drawing of sorts!
I will bring my smoker and three or four brined chickens! I will start the smoker Friday night or really early Saturday morning. Come dinnertime Saturday you will all be drooling from the smell!

Steve,
I will close the poll on May 6th to allow everyone to vote that wants to vote. I am hoping to get some from the Metro-Detroit WBCCI to join us.
Right now it is looking like the majority do not care where it is held. Maybe we chould just do it in my backyard!
