How far do we want to go? We have a firefighter friend that owns Campers Cove near Alpena and would give us a good deal.
I am not opposed to going to Alpena.
A friend who owns a campground? That sounds almost too good to be true!
Can you get any specifics on it?

...the City of Alpena overlooks Lake Huron's picturesque Thunder Bay. That sounds beautiful. I bet August would be a great time of year to be there.

A waterfront site with sanua and pool I would think we would have left Hell Michigan and gone to Heaven. Grownups like to play too. That's definitely on Brads and my list! Thanks for the link Buck.

Can we puleeze, can we can we?

Buck!
That place looks WONDERFUL!
I want a lakefront site!
I would go up there for an entire week of camping, let alone a weekend rally!
Let's see what the rest of the "clan" has to say about it.
Come on everyone.... Take a look at the link and see what all of you think.
If we do not do it for a rally location then we should at least think about it for a longer excursion!

I talked it over with Candie late last night and she agrees; it would be wonderful.
If it would be a rally location then I would quite possibly head up there the weekend before and spend an entire week there.
I have never camped in that part of Michigan before and it looks like I have been really missing out.

I'll in for staying longer too. Long as we're hooked up and away might as well stay and have time to relax.

Alpena

I think we're in, depending on the date. Sounds like a nice place, but I'm not going going to scout the campground.

10 Top Reasons Why Harold will not Scout Out the Campgrounds:

1. He doesn't want to spoil the surprise.
2. He misplaced his personal GPS when Leanne tossed it into her purse thinking it was the new cell phone.
3. He's leading another scouting party to the Yukon.
4. He's stuck in the basement when the self inflatable boat pinned him to the wall
5. Truck's in the shop
6. The campground is currently under seige for spring break
7. He's working day and night on the Airstream
8. He's looking for another hat
9. He is on tour with the stars

Number one reason

10. He's busy making individual drink ice cube sculptures for Ralph's "recipe"

I am thinking we need a few more to weigh in as to whether Alpena is a go.
I will start a poll tomorrow evening and we can have it close in 3 or 5 days to see what kind of a response we get.
I think it would be REALLY cool!

Lou, I am so sorry to report that I can't really say if Lorrie and I are even going to be able to make your rally this year. I'd like to, but the schedule's getting kind of full already and I promised we would spend more weekends at home this year. Alpena is too far for us for a weekend rally and I don't think we have the vacation time to commit to making it a longer trip. So discount our vote as our decision to attend may not be based upon location at all, but while the campground looks nice, it is too far for us this year, should we decide we could attend your rally.

P.S. Now next year may be a different situation if the WBCCI SOB MH proposal passes - we might just have more free weekends next year.

Alpena

If the dates do not conflict with other trips we will need to be making we will be there. Unforunately we do not know yet just when the trip west will occur.

What if we put up a mileage chart for all the different campgrounds and we need to pick a starting point? Can we have a map of where we all live on it? I know it's further but driving time may be faster going away from the bigger cities and longer towards them.

Waterford to Alpena MI is 3 hours 39 minutes 200 miles

Waterford to Toledo OH is 1 hours 34 minutes 83 miles

Waterford is a good starting point.
I do like Alpena but I think it may be getting away from the original reason I wanted to do a rally here in the first place; stay near the Metro-Detroit area.
I would consider any good park, as long as it meets the original requirements:
1. Be able to hold all of us within the same area of the park.
2. Be within 2 to 2.5 hours from the heart of Detroit.

I do not want to see anyone have to drop out due to the long distance it would take to get to the rally.
I am planning on making a week-long trip up to Alpena now that I have seen the campground that Buck's friend owns. This does not have to be the rally location. Having all of you there is more important to me than WHERE the rally is located.

We still need to hear from all of those who are interested in attending as well.

Alpena

I have no problem going to Alpena or anywhere else. Our trailer is currently located about 20min south of Alpena at Lost Lake Woods club and we go there as often as possible, heck we are heading up this weekend for a quick and cold camping fix.

However I also agree with Lou that the locations is getting away from the basic theme of Metro Detroit Rally. I feel we should keep it in the one to two hour range for travel. We are trageting a working class audiance and leaving Friday after work and fighiting traffic for three or four hours would really cut into social setup time friday evening.
