We have a local liquor store (Tiffany's) that offers a tasting a couple time a year, scotch, bourbon and wine. Last night they had small batch Jim Beam products, Basil Hayden, Knob Creek, Baker and Bookers. We keep a bottle of Basil Hayden and Bookers at home all the time. The Baker was real good, I'll have to purchase a bottle of that soon. Knob Creek was good also, actually real smooth for a 100 proof bourbon. They also had a new rye bourbon but do not remember if it was produced by Jim Beam or not. The label just had a big "R" and a small "i" on it. Did not care for that one, as I am not fond of bourbons with a high rye content, such as Buffalo Trace, Ri, Jim Beam Rye, etc. Only draw back to last night was the guy from Jim Beam that was supposed to host the event became ill and could not make it, so two guys from a Detroit liquor distributor were the hosts. They pretty much reading right from the Jim Beam supplied place-mats, did not learn anything new. I should have stepped up to share my bourbon knowledge.

you might want to get on some bourbon mailing lists, Makers Mark had a tasting earlier this year near South Bend, IN. We were not able to attend that one.

I didn't hear you mention Winford Reserve. I spent several thousand dollars
sending my son to the University of Kentucky. His main objective was to report back to me what the best bourbon in the state was (oh, and get an education). He reported back that Winford Reserve was the one.

Did I waste all that money for nothing?

Hi Sky, I think you mean Woodford Reserve. I have a bottle of that in my collection all of the time also, it's one I bring out for people who do not drink bourbon but want to give it a try. This past winter a friend of mine gave me a bottle of Russell's Reserve (10 yr old small batch), that one is also good for a novice bourbon taster. So far out of my collection, my favorite is Elijah Craig 18 yr produced by Heaven Hill Distillers.

Don't what to long to make a decision or you'll miss it. I could be persuaded to bring along Elijah. Typically Makers or Basil Hayden are left on board.

Hi Airboss, Renee and I worked on Felix all weekend (again) but now he is ready for camping, most all of the interior is installed, power works, water works. Can not wait for our four days in Traverse City this coming weekend, have continued fun in Madison and post some pictures!!!

So, I am contemplating joining ya'll for this Metro-Detroit thing that those around us are all talking about. My question is, is there a good place close by there where one can do a little kayakin' and or fishin'?

The Cabela's Store is just a couple of exits south in Dundee. It is a great place to replenish supplies for both!

Hehe, just don't tell my boss! Considering I work for Cabela's competition. Just trying to figure out if its worth bringing our two kayaks and getting MI fishing licenses.

You will be busy with the progressive cocktail party/trailer tour to go fishin. The weekend was pretty busy last year, that having fun is hard work. Don't worry though, Dave will watch for signs of dehydration. He was a great hydration manager last year.

Just a note to invite you to an "adult" weekend Here in Indiana. Now don't get me wrong I love kids ( even mine) but camping is a whole different experience without them! We are going to be @ http://www.tradingpostcanoe.com/camping.cfm the weekend of July 10-12. We are also looking to do some canoeing this weekend. So if you want to join in just call the campground and lets go. Mike
